  • Weis and Hickman didn't like it but Lord Soth was able to go against Strahd to an extent and they were from different series. It'll never happen of course, but isn't that the fun thing about debating? Before Marvel and DC did their crossovers, it would be common fun for kids to debate Superman battling the Hulk or such.

  • elminster would win against raistlin if it was just eliminster vs what raistlin could have become before the timeline got changed then raistlin would have won ...a god killer beats a near god

  • I agree with your opinion and on top of that, Raistlin is IMO the only D&D wizard that escaped the horrible trap of being a Gandalf knock off. That being said..when is a big studio gonna realize Chronicles would be an awesome trilogy? anyways thumbs up

  • I gotta go with raistlin while I ignore anyone talking about harry potter and twilight.

  • Raistlin hands down.

  • @TheBaconlaser Just stop, seriously stop. You must be just trolling.

  • @TheBaconlaser I like Harry Potter...not as much as other works of fantasy but I am a fan...Twilight on the other hand I wouldn't call fantasy so much as the shit that the author of it took on the world and it just kept coming...she must eat a lot of cherries or something...not sure, but it's like cherries, a pretty idea until it came out...I mean who thought anyone could fuck up the already fucked up genre of vampire romance.

  • @TheBaconlaser Harry Potter and Twilight is for little girls. D&D is classic.

  • @TheBaconlaser Harry Potter is nowhere near as awesome as Raistlin or even Elminster, still I like Harry Potter, but they arnt playing in the same league.

@defectiveillusions Sometimes I thought it was hard to hear what you said because of the music... but here is how I reason... Elminster, has one god-pal, a cool beard and a history of being transexual. Sure he got some kickass spells, but Raistlin on the other hand... Raistlin's got a Dragon, an army of undead servants...

  • @TenguHitori Raistlin also has 2,5 gods helping him out... and a pet kender :D Like... WTF... of course he will win :O But still... in their own worlds, they are demigod of pure asswhoop, both of them... Raistlin, just abit more :)

  • What is the song background, please?

  • @Roks17 Oooh I don't even know anymore, I think I just googled free to use music or something.

  • @defectiveillusions

And if we are just talking Forgotten Realms/DragonLance, Karsus of Netheril would easily bring both of them down, as he was the most powerful mage that ever lived and acually did acheive Godhood, if only for a short time. He is the main antagonist of the third book of the Netheril Trilogy by Clayton Emery if you want to learn more about him.

  • @defectiveillusions

Now I think that we are looking at the wrong thing here, as Azoth (later Kylar Stern) of The Night Angel Trilogy could take on both of them at once, even when he isn't in the Night Angel form. And if you have read them, don't say it is because of his Ka'Kari, it is because the Ka'Kari allows him full access to his Glore Vyrden.

  • Elminster escapes from the Nine Hells, though it was with the help of the Simbul. However, he does almost completely extermininate the 9th Hell (Nessus), when he gains his power after closing a hell gate. Plus Elminster got some from Mystral.

  • @PAPAKEVINONADOLPHIN I have seriously ceased to care about this subject, but based on gaming terms the hells and the devils there are piddly compared to fighting gods. Just a gods avatar is at least CR 40, where as a devil at maximum is going to hit CR 30. As to Mystra, well I've heard that argument at least a million times, but seeing as Raistlin has the power to kill gods should he wish, I can't say shes particularly worrisome.

  • Your music is too loud - tricky to hear what you're actually saying.

  • Darshe Schneider from Bastard series would turn them both to ashe.

  • Raistlin's rise to power was a lot more interesting and captivating to watch. Everything he did was for himself, while this made him selfish this also made some of us like the guy as i would have done the same where i in his position. because of the the guy actually became so powerful and smart enough to trick and beat Gods and was still smart enough to stop himself . Elminster on the other hand is a guy living what i would say a perfect life without much downs and lows.

  • How about Elminster vs Dumbledore.

  • Besides - Arakor Nicodemus all the way!

  • Yes, but you could sit down with Elminster and smoke a big pipe of weed... AND he could tell you some stories about what gets goddesses off in bed and such... WAY more interesting. Raistlin would cough up his guts after one toke and then whine about how it is his curse and how much he has suffered for his art, etc. As for stories, well, AFAIK he was a virgin till the day he died!

  • oh ya cool vids btw

  • Gah I was just thinking about reading the elminster books, ive been curious about them for a long time and was considering reading them before i start Gauntylgrym but now im not sure if i should read about raistlin first lol. Is Raistlin set in the forgotten realms setting or is something else like Eberon?

  • @garabrants Raistlin is set in Dragonlance. Elminster is Forgotten Realms.

  • Elminster is a big wet pussy Raistlin would hike Elminsters robes up and bend him over in a heartbeat.

  • Elminster is such a Mary Sue. :P Sure, Raistlin is kind of the emo kid of the fantasy wizards, but he was also a total badass while also being utterly tragic--who would want to be Raistlin with all the issues that were heaped upon him? Frickin' Tower wizards...:P

  • elminster is the greatest andmightyst mage of all acc to the stats

  • NAAAAHHH... Fizban kicks them both in their asses! :P Who could be the most greatest wizard if not the one who really is a GOD! x)

  • @Orklord90 I will definitely give you that. Gods do tend to kick mortals asses...at one point Raistlin could have beat him...but in the long run it would've sucked for him.

