@Entei2000 They imposed as the great threat for the Revolution. They refused to fight with firearms. We only know them through anime, games, and novel. They were the ones who must be gone!
@NgJackal1990 shinsengumi fought to keep the shogunate didnt they? that wouldve better than what we have now japan shamelesssly trying to be western and working people to death they had a beautiful warrior culture before the bakumatsu
There's also an old tv series from NHK (1983) called Mibu No Koiuta, Ken watanabe has his first samurai appearance. The Ikedaya incident is also in that series, i've seen it some years ago on youtube, but i cant find it anymore.... ><
It was strange that I often watched anime or tokusatsu, while their movies like this are often not shown in cinema theaters around the world. I only see Chinese films making theatrical releases in my country in the 90's.
Did Japan does not put enough efforts to showcase their movies internationally? Only The Ring and Godzilla made such theatrical releases.
@luisrlcs Well, the scene from Samurai X where the Shinsengumi invaded the Ikeda Inn actually happened. So this is just another portrayal of a moment in history.
@MrShinsengumi09 I've seen both versions of the uniform. I wouldn't be surprised if both versions existed, maybe depending on the task they were performing. But I don't know for sure.
All adaptions of this battle feel exactly the same, even the layout of the inn is similar. 0_o Was history that specific on what the place looked like?
Okita Soji in manga Kaze Hikaru by Taeko Watanabe resembles this Okita Soji in some ways (face structures) =D If you read the manga, you'll know. I personally recommend!
@ruyinii did you see "when the last sword is drawn"? it's a kick ass shinsengumi movie that's very modern and is well crafted in terms of story telling technique and cinematography. Also there's the film "Shinsengumi" starring mifune that has a similar feel to this clip but I don't think it's a re release of this movie since I didn't notice the main man in this clip.
Srry. A fanweb said his name in this drama is Katsuhiko Nakagawa but I'm not sure. As I didn't find his name in the cast list of Byakkotai 1986 (on wiki). Besides, Katsuhiko Nakagawa was known as singer (on google) than actor.
The leader there you said was Hijikata but really it was Kondou Isami. This is when the group found out about Okita's TB. They were suppose to be backed up by the Aizu clan but they didnt show till it was after the battle. Most of the chichi clan was killed but about 9 got away roughly. It wasnt written down how many got away but this is really close to how it happened.
Yes Kondou was the Leader and it wasnt done til he was captured and beheaded. But the Shishi clan (last time I checked thats what they were called) was apart of the who wanted the government to change. But they really did make a big part in this yes.
in the way they fought, Id say it was Okuta as it was said, he was the best and was even feared by Kondo Isami. Okita was a very skilled swordsmen and was well known too. Saito was more of regular swordsmen but had develpoed a new sword art. He was a good swordsmen but Id say it was Okita that would win out of the 2.
He's good but Saito Hajime and Okita Souji were more feared members of the Shinsengumi. They were in a higher sword level than Hijikata. So was Nagakura Shinpachi who was on Saito and Okita's level.

This is why I hate Samurai X. I hate anime that brings samurai's and the shinsengumi in because they have the wrong history. Those who like shinsengumi for anime should not even say the word shinsengumi.
Nobuhiro Watsuki's history was accurate on the background of the Shinsengumi when writing Rurouni Kenshin, although he never included much to begin with. He did historically envision Saitou the way he pictured him, since there's only one image of him that exists(Or so we believe), so no one really knows what his real features or manners were. All we know is he studied in Ittouryu Kenjutsu, which Watsuki replaced with his own Kenjutsu called "Gatotsu". He WAS a police officer named Fujita though
Honestly, the only other anime or manga I remember with Shinsengumi in it is called Peacemaker, and that was mostly historically inaccurate. That was just a random play.

so it means the aizu clan is a alliance of shogunate?
i thought aizu is a anti government clan..
Katsuragi14 3 years ago
oh i see. KOndo Isami is the Commander of the Wolves of mibu^_^(shinsengumi),
so his works ended when the restoration began am i right?.
and the choshu clan has a big role of the restoration.

Yes Kondou was the Leader and it wasnt done til he was captured and beheaded. But the Shishi clan (last time I checked thats what they were called) was apart of the who wanted the government to change. But they really did make a big part in this yes.
