Capoeira regional tends too be played at a faster pace (although capoeira angola also can be played fast). Too some extend you could say the movements in capoeira angola is more floor based - as you rarely see people jumping up high in the air. Also in capoeira angola there is a lot of rituals, which still is preserved and respected. Basicly you could say that capoeira angola is the older version of capoeira and the regional that is practiced today is a more modern version of capoeira.
Like in all martial arts, it depends on the person - his level, agression, experience. I think it's impossible to answer which system is the best. But natural you can find people saying angola or regional is best.
Capoeira is about evasion. Most of our defenses and movements are geared toward escaping and movement for tactical advantage. An example would be the fish dude in Hellboy 2
@magicninjamatt i would say bengela because in a real fight you wont be doing all that flipping or spinning, and Angola is on the ground too much another thing i dont think you would want to do in a scrap.
en mexico hay buenas academias en donde yo entreno apenas tiene medio año pero me encanta capoeira angola ojala que en un futuro nos podamos ver y jogar juntos que te parece???
Yeah.... I trained regional for 5 years before I was introduced to capoeira angola. First time I saw capoeira angola was a workshop mestre Pé de Chumbo gave in our group after his workshop in Karlstad. That really changed me! I just knew I had to do capoeira angola.
We coming to Malmö i november! Also Pé de Chumbo will be in Odense november 2-8 so there's a lot of capoeira angola in scandinavia in november.

I would like to add that Capoeira Angola Schools don't normally have Batizado or any belt system. You are either a student, professor or a mestre.

If someone attackted you, would you say regional is better, or angola?
