Would one of the people criticizing this teachers method please guide me towards, what you believe to be, a better method. I'm not disagreeing (I don't really know). I am pretty math savvy but I don't know how to best convey introductory math to my 5 year old.

this is funny. the americans have left the traditional method of teaching math. with algorithsm and such. thats why they come up with these shitty methods. and there horrible math students show it.

very confusing way to teach and he should know that the first number should be 0 zero and not 1 one.

0 is not a counting number. 1,2,3,4,5,6,...etc is natural counting numbers.

I would say, after homeschooling for 3 years, that this method doesn't seem like a trick. This is moving children forward from counters to written numbers. I struggle with math, as does my daughter, and am glad I found some ideas to really reinforce the basics.
