STOP compadres !. the fact is: in Mexico we had Baywindows T2 with 1600 type 1 engines until 1986 ,early versions were aircooled , I own one of these beauties ,1986 late versions were water cooled that is 1800 4 cil in line, ( Passat engines ? ) how could you call this type 2 3/4 ? type 4 2lts FI engines never reached Mexico . And show respect for xavi 242 , hes pulling alone .
@alicmansan Thanx 4 the support :] I wasn't trying to disrespect xavi 242 tho, I just saw the world record attempt and thought it was cool so I mentioned it. We got the engine out of my 71' bay window to replace a rubber boot on the intake a little while ago, the whole repair took like an hour! You gotta love how easy they are to work on (^.^) I had my brother and my dad, but with just one guy it could get a bit tricky...lining up the engine when we put it back in took a bit of patience...
type 4??????seriously man, get your facts strait. 50's-67 was type 1. 68-79 was type 2. after that it was type 3. I've never even heard of type 4. I don't think they called it a bus after type 3. I own a type 2. very fun to drive. It's by far the most scary vehicle I've ever driven, but the thrill you get and all the people screaming when you go by......priceless:)
It's confusing. The Bus itself is TECHNICALLY called a "VW Type 2". The MODELS also go from Type 1 (splitty), Type 2 (bay-window), Type 3 (Vanagon). You're right, they didn't call it a "Bus" after type 3. After that it was the Eurovan.
As for the engine...he has his facts straight. The engines in the '72-'79 bay-window Buses were indeed called the Type 4. It's kind of weird because there is no engine called Type 2 or 3. The engine before the "Type 4" was called the Type 1, from the Beetle.
Go fuck a chainsaw you asshole. Either point out what you THINK I'm wrong about and back it with something other than your ego, or get the fuck out of here. Ppl like you are the reason the internet is so fucked up. You come in here and rather than adding something to the conversation and helping someone out you just throw useless insults to bring ppl down.
you are a total fucking jerk off spouting off wrong information. bus's from 52-67 were still called type 2.the type 2 bus was still based on the type 1 engine till 72 when the type 4 engine was avail as a option till it became standard in 74(i think). w/e. you stated you have never even heard of the type 4 so fuck off.
Look, the buses are sometimes refered to as the splitty being type 1, bay (both 68-72 and 73-79) being type 2, and the vanagon being type 3. That's how I've heard it, and I've heard it said like that ALOT. The beetles(all of them) are also referred to as type 1, and all of the buses as type 2. I don't know or care what the official naming system was. People refer to them like that^ Frankly there are so many people that mix it up, you might as well ignore calling them by types altogether.
@Shaggyshadric , wow. wow. you really have no clue about vdubs do you. no where..never. EVER are split windows referd to as type 1's...EVER. they may have a type 1 engine in there but thats it. Just stop with the asstalk already. You are out of your element.
My uncle got his record down to 15 minutes for a vw engine removal and installment. That was on a bug though. the buses have the extra 2 engine mounts so it would take a little longer. Me and my bro pulled my engine on my 71 bus in 40 minutes. Neither of us had ever worked on a vw or knew much about it....
my record is 14 minutes 18 seconds so tell youre uncle to take some viagra and try again. me and my homie pulled one on a 69 bus in 30 minutes 45 seconds, we proceded to do 100 sit-ups
Lmao, Idk about buses, but I just saw a vid of a world record attempt to remove and replace a beetle engine right here on youtube, really cool stuff :] 4 guys pulled the engine, put it back and drove off in a minute and 4 seconds! All with only hand tools. Incredible vehicles, it's a shame they stopped making them :[ oh well, just makes our's more rare ;D hahaha
ahahahah...good on ya mate!!!

His facts are straight. The bus got the type 4 engine in 1972. It never had the type 3 engine.

I would agree with the exception of "Eurovan" I've always heard the type 3 called a "T3" or a "Vanagon" ;]
