there 1 of my fav. 2 listen 2 when i worked 3rd shift @ james river grafics n the early 1980's ! what a good tunes 2 wake up & motavate my crew! those wre GREAT SONGS! i,m so glad i found them Finally! hadn't heard them n 30 yrs. this was so HARD 2 FIND-THANK YOU!
caught these guys at mesa amphitheater in 85 they were the opener for simple minds great show except my friends wife got sick and they had to fly back home but we made her stick it out for the whole show
The Call has been one of my all time favorite bands since I discovered them back in the early 80's. I had a cassette of them...then when CD's came out, I bought their CD's....I love the band and Michael Been just had one of those voices that fit the music...he sang with feeling and emotion....he will be missed.....a true talent.
I first heard this song on the movie "Modern Women" in the begining... and then I heard it today on my SIrius radio.. it made me pause and think about this song and it clicked... lol awesome 80's sing... will always remember those times...
Michael Been passed away of an apparent heart attack on August 19,2010. He was at the Pukkelpop Music Festival in Hasselt, Belgium. We have his son and family in our prayers. The Call's music will always live on.

@dodgybizkit Oh no! I just happened to think of this song just now, for no apparent reason, I just thought, "I have to hear that," and this is the first I've learned of it. I'm sure sorry to hear this news. Rest in Peace, and rest assured you did wonderful things for the world, Michael Been.
I've heard "Everywhere I Go" a million times and it brings tears to my ears still. Rest in Peace Michael Been. He passed away on my birthday and will remember him every year that I remain alive.
@porterhead My parents discovered The Call around 1987. My dad told me they were playing backup for The Cure. That being said, I know they saw the Furs around that same time, so they could be getting the concerts mixed up.
Maybe not mixed up, but I definately saw them earlier than '87, as I wasn't living in NC anymore by that point and the only time I saw the Cure was in Germany in '86. Saw a metric ton of great '80s bands back in the 80s, so I might have seen the Furs on their own and the Call in a club the same month? It all gets hazy! My band in college actually covered "The Walls Came Down" as it was a radio song and we all really liked the first album. Very underrated band.
I could care less if the call had any religious leanings at all, they where a great band who colored my teenage years for the better. Thank you to them for their skill and craft.
@anovak66 The Call was a great rock band that was led by a Christian. Their music is much more real and relevant than most of the "Christian rock" that I have heard, and I have been following Christian music since Larry Norman in mid-70s. I used to be in the Christian music industry as a seller, and the Call remains one of my favorite bands of all time.
@anovak66 The Call was indeed made of Christian players writing and singing Christian-themed songs. They were not, however on a Christian label. Christian labels at that time wouldn't touch this style of music. But these guys were the original Roaring Lambs, as far as I'm concerned.
Well, I try to write about my own life experiences, and I'm a Christian myself, so I write from that point of view. Although it wouldn't be the type of Christianity commonly practiced these days. I believe it's a vain presumption to think that all people in the world should believe what I believe or that it would necessarily be right for them. I only know that it's right for me. I'm not interested in selling religion; Christianity or otherwise.
usually I'd prefer a ballpeen hammer to the forhead than listing to ANY Christian Rock...OWWWW...However, the Call offered a Amazingly different sound in the mid-80s. I'd go see them today(without bible or related stuff).
These guys may be "christian rock". but their so good ...... they make me a believer. It's really hard to argue with their sound or their lyrics. I think they really get it. They're better than all the popes put together.
@DarkAdaptedEyes I had always wondered if that wasn't the case. You can tell the meaning is more profound than the usual boy-girl cr@p- even w/o getting all the words. I had no idea these guys are Christian.
The first time (of four!) that I go to see the Call was when they opened for Psychedelic Furs in '87 - the Furs seemed so boring afterward, that I left about half an hour into their set. Another one of those great bands that never really achieved level of success they deserved.
So *that's* why he goes, "Lord, I need you..."!! But for me, the "Christian" aspect doesn't really change things. It gives me insight as to what they actually meant, but doesn't make it any less awesome for me. I think most rock fans back then wouldn't have considered any religious links just because the music is too good (that guitar riff! that bass line! his singing!), and the content is not smug, preachy or self-righteous. Wouldn't it be awesome if churches had more music like this?
And there are Christians who live like this, believe it or not. Non-politicos, very quietly living our lives, and thinking of Jesus everywhere we go. We are under the radar, so to speak. God bless you.
This didn't slip into the mainstream for any other reason than it was very well written lyrically and musically, which is why most christian music stays within its own genre. Metaphors are much more interesting, something lots of christian music lacks.
These guys were so important to me. Especially this album. Geez it got played constantly at very high volume :-) was sort of a turn off when i found out how religious all there music actually was. What he was actually saying.. Good stuff regardless though.
Saw them in Boston when they backed up the Psyceledic Furs and at the Boston Garden when WBCN was doing those really cool concerts. Saw Hot House Flowers with them too. Thanks for the great video!
i met them after the concert but being a dumb kid I was so drunk I cant remember what they said...but I do remember them sounding great at the show. Yes, those were the days!!
brings me back to my wife and the promises we made, and how I miss her. its my truth. I look for her everywhere I go all over the world. shes never there
My little rock band got to back these guys up at a show in Oklahoma City. They were touring in support of the " Into the Woods " album.I thought the Replacements could drink, but they didn't have squat on The Call.
I have never seen 4 guys drink so much bourbon in my life. The keyboardist had to sit for the entire show but they still kicked -a**.Incredibly loud too. Nice guys.Wish they were still around. Way underated.
