  • One of the great 90s bands. Glad to see these guys still kicking out the jams after all these yeatlrs

  • When I hear an awesome song played miserably by an overrated band, I always think "and if Built to Spill played this..."

  • Guitarist reminds me of Ian Mackaye a bit

  • You god damn right

  • Oh...I do love that dolphin-like sound of the slide guitar...~

    Absolutely gorgeous live...!!!

  • I was front row for this. Still one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands...

  • where is BrettNet?

  • I want this tab so badly

  • One of the most underrated bands in America. Doug M is a genius and an excellent guitarist.

  • it's barely your's on loan yknow?

  • cheeze whiz!! They don't make 'em like this anymore.

  • This song's so good it could be put into a guitar hero game.

  • @imsamwilson This songs to good to be put in a guitar hero game

  • in your bones, in your bonessssssssssssssssssssss

    fucking amazing

  • Performed in 1999, I didn't find out about it until 2010....what a crime

  • This is one of the best songs ever written.

  • That intro gives me chills... Love it!

  • I almost forgot about reverb...helped make my childhood amazing

  • Best thing to ever come out of my home state. Proud to be an Idahoan thanks to Doug Martsch.

  • Thank you, Idaho. Thank you for Torrie Wilson. For potatoes, of course. I dunno much else about Idaho but thank you most of all for Built To Spill - my favorite American band. Alas, I had to miss them last time they came to my neck of the woods because I had to take a final and couldn't reschedule. Stupid future and career prospects *grumble*

  • never knew that intro was on bass....thats fucking sweet

  • crazy chord progression at 2:50

  • I've seen Built to Spill 8 times and every time is better than the last, Doug evokes feelings that no band can. Best band in history and they continue to make incredible music to this day. Rarely can a band change my life in so many ways.

  • great sounds.very good!

  • @soundboy3115 Yeah, i just recently discovered them as well.. in the last 3 years. You're not the only one who missed out during the 90s!

  • If you haven't seen this band live yet, go out of your way to do so. Doug is a modern John Lennon in terms of song-writing prowess, but is as humble as a first-time coffee shop performer. The shows are simultaneously laid back and face-meltingly awesome.

  • @Zach10k Couldn't have said it better myself.. These guys ROCK.

  • i like that they dont wear skinny jeans and headbands and plaid. and they focus on music rather than trying to look like their the coolest kids in town.

  • @PLeasureJet

well, in 1999 that shit started to fade.

  • @MouseGordon yah but im also talking about the way bands act now.

  • @PLeasureJet All that wasn't cool in the 90s. It was cool to be anti-fashion in 90s a la Kurt Cobain.

  • @PLeasureJet

I agree, BTS is so awesome and real!

  • how does he get his guitar to sound like that?

  • @d4sh94

    witchcraft

  • So f-ing gooooood

  • so amazing

  • this band makes me proud to be from idaho

  • YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Douuggg!

  • Soooo goood!!! Any built to spill fans might like this BTS remix album called "the Electronic Anthology Project" is all the songs you love with funky elec beats!

  • just discovered them after reading a best of the 90s list on pitchfork. can some fans point me in the right direction? Thanks!

  • @feenyfighter Goin against your mind is pretty god damn legendary

  • @feenyfighter They're not even my favorite band in the world, and I'd still say it's completely necessary to buy their entire discography. Each album is precious and chock full of amazingly deep lyrical songs interwoven with the most melodic and beautiful use of Stratocasters this side of the mississippi.

  • @feenyfighter Listen to all of Built to Spill, because all of Built to Spill is amazing. If you like incredible guitar jams then start with Perfect from Now On. If you like perfectly crafted melodic masterpieces then start with Keep it Like a Secret. Then listen to everything else after that.

  • @ChopperJohn4 There's Nothing Wrong With Love is really good too, that was my first album of theirs. The instrumentation isn't as good, but the songwriting is amazing. Just a really fun album.

  • Saw the live once when they were opening for Kings of Leon

  • SEE. THEM. LIVE.

  • 3 people are... not Justin Bieber. Not Built to Spill haters. None of that shit. 3 people are simply fucking retards. Anyone who doesn't appreciate how good this band is, is just a moron. Simple as that. BTS are one of the best bands of the 90s, and the 00s. End of discussion.

  • Jesus fucking Christ this is good

  • They absolutely Rule this

  • The lead singer's wife is a poet and was featured on Lehrer's Newshour the other night. Apparently she writes some of Built to Spill's lyrics. Made me curious about the band.

  • I remember seeing this when it first aired. I was like, "Oh shit! BTS on HBO!" Damn near lost my mind.

  • like Nirvana on steroids. i love this band like i love my band! gave them all a copy of my new CD. they probly hated it... oh well. doug rulz

  • I am still trying to figure out how this DIDN'T make the album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @cheese5565469

huh? wtf does this even mean?

  • @evilsnakes1 In the info it says "this one did not make the Live album"

  • @cheese5565469

    ahhh, my bad

  • @evilsnakes1 No worries

  • oh god doug martsch's beard is just incredible

  • Wow I love this band

  • They played it like it was the last song to be played on earth

  • @tycer18 That's what i love about built to spill. every goddamn song they put 5000000% into each performance.

  • three people didnt want to save their lives

  • dang man, pixies and bult to spill, can they get married and have kids?

  • danm slappin ass songs since 99!

  • Built to Spill create such a beautiful mix of sounds and emotions. Music that captures the amazingly strange feeling of being alive. No band today comes close to the way they make me feel.

  • @cmmmcnasty Except for you know...Built to Spill. They're still around.

  • @cmmmcnasty great post!! I was thinking the same thing. Nobody really listens to music the way we do anymore

  • Saw them play this tonight at Wonder Ball in Portland. Was f%*&ing epically wonderful.

  • @sarpin76 me too! so sweet

  • such a great intro

  • Just saw them last night with Dinosaur Jr. @ Vicar St. in Dublin. They were brilliant. Love this video. Great track. Thanks for posting! ; )

  • The intro actually has a Broken Social Scene vibe to me...

  • Damn, they sound REALLY good live.

  • One of their best without a doubt

  • It's gonna be nice to see them together with Dinosaur Jr this spring.

  • Best Built to Spill song in my opinion

  • Caustic resin doesn't compare to built to spill... Maybe I'm just young.

  • free bird? they play it?

    this song is sic

  • Doug Martsch is a musical genius, especially when he was younger.

  • the intro was excelent!

  • this song embodies 16 years of age

  • @exoinbloom Not excelent. Intro was FUCKING AWESOME!

  • Freakin' Awesome!

  • BTS is definitely one of the best live bands I've ever seen. They completely destroy Free Bird live, not that I'm one of those guys screaming out Free Bird at concerts or anything...

  • No clue how this didn't make the album. Still great to watch. Excellent live band.

  • I've been watching the clips from this show...The sound and play is so unfucking believable!

  • Cool, The end of the song reminded me of a song off of Ultimate Alternative Wavers. It's been so long since I've listened to the Ultimate Alternative Wavers album I don't remember the name.

  • shame it didn't make it on the live album

  • great

  • This is excellent. Thanks for this.
