Jutras may be my favorite player ever. I live in Michigan now, but I'm from Holyoke originally and bowled in junior leagues there (as well as men's leagues at the new-closed Kenmore Bowladrome when I was away at college). I had the privilege of bowling in a summer league at Canal Lanes in 1998 to which Jutras also belonged -- managed to average 114 -- the best I ever posted for a full season was 112 twice. He was always a gentleman, even when kicking my ass. :)
It's worth noting that my biggest weakness as a player was a lack of striking power -- in 15 years, I never once rolled a turkey, never mind a 4-bagger that should have been 5. Great stuff!
Even though he lost in this match its nice to see Charlie still going strong at his age- he has to be easily one of the best over-70 candlepinners ever if not the best.
If it wasn't for the arthritis in his knee, he'd still be a 120+ average bowler like he was 3 yrs. ago when I first met him. (On a Senior Pro Tour stop in Danvers, MA)
I have to add that Charlie was a big reason I took up bowling in the first place -- I started watching the Ch. 5 show in the middle of a winning streak he had in, if memory serves (which it may not), 1972 or so. I can still hear Don Gillis's voice intoning, "The Defending Champion on Candlepin Bowling Stars is Charlie Jutras of Agawam!" Who knew that such a legendary figure would still be competing, all these years later!

Must be something about guys named Charlie, because the great Charlie Milan up in Brewer, Maine still has good velocity on his ball, too.

I think that Charlie is one of the all-time best bowlers! He is about 75 I think and is still winning tournaments!
