I am so glad I did'nt buy this player as Ive read lots of bad comments on it, plus one thing that I hate most of all is piss poor customer support, one of the reasons I dont buy creative products anymore..
No support still for YouTube playback even after being aware of the proble for more than a year now. They just do not care about the customer input, and probably believe the customers will go for NMP-1000P instead - NO WAY, with that lousy customer support, I will find anothert product from another company!!
I like these devices, but I feel robbed when i buy a QNAP, I feel they should be more fairly priced considering a vast amount of software development on there devices are founded or developed by the general QNAP community i.e public.
Plus there support on earlier devices is slowly dying out, and the support on there English speaking forum is near none existent on the official Qnap side of things.
Forget using it as a NAS - it has an incredibly slow network throughput of around 4MB/s - just high enough to stream HD video from another machine, but very slow when used as a NAS.

As a owner i cannot recommend this product anymore, firmware has bugs for over a year including Youtube support that is still not resolved.
Firmware which should resolve this (for the fourth time) is available in beta for the 1000P version but not for the 1000.
Very bad response from Qnap on the user forum, they simply don't respond on questions if and when there wil be a new release for the 1000P.
Buy yourself something else is my advice!

@SLRist
4MB/s = 32Mbps. I wouldn't say "incredibly slow". Fairly decent i think

For a NAS that's rubbish. Most NAS devices over USB2 and Gig ethernet support speeds upwards of 25MB/s, and 50MB/s is not at all uncommon.

"Go to QNAP and explorer more".. well, not on NMP1000 as its invisible on their site :(
Feels like a no-brainer pointing to a place with no info of it :(
Well.. hopefully they will after cebit..
