Very interesting seeing a wushu athlete learning traditional applications. Always thought that if I could have gotten my old nanquan coach to learn straight Hung Gar I could enter her into cage fighting matches and watch her mangle people=)
Keep it in the trailer park Texas SUrf Jackass. Each day I get more and more amazed at how many morons are on You Tube. The world is sadly full of morons like you. I pity you man. Anyways , don't bother responding with more flaming, I have already made my point and won't burden myself with anymore trailer park comments. Beware tornadoes :)
Correction..these styles are designed specifically to counter other ritualized patters. Style versus style...specific technique versus specific technique.
Makes for wonderful dance ..In eclectic combat they do not work.
hmm, no, just no, speaking from experience I can honestly say that they can and HAVE been used against other martial arts Choy Lay Fut grandmaster Doc- Fai Wong defeated a golden gloves champion using genuine choy lay fut kung fu techniques, you're semi- right though kung fu has a counter for every attack within itself, yet it also encompasses all other martial arts, it has techniques like the kicks, knees, and elbows from thai boxing, all the punches of boxing, all throws in judo etc. etc.
I understand you have seen many people that can not use kung fu for fighting, yes there are very many of them because many schools today make the mistake of going straight from form practice to free sparring, this is sure to result in failure, There is another example... Malaysian Tai Chi Master Wong Seng-Yen defeated a wrestler using genuine Tai Chi Chuan techniques, I've seen this video for myself on youtube and will attempt to find it for you if you are still open-minded about the matter
It is largely obsolete and impractical. Bruce Lee proved that when he left Wing Chun and formulated JKD. I agree with you that Gung Fu is the root of modern traditional martial arts ( India actually is the origin).
I also agree that by condemning the the root so it is with the branches.Free form and mixed combat arts have trumped ALL patterned forms of fighting. Martial arts have nbecome exercise, hobby and past-time certainly anything but a martial or warring art.
you say that, but why couldn't Bruce Lee defeat his kung fu brothers or his teachers with his awesome Jeet Kune DO? He visited them after he had already formulated Jeet Kune Do, yet they could still defeat him when all they were using was a so-called "classical mess"? It just works, No one makes you use it, It does however seem like your mind is already made up on the matter, As for what you say...if it's true, at least you realize it, right??
TexasSurfDonkey whats up with all narrow minded'ness? lol You do know Mixed Martial Arts ARE martial arts right?...As for patterned forms of fighting, BBJ and kickboxing or whateva do have fixed techniques for certained types of attacks, and yes thoses are considered a type of pattern..lol dumbass
nice, sounds like this man actually knows a bit of something, and perhaps has seen a bit others haven't. Muay thai for instance used to be they would only train fixed techniques and force, Thailand effected a damn good army in that manner too, Same with Chinese generals like Lu Bu and Ngok Fei
it is only impractical if u fail to make it work alot of ppl these days just fail simply because they dun spend enough time training simple kicking n punching ne1 can learn to do that its like u give sum1 a guitar ne1 can hit a few strings but it takes practice to shred lightning fast kung fu has 2 parts forms n free fighting forms r just to train various technique over n over its like hitting a bag when they free fight they fight just like ne1 else
I would ignore that guy, seriously, he is bgragging about fighting in bars and rign alleys alot. SOund slike a idiot to me. Yet another reason man is having a tough time evolving , cuz of slope brow morons like Texas surfdonkey.
Hey motherfucker...for someone with a dogs name you should shut the fuck up. I state the facts and I have seen guys from every style of combat and this shit NEVER works.
motherfucker? that seems a bit harsh to this gentlemen here, you really did come off as very disrespectful anyway... seriously though there are incompetent practitioners in every art, but with kung fu the problem is worse because there are so many with no sparring methodology, I understand where your coming from, but please, let's not forget our manners.
By the way...GENTLEMEN don't call people idiots for speaking their mind. This is a free country and 4 generations of my family fought and some died to make it that way. I will say what I damn well please.
yes, I suppose it wouldn't exactly be correct to call him a gentleman, but why would you say whatever you want just because you can? you can still be polite about expressing your opinion, I'm only assuming if I commented on your training saying that it looked like "dancing with the stars" you wouldn't take it as a compliment?
well I gotta say that is very interesting seeing as how kung fu was used by great generals and masters in Chinese history who convincingly defeated masters of other styles even by there own rules, you call it impractical, but do you know that for a fact?
no, you don't have to try and be an ass about it, if you're actually curious the elderly gentleman is teaching the lad how to apply his kungfu forms for fighting, he's just showing him how the techniques can be used in a certain sequence regardless of how the opponent responds, kung fu has been likened to dancing before because it utilizes sophisticated patterns unlike simple punches and kicks randomly thrown in kickboxing and such.
However you came off as extremely disrespectful, do you have any experience with this system? Or did you figure you would attempt to make a humorous & insulting comment for no good reason?
I just wish to express to you that saying kung fu is impractical is like calling every other martial art out there impractical, kung fu is the grandfather of all martial arts and all techniques come from it. But now I wish to ask you a favor, please describe to me a couple of your favorite techniques, they can be anything, please.
