  • nice pinto i own a 73 myself i got it on here but its sweet

  • hooly crap I am amazed it didn't blow at 39 psi!

Sorry to hear that it caught fire, thats gotta be a real big piss off after spending so much time and effort. I hope you can revive it sooner or later!

  • have you touched the internals at all?

  • @holmd90

Everthing is stock. I had to swap a 79 Pinto oil pump so I could use the Pintos front sump oil pan.

  • @Glassssman nice, I see you did a fuel injection swap on it, what PSI are you running it at right now?

  • @holmd90 Strted with stock 39 psi then I turned it up to about 45 psi. Back in January I turned it up to over 50 psi and turned up the boost at the track. On the way home it sprung a leak and cuaght fire. I kept the hood shut and a heater hose and radiator hose burst putting the fire out before the fire dept. got there. I towed the car home and havent done anything to it since then. My video software isnt working or I would have a video of the fire posted.

  • @Glassssman what did u do to the bottom end to run that type of boost?

  • @beammark The most turbo boost I have run is 25 pounds. It has spiked to 30 before I ported the waste gate hole. The stock motor can handle those boost levels.

  • i need some info on this stuff. kinda curious on what it would cost to get one in the 12s? i was planning on pulling the old motor out of my truck i used to drag and rebuild to a 383. but i fast old 4cyl would have a cool factor to it. i just got a 73 pinto wagon a few weeks ago. great condition to looks like it might run. havent tried getting it started yet though. been too busy

  • @naracermcb1 go to the turboford website and peruse the forums, sooo much info there you could get lost in it for days...

    Power to the mighty 2.3t!!

  • @naracermcb1

Yep Like holmd90 posted, turboford has helped me out a lot. Sorry for the late reply.

  • I had a 76 Wagon when I was a kid, I bought a turbo system off a 80 Mustang, and never managed to finish the project.

I still have the system stored in the garage attic since 1984 LOL It sure took awhile for your lifters to pump up, and quiet down the lash on the bridges. I've got a 93 Ranger, I've been debating on doing this too.

  • I know that most 4 cyl pinto purists dont like the idea of putting a v8 in,but thats what im gonna do with mine.I aquired a 1967 289 engine out of a 67 cougar with 55000 miles on it.I just want to cruise around with a nice rumbly v8 in it,not race or raz the shit out of it.I got a 33000 mile 77 pinto runabout that i sold the original 4 cyl automatic out of to swap the 289 into.Cant wait to hit the streets with that baby.

  • @77pintoboy

I was going to put in a v8 at first. The more I learned about the turbo 2.3 the more I wanted to do that instead. Ive heard the v8 swap is easier to do.

  • Jeez that sounds pretty hefty for a 4 cyl,do all the turbo 4s sound like that?

  • most of them

  • my 79 sounded like a V8 lol, Not in the higher RPM's tho.

  • Turbos make an engine sound a lot deeper

  • Had a 71 with the 2000cc, mallory ign., MSD, re-jetted 32/36 weber, high lift cam, aluminum flywheel, headers, a 2.5 inch flowmaster and a Ford Falcon 8 inch rear. The car was a beast but you never heard a better sounding 4 banger. It really needed a 5 speed for top end though.

Have a Z3 now but I still miss my Pinto.

Btw...The Pinto engines were designed for Germany and my engine was actually made there.

  • CONGRATS!!!

    awesome vid!

  • Proud moments in the garage.Nothing better than the sweet sound of a newly installed motor to get the adrenaline going

  • You're an inspiration to us other people who are building our own turbo Pintos.

BTW, where is the battery hid?

  • Thank you.

I could'nt have done it without the help of the turbo Ford community.

The battery is in the spare tire well. I have a temporary battery in there right now. I'm going to box in the well to use as a battery box. The starter solenoid is in the passenger rear fender.
