By this season I stopped watching Matlock because something about Brynn Thayer iritates the crap out of me. I think she tried to hard or something....I liked the seasons with Charlene, and Michelle much more.
Love this series, but do have to say it was super sexist. Women had to be knock outs, but guys were usually very ordinary...judge, attorneys, Matlock himself had more wrinkles than they'd allow on a woman.
AND that double standard prevails today. Check it out.
@grandmagrumpy Then again you also have to think the prosecuter that was always most difficult for Ben was a women in my opinion that was damn cool how that was not sexist
If I have been a fond of "The Andy Griffith Show," so much --- I probably have loved "Matlock." The hot dogs Matlock ate, the cases where he won [each time at every trial], plus the humor he delivered with Ace Calhoun. In spite of Andy not getting along himself, just like Kene Holliday (who had drug problems), Nancy Stafford (who had a hot temper on the set) or Julie Sommars (who appears rarely) --- he gained popularity with his character, everywhere!
I preferred the Michelle Thomas/Conrad McMasters era --- they were both unique in their own personas. One of my favorite episodes of the Michelle Thomas era was "The DJ" --- in this episode, when her boyfriend [Arthur Saxon] was framed for killing Robby Moore, she asked her boss to defend him. He did that so reluctantly because he wasn't too fond for him. My favorite Conrad episode is [and there is a lot of them] is when he helped Angela Page tried to drill the hole to Sam Chandler's murder.
Brynn Thayer's role as Matlock's daughter LeAnn was great. She was more supportive in her than Linda Purl who played Matlock's other daughter Charlene.
Is it ever explained in the plot how Matlock can go through so many daughters like that? It is like a revolving daughter system! Don't get me wrong, I love the show.
Toward end of Season One she stopped appearing and they would always say she working on case in other city. At end of season 2 premiere Ben says she accepted a job in Philly and he has an opening which he offer to Michelle Thomas
I tell you, I preferred LInda Purl above anybody to follow her, and she did 18 out of 195 episodes. She was just so classy, and smart, professional, and wicked sexy. I saw her on BONES recently and that was cool but she is now in her mid 50's so as a 21 year old, it didn'tt have the same magic as Matlock reruns. lol. Good actress though. Sad she left
I know! I liked her the best too. The other ones have their own charm though. That is pretty cool! I found someone else close to my age who likes Matlock! I feel like a miracle has occured.
Michelle was pretty good. Thanks to reruns I knew her the most for a while. Ok so who's your favorite investigator? Tyler or Conrad? You can't say Cliff. I'll hurt you.
I like them both. It is a hard choice, but I will have to go with Tyler. He has a certain charisma that Conrad is lacking. Conrad strikes me more as a James Bond type of investigator than an actual one.- If that makes any sense. Don't get me wrong, I think Conrad is awesome, just not as realistic as Tyler.
Tyler was the best! Good man. One time a man accused Ben of jury tampering and Tyler goes up and threatens the guy calmly saying "not only am I in his employee, he is my friend". It was awesome. Oh and he toyed with a suspect once by driving up to question the guy in his impounded classic car. LOL
I have the jury tampering episode. Classic. I also liked it when Ben was investigating chefs who might have framed his client. He sends Tyler into bakery, where he has to be a taster, and ends up getting severe lethargy. Also when Tyler goes back into the Military to help Matlock investigate an on base murder, and gets busted for impersonating an officer, but it turns out that he was an officer, and outranks the person who was grilling him about it.
This was the last season of "Matlock" on NBC. The following year in 1992, "Matlock" would defect to ABC for its final three seasons. This updated Matlock theme also carried over to ABC as did Daniel Roebuck and Brynn Thayer stayed until '94, where she was replaced by Carol Huston. This was Clearance Gilyard Jr.'s last season w/ Matlock.

How many daughters did he have on this show? They seemed to change every season.
Mah81 1 year ago
@Mah81 He has two daughters - Charlene Matlock (who was only in the first season) and Leanne MacIntyre who did not appear until season 6.

This intro is from season 7, not season 6. This was the first season on ABC, as well as the first season to feature Leanne and Cliff.
In my opinion, it was also when the intro music changed for the worse.

Same here, and I never dared to miss a single episode for I've been a great fan of his. I'd say he was better that Perry Mason.

Thank You very much! I actually feel comforted by that. I was afraid she just disapeered without explanation. (I only have season 1 so far)

Oh that military one was great! Captain Tyler Hudson!!! And if you think about the time frame it would imply he was probably a Vietnam war vet

He was. In the "Sisters" episode, he completely knocks some crazy drunk over, and he says he was in Vietnam. I think he was a green beret.
