@madcapromanian By that reckoning though, then the engineer who got vaporized by the M-5 shouldn't have been in here since he wasn't security. Red means target, regardless of if one carries a phaser or a spanner. ;) And technically, Scotty did "die" from a zap by NOMAD, but he also got resurrected though.

Great video. Although, you did leave out the most memorable to many people 'Red Shirt' deaths -- although how to show it, might be a little difficult in video like this. Since the 1 I'm referring to is the only death of a crew woman in the original series. (Which wouldn't happen again until 20 years later in "Star Trek: The Next Generation").

The 1 I'm referring to is death of Yeoman Thompson in "By Any Other Name" episode where she is turned into block of dust & then crushed to death.

Kirk is in the gold, ensign Garrovick, the son of Kirk's former captain, is wearing red.

This episode, along with the episodes "The Apple," "The Changeling," "Mirror, Mirror," & "That Which Survives," had the highest body count. Each one had a minimum of at least 3 redshirts getting killed.

Scotty and Uhura survived because they were regular main cast members, as opposed to the security officers, who served mainly as plot points, with the possible exceptions of Mr. Kyle, Scotty's assistant transporter chief, and Mr. Leslie.

1) The ship wouldn't last long without it's Chief Engineer, and

2) Uhura's part of the bridge crew!

Although, in the episode Changeling, Scotty actually does die, even though he's brought back.

Yeah, we all know that the redshirts are doomed. What I sense while watching this video, however, is the way in which the wearing of a red shirt seems to drain the actor of any personality. For example, both Latimer and Gaetano were killed in Galileo 7, but they weren't redshirts, and there was something about their personalities that stuck. Maybe I'm imagining this, but I think there's some character-sapping forcefield in the red shirt which makes a man vulnerable to attack and death.

Yes it was. It was either from DS9 or TNG. I can't remember if it was a time travel or a holosuite/deck storyline. He was only 13 when the original Star Trek hit the air, so he was too young to be one of the original redshirters.
