  • looks like windows 7 with metro ui overlay

  • Is Windows 8 using the Windows 7 kernal structure?

  • I hate it. I dont want a "phone/tablet" interface forcefed - looks as if Win 7 might be as far as I go - a hard look at Linux is in order once Win 7 is too outdated to run anything. Even if you can "disable" the options - your still installing a lot of crap that has NO business being on a pc. Waste of space and system resources.

  • Can you update the developer edition of windows 8 to this upcoming beta?

  • What were they thinking when they made that? It's far inferior then the normal start menu we have in Windows 7.

  • I'll only ever use a desktop PC. So I really don't see the need to upgrade to Windows 8, and since I've never used a tablet, or iphone, or whatever, I'll never get used to, or like that kind of interface.

  • Looks interesting.

  • I actually reather like the look of it, in my personal opinion I think it looks funkier and more modern and slick than Apple, which hasen't really changed too much over time and as such, looks dated.

  • Final version of Windows Vista is what I'm sticking with. Just absolutely FUCK this garbage. Nice try Microsoft.

  • when i click on a tile it does not work, any one can help?

  • I thought it be like android honeycomb or 3.2 or 4.0 like a tablet or android phone interface oh well it's best to get a tablet.

  • Microsoft: "HOW DO I UI?"

  • Total fail, so rubbish, they don't even change the wallpaper lol

  • they made xbox like this, and i hate it.

  • ill stick with linux

this is just windows 7 with another start button

    FAIL

  • @TheDesius lol, linux is a joke

  • @bigdima3 hahahaha

windows 8 is a joke XD

its made for tablets not for computers

and all the people with some knowledge of computers use linux

windows is for dump people who can't program

  • @TheDesius Such a stupid comment. You should realize that not everyone is a programmer.

  • @bigdima3 you should realize that not all the linux OS are for programmers

  • @TheDesius Who want's to program?

  • @TheGenesisfreak

    what would u do otherwise?

you can do everything on youre mobile

  • @TheDesius yes, i can play battlefield 3 on my android right now

  • @TheDesius you should realise that half of stuff doesn't work on linux, a true pro would have both running. Dumb people are people who can't even spell the word.

  • @Jaya365 what stuf?

    u never heard of wine?

    only games wont work

and maybe i cant spell couse im not english and have dislection or something

  • @TheDesius don't pretend that everything is compatible with linux and wine cos as you well know it isn't and for me to put a list of incompatible programs on this thread would take me all day. I think you're right you are dislection.

  • Its going to be faster and better, so why you all hating? there is always thepiratebay :P

  • @MakeMikael In holland, it gets blocked soon! NOOOO

  • ok this looks really nice

  • Microsoft: "How can we make more money? Oh...we can take win7, put some shit in it so that looks like a new os, sell business edition for 500. The shitty windows phone-touch screen look will be perfect for businesses. And that's how we make money in microsoft!"

    Kiss my bright a**

  • @kotsarikos13 I will free download it. I think.

  • "Pre-beta"...alpha?

  • well i run win 7 and linux ubuntu and i think win8 is starting to look like linux ubuntu !!

  • FuCK OSX FUCK WINDOW VISTA, 7, 8 im sticking with windows 95

  • The fuck is this shit?

  • i will it :D

  • i don't like the tiles look....

  • Looks great etc, but there leaving the keyboard and mouse behind eventually. I'm a gamer, so for me this makes me sad. Obviously thats where the future is everything is gonna be touch screen. I'm staying on Win7

  • Is this UI tweak the only difference between 7 and 8?

  • It`s Great I love it and i download it and install it its COOL MAN

  • How much time do you think for the beta? Hopefully it better than this really dislike it

  • I was wondering if Windows 8 looked promising.

It's not that bad, but I think I'll stick to XP.

  • Sorry but its horrific, i think it would be ok on a tablet pc or a touchscreen pc but on a proper computer, no.

  • this looks like shit what a sucking piece of software... most of us are on desktops and laptops not tablets... this is complete shit

  • @pro353 LOL you think MS Cares About Gamers Besides on The Xbox 360, They couldn't care less because they are gonna still make millions off this, And the reason they are making this for tablets is to take down Apple's iOS

  • @pro353 It is completely compatible.. If you don`t like it say bye to Microsoft because everythings changing to the tiled look. And personally I think it is amazing

(Waiting for a troll to reply to me and say i`m a retard :3).

