I became an Auxiliary FF due to my responsibility to my community. At that time Auxiliary firefighters and Police were under Civil Defense. It was to be there after the bomb dropped on NY and we had our own rigs. We were not to replace the FDNY or NYPD but to maintain a continuety of services. We were trained that we would be on our own for weeks if the we got nuked. Therefore it is better to have and not need than to need and not have. Stop the closing of the fire companies, Remember tin house,
Firefighters are not very good at grasping politics. I can remember when Von Essen became Commissioner, and I was on a job with an Engine Company, and one of the guys says..."Hey, our guy got in!". I laughed at him, and said..."Really? He knows your unions strategy for the next 5 years. Not a good thing in my book." One day you guys will learn the reality of fiscal issues and politics.
And let's not forget about 3/4 tax free pensions. Let's be real, they are NOT all legit. And please don't try and tell me they are. That adds up to lots of money paying people for the rest of their lives for what in some cases are not job related in the first place. I don't begrudge anyone getting what they can, but let's be real here, and stop playing on the emotions of the public.
Fires are down because of better inspections, and better building and safety design. The Bronx is not burning because there is nothing left to burn in those areas, and the new buildings are made more resistant. It's called progress. This is not the 1900's where we need lots of Fire Companies. Besides, it's the upper FDNY Chiefs and Staff giving the Mayor the numbers to close down any houses. FDNY is no longer a sacred cow for budget cuts. get used to it.
First off, some of the companies in this video are NOT closed and are still operating. Be happy Von Essen got you all into CFR-D, because if you were not doing EMS runs, they would have closed more companies years ago. They had 25 on the chopping block since the fiscal crisis in the 70's. Bloomberg just had the balls to make the cuts. Fire calls are down. Thats reality. It's about money. Thats reality.
Enough is ENOUGH this is just plain sick mayor bloomberg is a failure as unreadyny mentioned. FDNY personnel should not suffer unneeded deaths that is JUST sad that mayor bloomberg would let that happen under his watch & construction accidents under his watch claiming a firefighter THAT DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY IS NOT A HERO Mayor Bloomberg is just plain mean that is sad claiming a dead firefighter is not a hero when any form of emergency worker dies he/she automatically becomes a hero so
Not good that the guy is shutting down most of FDNY and I know how most of you guys feel about all this bull sh*t that he is doing this to you guys and NY. I understand what you are thinking because I am a firefighter in Pa.
Great video, but one minor correction. The video shows firehouses that were to be closed on 7/1/2009, I would like to mention that E-4/L-15 is still open for business. My brother works down there and while there was a scare from that douchebag Bloomberg, the house is alive and well.
Although the 1737 Act created the basis of the fire department, the actual legal entity was incorporated in the State of New York on March 20, 1798 under the name of "Fire Department, City of New York."
The city's first firehouse was built in 1736 in front of City Hall on Broad Street. A year later, on December 16, 1737, the colony's General Assembly created the Volunteer Fire Department of the City of New York, appointing 30 men who would remain on call in exchange for exemption from jury and militia duty. The city's first official firemen were required to be "able, discreet, and sober men who shall be known as Firemen of the City of New York, to be ready for service by night and day
Unreal - The official New York Mayors Office slogan is - Let Them Eat Cake. .... Fatal crane accidents , steam pipes blowing up in the street because the pipe is almost 100 years old , 6 firehouses shut down and what does your tax dollars get you ... waterfalls under the brooklyn bridge.... out with the burgiouse and back to real , responsible city government.
I don't understand something, why would anyone shut down any fire company? Is it the city is running low on funds? If that's the case look at CA. that state is running on brokw and it still keeps the fire companies up and running
@unreadyny Bloomberg says that the response time increased since the closing of a few fire houses.Biullshit.They make so much money on property taxes, cigs, food and clothes and money from the federal government and they say there isn't enough money.Someone needs to check out the State of New York and see where all the money is going. There are jobs that are created for people and there is also double and triple man power jobs that need to be checked. You have 3 people doing one persons job.
WOW! I cant believe he would close down all those companies there is so much history and tradition in them and the more firefighters the better. dont try to cut the good guys to save money.
@hoochee004 It's called bullshit. People are giving their lives to protect others and they are worrying about a piece of paper that runs the world when it's nothing more than an object with believed value, when it really has none. Saving innocent lives is more important than balancing your damn checkbook.
@gmcbuses Recall those fundamentalist Christians who support any politician who is antiabortion and oppose any politician who is proabortion? Well, don't be like them. We should not judge politicians based on single issues. We need to look at the whole package.
@hoochee003 Voting for fire department cuts, they should be voted out. They could careless about your safety. They should be cutting the fatcat administrative office pencil pushers.
@gmcbuses I don't see in what sense replying to your comments constitutes "stalking." You are one of the few people I really respect on YouTube, because you are prepared to discuss the issues, even with someone with a different point of view. I'm disappointed.
@hoochee003 Thanks and I will continue to discuss the issues, because as a activist, if I do not discuss the issues, I"m not making my points stand. That is especially with someone, with a different point of view. If I can just sway someone so much as 2% I can say I got somewhere.
Hope "major blommbergs" house catches fire.

How do they justify closing stations knowing that it's gonna take more than 5 minutes for firefighters to get to their destinations?