  • @Orklord90 Fizban doesn't count in the fight he IS a GOD

  • Comparing the two must go beyond stats. They would never just meet in a hell in the cell to do battle. It would start as a chess game that would last for years until someone got that tiny little advantage they needed. Raistlin defeated Bitchandantilus thanks to sleight of hand and his brains, not because of his power. There are intangibles to consider.

  • I agree that Raistlin is cooler, but maybe that's because the darker hero is more appealing in this day and age. I got my hands on Elminster in Hell the other day, and seeing him give his all to protect Faerun gave him a few points in my eyes. If the two were to fight, it would probably be because Raistlin is trying to do something evil with magic, and Elminster wants to stop him, right? If so, it probably comes down to who would be willing to give their all in the fight--even if it means death.

  • Just let you know I never took offense at all =). I dont down you for your opinions (other than your pro-murder/cannibal stance...cant get on board with ya there lol). As far as Dragon states; of course they would not take sides on an issue like that. They own both characters, both worlds, and also answer to both creators. Officially they would HAVE to take that stance. If you played your whole life, and know the rules, try a duel. Get 2 friends, one to judge, you and the other play, post it.

  • @Khurzan72 XD I would try this, but my friends are total munchkins so uhm yeah. As to the pro-murder/cannibal video, that was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of our society. Not saying that I'm pro-murder/cannibal. In fact I'd rather avoid it on account of that sounds like I'd get killed since I'm not particularly strong.

  • I'm guessing you know nothing of the game statistics that they originate from (D&D). If you knew the character statistics between the 2 you would have no doubt that Elminster would own Raistlin. While Raist almost became a god, Elminster carries a partial power of the goddess of magic on top of the crazy power he already has. And is damn near immortal as well. As far as novels go Raist is more interesting...if rather cold and selfish.

  • As I've mentioned several times in the comics I've been playing D&D my whole life, (my parents play). The official verdict of Dragon magazine (the last issue before the painful 4th edition came out (thank god for Pathfinder)) was that either Raistlin or Elminster could win, and that you simply cannot say for sure. So there you go.

  • @defectiveillusions Raistlin is a whiny little emofag bitch, Elminster would tear him apart while cracking jokes...oh, Raistlin almost became a god? Elminster literally fucks his god, Mystra...that makes him the fucking MAN

  • @ifurstupidenuf2fukme I say becoming a God trumps banging one, but that was hilarious.

  • I had no inclination towards one or the other before watching this, but now I am going with Elminster for the simple fact that anyone who can't spell "views" should not be taken seriously on any level

  • @joscarpetz11 Thank you for pointing out the typo, which I will fix, but being human, I'm afraid I'm not perfect. If you are well that is quite impressive and bravo, but perhaps an intelligent individual like yourself would realize that sometime people make typos and that every mistake is not evidence of idiocy. But I suppose I'm asking for reason of hecklers on you tube and I suppose that really that is simply too much to ask.

  • @defectiveillusions A very well put and articulate rebuttal. I am humbled. I guess that will teach me to attempt "smooth and snarky"

  • Essentially, your argument seems to be that Raistlin would win over Elminster because you think Elminster is lame, which is the kind of argument I'd expect from a 12-year old who had read Spellfire and the original DragonLance trilogy and formed their opinions on the spot.

  • Ok, as far as I can tell, you're not coming from the point of view of someone who doesn't like Elminster, you're coming from the point of view of someone who doesn't know, much less understand Elminster. Sure, he's kind of an old lech, but what, wizards aren't allowed to have fun over the course of eternity? And he doesn't take his power lightly. He takes lightly those who do not and cannot ever understand possessing that level of power. I'd say more, but not entirely sure where to start.

  • Even if you're going with the idea that Mystra would side with Elminster, Raistlin would still win. He battled the gods of Krynn and won. Also, you need to consider that he is two archmagi in one body, Fistandantilus and Raistlin Majere.

And to correct you, it wasn't a mishap that led to Raistlin not becoming a god. It was that he DECIDED not to because of his love for his brother.

Finally, can you remix this without the music? I can barely hear what you're saying.

  • @Conchaga I never said that Raistlin decided it for the love of his brother, he decided it because he looked into his brothers mind and saw his own miserable future.

As to the music, I wish, but unfortunately I cannot.

  • Elminster is a chosen..nuff said.

  • I couldn't agree more. Raistlin FTW!

  • Wow, your a good looking girl AND you throw dice? Very extraplanear indeed.

The battle would boil down to who had the best contingency spells in play, should one fall and dont try to tell me neither one would have any set in place.

  • Thank you very much for the compliment. Yes, I love D&D, I'm DMing two games a week, and playing in two right now. XD At anyrate, thanks for commenting.

  • do you have any room for dming an online campaign?

gah nvm i prolly know the answer which is a negative one

if not fell free to answer!

