Soldiers shouldnt fight and kill each other in these wars because the wars are about power struggles and the control of resources, or both, that have little to do with them. Iraq is a perfect example of this. Killing people you dont know because somebody tells you to means you either accept the reasons you are given or you're just following orders and don't care to really think about them. So youre either ignorant or stupid. Pointing this out is a good idea and I hope you change a few minds :)
Hmm... either I'm getting smarter or dumber, but I seem to "get" the situation. People will end up doing seemingly ignoble deeds, either out of ignorance or necessity, so long as it is supported by their society - either with a paycheck, or with popular support... or both. There's an ugly side to anything we do, and more so with soldiers, but people have become numb to the atrocities, leaving them to focus on the sacrifices they have made, in at least some sense, for their country.
@LupineL00pine I just want to point out that a fairly large percentage of Americans were always against the Iraq War..The corporate media didnt focus on the huge protests. The propaganda won out in the end, but there was a pretty good fight put up by millions of "people". I would also add that given the belief systems in some countries that wars are inevitable and the threat to the larger industrialized countries is related to who is in power in these smaller countries.

Now dislike those orders if you want, but don't blame those that execute them. If service members suddenly decided to refuse to do what they disagree with, the military wouldn't continue to exist. It is necessary for defense PERIOD Protest the policy makers and keep service members out of it. Support what they are willing to do for you, if not the policies.

No one can say what they would do in a given situation, especially when put into a war zone, shells dropping next you, seeing dead people all around, and seeing your untimely death around the corner. It's impossible to think so you fight for survival, whichever way possible. It's easy to critique soldiers, though I have no sympathy for the volunteers who go to fight unjust wars like those in Iraq or Afghanistan. As far as killing, well I can't say that feels like, fortunately, I never had to.

It's not a question of murdering , though war crimes happen all the time and must be punished. Taking a life isn't easy, but, at most times, you don't even have the time to think, you have to shoot. For some, after a while, killing in a war zone becomes automatic. Most soldiers who have killed live with the fact that they have taken lives and for some, it becomes a painful ordeal. Brainwashing, that is the purpose of the army, turn men into machines incapable of critical thought.

I respect your opinion but being a soldier myself, when someone was trying to take my life I shot back. Don't blame the soldiers for the situation they were put in, whether we agree with the war or not we went and fought because thats what good soldiers do. Do I feel bad for those children that I possibly made orphans? Of course I do, but I saw it as either they go home to their families or I do, and no one is going to take me from my family like that. @ricanangel2008 war is a choice but too many people are stupid... only death and taxes are certain, and eventually there will be no taxes when society breaks down after china and india get thier middle class nation status ( in about 75 years). The current economic growth using the cheap labor model will collapse. That is inevitable and there wont be need for taxing anything. The super elite walled societies will eventually be overthrown before they can extend the human life span over 150 yrs.

It's inevitable if there are fewer resources to sustain the needs of a given people.. and if people are stupid enough to not appreciate not only the cost of war, but also the lack of justification for it. Few wars are TRULY justified... and in some crude sense "just". World War 2 may be thought of as "just", but that too could have been avoidable if people acted sooner. If we had certain technologies, and a more aware, proactive public,war needn't be.

Soldiers shouldnt fight and kill each other in these wars because the wars are about power struggles and the control of resources, or both, that have little to do with them. Iraq is a perfect example of this. Killing people you dont know because somebody tells you to means you either accept the reasons you are given or you're just following orders and don't care to really think about them. So youre either ignorant or stupid. Pointing this out is a good idea and I hope you change a few minds :)

Hmm... either I'm getting smarter or dumber, but I seem to "get" the situation. People will end up doing seemingly ignoble deeds, either out of ignorance or necessity, so long as it is supported by their society - either with a paycheck, or with popular support... or both. There's an ugly side to anything we do, and more so with soldiers, but people have become numb to the atrocities, leaving them to focus on the sacrifices they have made, in at least some sense, for their country.

@LupineL00pine I just want to point out that a fairly large percentage of Americans were always against the Iraq War..The corporate media didnt focus on the huge protests. The propaganda won out in the end, but there was a pretty good fight put up by millions of "people". I would also add that given the belief systems in some countries that wars are inevitable and the threat to the larger industrialized countries is related to who is in power in these smaller countries.

@thestyleofmercy You need to understand that MOST soldiers; marines; airman; and sailors don't decide military policy, they follow orders. Now dislike those orders if you want, but don't blame those that execute them. If service members suddenly decided to refuse to do what they disagree with, the military wouldn't continue to exist. It is necessary for defense PERIOD Protest the policy makers and keep service members out of it. Support what they are willing to do for you, if not the policies.

The service members don't get to decide orders, they follow them. If a CO uses their rank to get PERSONAL favors they will be reprimanded and/or kicked out of the military. Check the NCO's creed and Officer's Creed. Personal favors cannot be ORDERED.

I wish you wouldn't presume on how the service members feel about what they are called to do. There are plenty in the military that disagree with all kinds of orders, but they know that it is not their place to speak out, it is the citizens place. You want our defends to quit when they disagree, but then who would defend us when we truly need them?