  • @Jarhead1407 Oh I'm sorry I didn't realise that you were so brainy, so basically in your ultimate knowledge what your saying is that it's windows 7 with a desktop add on, quick let me run and get my 150 pounds for a copy. Dumbass that's like saying windows vista was the same as xp with a ui change, don't be such a tard. Also when your using the aero desktop as a selling point and everyones telling you it SUCKS, whats the point in using it for marketing answer me that BRAIN BOY

  • @Jaya365 No, I'm saying they took what is amazing about Win7 (which, let's be honest, is about 90% of it), optimized it for tablet use, while mainting the productive desktop-esque Windows we all know and love. There's a huge difference between XP and Vista, but for me to explain that it would require you having a deep knowledge of computers. Why do you think everyone loved XP and hated Vista? Sure as hell wouldn't because of the UI change (most people agree Vista is prettier).

  • @Jarhead1407 People hated Vista because MS made a mistake with their security protocols - they did it wrong - answering 3-5 dialog boxes with passwords to move a folder was a bit frustrating for lack of a better word. It wasn't interface. Windows 7 cleaned that up - a clear step in the right direction. This Win 8 version is clearly an over-zealous attempt to get as many tablets phones and PCs under one OS umbrella - this will fail and everyone will hear the thud.

  • app sometimes not wokring O_o

  • Wow, those windows are ugly. I really dislike the buttons.

  • I want to switch from windows 7 to windows 8, because this video.

  • not too bad , I use XP Pro though , I have Win 7 & Vista and they even have 2 or 3 gigs of ram , but they hog it all up , I have 800 PC's with a Gig or under in ram - so Using XP Pro meets all my needs :) QC

  • @Quaaludedude714 You got 800 PC's? o.O?

  • This looks like shit not liking it at all

  • what a load of shit. XP wins Vista Fail 7 WIns and guess what, 8 fails. A PATTERN. Fuck this shit.

  • Omg what a load of shit. Metro is awful I hate it I hate the windows phone look it's awful. Microsoft seriously suck hard at the moment. The desktop pc is slowly going to die with this shit which is designed for tablets.

  • XP is better than 7 and all the others

  • omg this sucks balls.

  • i dont like it.

  • Anyone else sticking with windows 7? another vista fail.

  • @Jaya365 well its an off-OS. 2000 sucked, XP is awesome. Vista is awful, win7 is awesome. Seems to be a pattern here...

  • @Jaya365 I don't know how many times people with brains, like me, have to say this: the onlyl thing that's been replaced is the Start screen. That's it. The desktop is still there. All the Aero features are there. When you hit the Start button, you're taken to the Start screen. From there you can still search your entire computer like you've always been able to do. Does no one understand this. Windows 7 is still there. It's not that hard to comprehend.

  • I'll pass, I think i'll wait on Windows 9

  • i think windows xp is way better than this

  • how many people have said it looks bad its a beta get over it

  • @1TheSandman24 it looks bad though. In beta the concept is there and finalised, the final product won't be a hundred miles away.

  • @Jaya365 but this is alpha stage which is before beta and the design can change in alpha

  • Hey ! i tried to install this, it said i didnt have the right hardware, and idea what it is that i don't have for this ?

  • Looks like they have rushed everything, they sould of taken more care in the visual side of things

  • I am sticking with Win 7 for now, I like it!

  • The negative comments here are laughable. Microsoft will have the good 'ol start menu in the final release. And, I think people are going to like Metro. You just don't like it now because you're thinking about running it on your current hardware. I think 90% of laptops are going to have touchscreens in the next 5 years. Toshiba released a model like this a few years ago but it did not sell well because Windows 7 is not touch friendly. This will change with Windows 8.

  • @piratesmvp Guys, let's face the truth about touch screens. Touch screens are not suitable for hands if the screen is vertical, either it's a desktop or a laptop. You get easily tired, and you can not work, not saying that you will catch tenontitis soon. Touch screens are suitable only on horizontal surfaces, aka the laptops have to turn to slim tablets, and desktop screens to turn horizontal really "desktop" even with an angle. Then, one should have the screen on his desk, or on his knees.

  • @hrbear Well, if you plan to use the touchscreen for 90% of your input, then, yeah, a vertical orientation is not the best setup. But, there are sometimes situations where I wish I could just tap something on my laptop screen. Or, in class, if I'm taking notes in OneNote and then my instructor decides to start drawing something on the whiteboard, I want to be able to pull out my stylus to input the drawing next to my typed text. I think touch with kinect will be key in next generation computing

  • @piratesmvp Well, 2 cases I saw and I liked were in the last James Bond movie, if you remember the scene where the bad guys were computing something on a touch desktop, or the Avatar movie computers. I would like an electronic pencil also, to work on an horizontal touch. As touch screens are not suitable for data entry, either an additional keyboard should be there, and the voice recognition should be far better. But this for the future. Windows should be replaced by more sophisticated system :)

  • wow i really hope that it doesn't stay like that

  • windows 8 is stupid

  • that looks like lag.