  • Forgotten Realm is ruled by D&D rules, seeing as those are the guidelines, and being a D&D player, I can assure you that Mystra is highly unlikely to do anything of the sort, the gods avoid fighting mortals, unless the mortal seeks out such a battle, it is shown time and time again in storys and so forth. An action like that could create a god battle, which after the first one the gods tend to...avoid such actions. Therefore Mystra is a silly point to pull. Not to mention a cheap & pathetic win.

  • And I understand, I feel just as passionately about Raistlin, and on top of this I have never been fond of Elminster as I view him very much as a lecherous old fool who irritates me immensely. Mostly I believe because since a very young age, (around 6 actually after reading the Hobbit) I have wanted and dreamed of being a wizard, the fact that he takes such magnificent power so lightly is...irksome. But I do understand that many others like him, and I understand, as I have characters I love.

  • I have read Spellfire actually. When it comes to Mystra, here is my points, Raistlin could have and did in one future kill the gods of Kyrnn, so I'm not sure why one god is going to help, another point is the Kyrnn has it's own Magic gods, three of them in total, and finally Raistlin is evil, and Raistlin does not leave smoking ruins except when he was a god, and there was a reason for that, he is evil and serious yes, but that does not erase the wisdom of knowing when to use your power.

  • wow im pretty sure that elminister would own raistlien in a battle no madder what dude elminster the goddess of magics bf shes his bitch!!! i mean comeon dude elmenist has thrown comets not fireballs comets raistlen...ya not so much point is emlinister would liek totaly destroy raistlen it wouldnt even be considered a fight cuz he would probly jsut fireball him and toast him so ya srry your out of luck raistlen

  • One thing is. Raistlin would do ANYTHING to destroy Elminster. If he were really compelled to destroy Elminster that is. Who knows, a rift in the planes could erupt and they could throw Raistlin and Elminster in a battle royal. Elminster is lawfull good, I am assuming? Raistlin would kill his own brother, Iam sure he would find a dirty trick and kill Elminster.

  • (And to continue my mega post!) I was raised on Elminster and Drizzt, by a father who started playing during the time of Elminster and Drizzt, so I'm probably biased. I could switch to 3rd or 3.5 if I got to play the damned game anymore, seeing as I play tons of KotOR and Neverwinter Nights >.>, but everyone I know that plays the D&D anymore is either from the tubes of the internet, or I never see. Oh, one last thing: Only played/read Forgotten Realms, no Dragonlance yet. Big differences?

  • XD Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, generally speaking I don't play D&D in either one - we make our own rules, uhm playing with Dragonlance characters is interesting due to new races like the kender to play and also new or at least varient classes. The books are a different style of writting all together if you ask me.

  • As to the Forgotten Realms, I too read them at a young age about 10 or 11 probably due to likewise my father and somewhat my mother - both of whom play D&D. I didn't read Dragonlance until I was about 14ish - when I read Dragonlance I found I much perferred it to Forgotten Realms. But when it comes down to it, it's all personal opinion. I also was quite obbsessed with the Darksword series - but that's a whole other story entirely.

  • Well coincidentally, and likely with a heavy dose of Tymora's grace- :P - I'm 14 myself. I suppose it's time to pick up Dragonlance books and 3.5 and see what happens?

And on another note, finished Making of a Mage. I loved it, actually, but I'm probably biased: Seeing as I've never written enough to get the hang of fancy words and sentences to be used as most use them, most of my stuff, be it a short story written for school or the hell of it, ends up in the same sorta style as Greenwood's.

  • You realize I really hate you now. ;)

  • Ack an Elminster fan, run and hide. :P

  • Bah, to hell with you! To hell with you I say! Almost became a god, bah. You say cool and I say eh, 'cause of that. But eh indeed, for opinion is an angry thing.

And Elminster is the Gandalf of the Forgotten Realms, so hah. I win. Totally. The teenage nerd with no life that still plays 2nd edition (everything afterward is heresy. Heresy I say! Non weapon proficiencies! One type of attack! All else is heresy!) wins it all. Yeah.

  • ...But Thaco - ew. 3.5 is waaaay better. 4th edition I admit is crap - but come on, I moved on you can too. XD

As to Raistlin vs. Elminster - prehaps I'd like Elminster better if not for the fact that as you mentioned, he's a rip-off of Gandalf, and for the the fact that Ed Greenwood is an incredibly dry author, I feel like I have to drag myself through every single on of his books.

Raistlin on the other had is well written, entrancing, and not a rip-off. Thus my preference. XD

  • I haven't read farther than the first few chapters of Making of a Mage, so I can't talk about Greenwood's writing, and I don't so much consider Elminster a rip off as the equivalent, but that's just me. Personally, I love the way he's portrayed in the Avatar Trilogy, which I'm finishing up for a second time now, and the few times you see him in Baldur's Gate (which I've dug from the heap of crap that his my house and popped in again. >.>)

  • The music in this video is too loud, makes it kind of hard to hear you speak in places.

  • Yeah in my more recent videos I just don't use music, it seems to work better.
