The designer Lalique also desinged crystal ornaments that fetch for a hefty sum. i noticed the winged head in 3:25 looks like a Lalique. great VID TODD. loved it
@spazzzh20 shut tha fuck up you dumb scum jewish prick! This is a video about achitecture , not about war crimes!! Do you jump on VW vids, just because Hitler was the brain behind them?? you are a waste of space, please go and die quietly!
I visited the park where the lobby, reflecting pond and main entrance of the original Tokyo Imperial Hotel was relocated to. It was designed of course by Frank Lloyd Wright in the Art Deco style of which he was and still is an Icon. I agree with you about the beauty, style and elegance of the Art Deco style. To see it with an added Japanese touch is breathtaking. Since I`m in Japan right now, I will have to put this on my "to-do" list and try to visit there.
Very beautiful. and also very different from what I am used to seeing in Japan. It's a perfect mix of styles and not too over done. Also good to learn with some history thrown in. Best channel on the Tube! :P
Great video Tod. Love that part around 6:47 where you zoom to the window & the outside materialises, then fades out again as you zoom out. Very nice place, outside looked cool also. Nice using the environment framed pic Naoko took at the end there : )
@MicknFumi Thanks. Yea the auto iris..... got the timing just right and went with it. I actually was expecting that to happen not not sure how long it would take to react.
Hey I uploaded the vid I took at your place last January. I was going to respond to the vid you made. But I can't find the video response thing on this new YT setup lol
It's an interesting fact to know that the Japanese aristocracy and Royal Family have enjoyed and indulged themselves in these types of Western influences since LONG before the war. Not only were they the previliged few, but also they had a very discernible eye in art and architecture. During Meiji and Taisho periods, we saw an explosion of Western imports in the areas of art (including fashion and music) and literature.
The cherry blossoms look almost full bloom over there!
hey dude nice vid, its been a while without a new video, i hope everything its fine over there, the lights are incredible very detailed well thats the idea of the arc deco, nothing escapes from design, hope to see more house updates. my english its not that good lol.
Todd this is an excellent video. Art Nouveau is also one of my fav design motifs from the 20th century. THe Japanese now how to take a simple and elegent art form and make it more elegent and simple
I love the round Japanese window with the deco motif.
I was particularly impressed with how they managed to integrate Asian design elements with deco. The cylindrical fixture at 832 resembles modern ones I've seen at Cherry Tree Design.
Overall, an excellent video. (The music could be a little more upbeat...) This is great.
So, just wondering, is there any Art Nouveau in Japan?

That's really neat, its hard to believe this beauty was completed in 1933, and that it was a house!!
So pretty thanks for sharing on youtube! :)

Spotted the radiator in the bathroom. WTF? In Japan?
Love the curvy arched bits over some of the doorways. Don't know why.
Ultimate chill out video. Music worked.

@ElevenColors Yea that bathroom reminded me of the old Victorians in Boston.