  • i hate windows 8... so bad! D:

  • im pretty sure a pre-beta version of something is calle dthe alpha version

  • Wow what a fail

  • Windows Phone 7.5 for PCs ?? WTF??

  • Really don't give a s*** about the win8's stupid windows phone inspired retarded menu!

  • Windows 8 seems so stupid... Nobody asked for this shit

  • im not going to put my pcs thorugh windows8's hell

  • can i play pinball on this crap?

  • If there is no option to turn off that tile bullshit, I will never buy W8. I don't understand, they went from XP (awesome) to Vista (horrible) to W7 (awesome) to W8 (looking horrible so far). At least this is a pre-beta, so they haven't crushed my hopes yet, but if it stays with this annoying Apple-style toddler interface, they'll lose a lot of customers. I guess I'll just ignore everything from MS until W9 is shown.

  • I was almost going to beleive that Microsoft has changed after Windows 7... I was wrong.

  • windows7 x64 will be my favorite for a long long time ..

  • Windows 8 can suck my cock...

    WINDOWS 7 x64 ALL THE WAY :D

  • @0oDarkLordRevano0 I Had WIndows 8 and i LUVED it

  • @0oDarkLordRevano0 Windows 8 is amazing!!!... one thing bad about it... i hate the start button! black backround... ps you can change the wall paper to transparent too...

  • @0oDarkLordRevano0 I was expecting 96x with Windows 8.

  • love it!

  • Everyone seems to hate windows 8 as i did until i installed it and actually used it....It's great it's simple faster and works i don't see why people just automatically hate something because it looks different.

    jeez friggen Operating System nazis

  • Winmac?

  • is "run" still there?

  • I HATE IT...

  • i like it

  • ITS NOT WINDOWS ANYMORE ITS FRIGGIN TILES 8 D: ME NO GUSTA

  • if all the apps only run in fullscreen mode, why is this called "windows"?

  • @PowerswitchEntertain LOL nice xD

  • @PowerswitchEntertain what you said does not make sense.

  • @MrToad321 if its all fullscreen.... there would be one "window" and no "windows"

  • @PowerswitchEntertain why is everyone so retarded? it has windows, metro is just a feature/start menu.

  • @PowerswitchEntertain errr they will change the name to:Fullscreens version 1.0 :D

  • @PowerswitchEntertain cos some have a window option

  • @PowerswitchEntertain

I used to ask the same questions as you, than I took an arrow in the knee.

  • windows 8 is good for tablets and other mobile touch devices but for a pc this is a fail. Microsoft seems to be trying to merge mobile and pc into one and the result is going to be ugly. this is gonna be windows vista all over again.

  • I thought the redesign of the task bar was good in Win7, so why is "metro" needed when all the apps I use are right on the task bar? They should have put search on the taskbar itself.

  • how u did u geta copy...???

    R u ...a NINJA?

  • Wow, the start menu looks REALLY clunky. Sure, it looks nice, but it doesn't seem very functional.

What I really loved about Windows 7 was that all I had to do to start a program was click the start bar, type in the name of the program and hit enter. There was no need to scroll through a menu or clutter the desktop icons. It's fast and efficient.

With Windows 8, it looks like I'm either going to have to make a bunch of ugly icons or take the time to fish through the odd start menu.

  • @mickeymouse12678 Whoops! I've got quite a lot of spelling/grammar issues in that.

Please forgive me, it's getting to be 1AM.

    :/

  • Why do people make such a big deal about the desktop UI, and OS UI? Do you just spend all your time staring at the desktop or navigating through your folders? No, you use the desktop for like 2 seconds and then you open a program, which looks the same no matter what version of windows you have...

  • People don't like change. Change is what Windows is going for here, and even though it's pretty much what everyone needs and it's very intuitive, people still won't like it because they've become accustomed to Windows 7. They're going to say that this is shit when it's actually really not horrible at all. People just don't like change.

  • @AngryRantingNerd Yup. They are afraid of change. Plus, they are not FORCED to change to this. So really they're just being hysterical.

  • LOL this is not going to sell very well.

  • majority of people dont even buy that touch screen shit when buying a computer. Tell me how old people are going to find this easy? and whats with every company trying to force 3D vision in our lives? Plus its ugly as fuck!

