Some people can never be as good as they want with an instrument. fake-playing makes you feel good and as close as you can get to the 'real thing'. We all do it in all ages. Not just fake-playing an instrument, but also pretending to dance like a pro and sing like an angel. It takes nerve to show it off in public though, but if you find support, it feels magical. Everyone knows it isn't you doing anything, but they all understand and cheer you through. It is beautiful and heartwarming.
