One of the beautiful, talented, and sadly mostly forgotten singers from the 60s. This one is among her best, she is great on standards, but this one is her own. Love her Pepsi "for those who think young",,my sister and I were big fans of Joanie. I have on tape her singing on an early 77 Sunset Strip episode. Great photos in this video too, kitchens, stores, and burger places haven't modernized much in 45 years, just got more bland looking, seems our only advances have been technology.
Nice photo collage of the times, too! Ha! I worked at a McDonalds JUST like that one! in the late 60's, started at $1.30/hr I think, burgers were $0.15, fries were $0.12, milkshakes a quarter, wow now i'm getting real nostalgic.
Good times tho' it was the hangout for all the cool guys & gals AND hot cars.....
Don't be so down on today's America, all the kids will reminisce the same way about today 40 yrs from now.
I'm crying--if I could capture the numeral "1966" in music and words it would be this song. I'm suddenly transported to my Ford station wagon and TV dinner Cincinnati suburb of Mt. Healthy.
I love Joanie Sommers--that distinctive voice, the piano cuts, the backing chorus.
Thank you 74sodapop--I'll meet you at the United Dairy Farmers for a malt.
If you enjoy Joanie Sommers and want to hear her doing a different style of music, pick up "Look Out! It's Joanie Sommers!" (1962), which is a compilation of her work with Bobby Troup and Shelly Manne groups as they sang live on radio programs of the day. If you like jazz and Joanie, it's worth checking out. You will also recognize Joanie as the "Come Alive, You're In the Pepsi Generation" voice from commercials in the 1960s.
I was born in the 50s and remember the 60s well, and those dresses and haircuts oooooweee !. Yes and the respect and the fun we had in those days !.Gee this song and the footage brings back memories !
meloncolyman, yes we all grow up and time goes by way too fast!, I too rememeber those days growing up with mom and dad and miss them dearly...sad to say americas in decline, so lets keep playing songs like these maybe itll help ease the pain

Sorry I just ran across this. Awesome job. Takes me way back to the good old days. Great photos and song. Must have been alot of work and I appreciate the effort. Thank you for the memories. Born in '51.
I Can`t believe you postedthis. I was just thinking of this song & said to myself...."It`ll never be there but try youtube".!! Like MAGIC, there it was. Feel good type music, reminds me of walking on the beach with my girlfriend back in `66 when America was a great country and people cared about each other. Awesome post by heebieandjeebie. Cool insight from someone that didn`t grow up in those times. Thanks Again!
Great job!!! Joannie Sommers is a beautiful gentle breeze that erases all the problems of today away! Glad I was born in 1963,,,Great morals, respect, awesome parents,I will love to get those years back. The music,tv shows,dignity,values......todays' world is cluttered with junk!!! No one cares about anyone but themselves!
22foxy: I can make you a copy.Song is terrific, uplifting & very positive. She has a great voice. Have you heard her Johnny Get Angry? Jazzy Piano Riff on that one was copied by Beatles Day In The LIfe, John & Paul had good ears as did their talented musical mutitasker producer George Martin.
Wow... when I hear this.. it reminds me of when I was a little, little kid and my parents entertained friends at the house with cocktails and 'Better Homes & Gardens - Hor'dourves'.. Such a precious time is childhood.. we grow up too fast..

@wynonie America is still great, we unfortunately have a few people like
Obama, Bush, Pelosi, Reid, etc etc who are not great!
Maybe we can't bring back 1966, but greatness, hold on to your
hat!

Joanie's voice undresses her man, gives him a warm bath and cuddles him until he falls asleep...all with a word or two.

I love her swing work on the Navy Swings! recordings, on the album "Look Out! It's Joanie Sommers" the very best; an incredible vocal talent.