  • looks like some touch screen shit!!!!!!!!!

we have a fucking mouse n keyboard WTF!!!

  • This isnt Windows. Maybe for a Tablet, or a Phone, but not a Laptop or Desktop.

  • @BlackRaven117 ROFL. We all want to believe that.. But sadly... It's not true. It is in fact for the desktop

  • @Nikinikas I hope that Microsoft turns this product around.

  • i think if anyone wants to enjoy the full futures of windows 8 he must have a touch screen cuz windows 8 built for it

  • @ShallNeverSurrender7 Yeah no shit that's why it sucks.

  • Linux / Ubuntu will take over 2012 ?

  • Dear Windows PLZ make it an option so wie can turn this shit off

  • Windows 7 nickname - win7

    Windows 8 nickname - winshit

  • @roy3805 What do you win?

  • @roy3805 Its very odd to see but once you work with it you'll say Windows 8 --> Win 8 ! :D

  • @roy3805 How about "fail8"?

  • I'm loving the new look and feel. However I have a question that maybe you could answer, how can you make your mouse permanently stay on the screen? I have a touchscreen computer if it matters, but, when I move my mouse around, the cursor only shows when there's a link or piece of text. I'd like for it to always appear, it stays permanently there for a short period sometimes, however when I click OK in the change mouse settings section.

  • windows 8 makes me want ta puke

  • Windows Store.... App Store... I WANT WINDOWS NOT MAC!!!

  • i dont like it, it is like too much for touch screen devices and not for the normal user.

  • 界面太恶心了

  • better not lag

  • Sucks, should have keep Win7 design just used Win8 improvements. Metro works for the phone, not not for PC or Notebook. Might work in a NetBook.

  • Comment removed

  • good thing you can turn all this crap off.

  • This is suppose to be a desktop/laptop os not a mobile/tablet os. It looks and feels (I have the developer preview as well) like windows phone 7 with a dumbed down version of windows 7 behind it. I really thing that Microsoft is having trouble combining there mobile interface and Desktop interfaces. They even hav destroyed their trademarked start button ;-( . I just can't see someone actually using this on a desktop computer. It looks like it should be for tablets.

  • WHAT THE HELL!!!!

    No more fancy backgrounds?

  • So, when opening Firefox I can't press the Start button on my keyboard, type Firepl0x and hit enter?

  • HEY MICROSOFT... Windows 8 Sucks Shit Pie!!!

  • This should only be for tablets.

  • This was pretty interesting I must say. I love the plain look and feel to it. A lot of things today try to be to catchy!

  • windows 7 FTW!

  • i am not sure with the whole metro thing i hope in the finale bulid thay give us an option to go back to having a oul start menu

  • @pettyfan45 they do you fucking idiots. there's an option to go back to the desktop.

  • @rivengle i saw that dumbass i was talking about instaed of the metro tile stuff if it can be changed to a classic start menu like in windows 7

  • Metro Style Interface looks a lot like one of Rainmeter's designs. Not a very intuitive interface in my opinion. Much prefer just the basic "home" background.

  • Comment removed

  • Shit interface...

    Way to go Microsoft

  • gtfo apple fanboys

  • i want it

  • Is it me or does it look unprofessional? It just looks soo cheap in my opinion.

  • I like this.

  • There better be a way to turn off this shit, or I am sure as hell not upgrading.

  • I don't care about a new start menu. I never use it since i discovered toolbars for the taskbar. All my icons go!

  • Windows 8 is/will be a piece of crap. That's what I think. When Vista came out I held on to XP. I upgraded straight to 7.

Same thing here. I'll stick with 7 until something good comes along.

  • The visual style of windows 8 is ugly as hell. I dont really like it so far...

  • Ewww not looking forward to this at all il probably wait and get windows 9 when it comes out the only reason i would get this is if u could turn off tiled mode

  • I dont like the new metro style.... O and do you guys know where the shutdown button is? UNDER CONTROL PANEL! WTF!! D:

  • I don't mind the metro style as long as there is an ability to disable it. Not many people have touchscreen monitors. The good old mouse is still practical to me.

  • i like it it's not better than win 7 but its nice

  • Crappy interface.

  • I hate it :/

  • The new start interface looks to much like a tablet interface and not a desktop. I hope that in the full version you are still able to use the windows 7 start interface.

  • @NZPCtechGUY

I know. If you play some of the preinstalled games it says to do things like swipe left or right which is lingo for a touch interface on a tablet.

  • Windows 7 FTW !!!!!!!!, 8 Sucks ass =S!

  • Its awesome :)
