Got my tickets to see the Inspirals and the Mondays at Bournemouth. I can't believe that all their tour shows haven't sold out by now. Come on boys and girls, this is a gig worth seeing!!!
@captaincomputa That's because Clint had a shitload more charisma and presence. Without him, the "cool as fuck" moniker would have made them a laughing stock! He was the one member of the band that Noel Gallagher looked up to. Tom is/was an awesome singer though. Looks like a proper mall santa these days though.
Like nobody really remembers the name of The Beach Boys lead singer, but they always know who Brian Wilson is.
Now this is a fucking classic !!!! After a shit day at work, working for a cunt of a boss a few beers a listen to this song & all's well again..............
INSPIRAL CARPETS ARE FUCKING BRILLIANT. im listening to their album devil hopping, at the minute, its rellli good. but it didnt make it big at all, it beats listenin to kings of leon or the fuckin wombats.
@ctrlaltdelete1970 Very interesting observation you made. Modern recordings sound very dense and lifeless compared to 60s/70s stuff. I think they use something called multiband compression to achieve this effect. Also radio stations use shitloads of compression to louder than the competition but it squashes the dynamic range. That why live music sounds so much better. It's not been f*cked with by some audio engineer nerd!
Interesting comment from Mr Casual. I was a mod at the time and a lot of us claimed this lot as one of our own! Not trying to start a row, just interesting is all!
@scotstim75 Im 31 so missed out on the late 80s early 90s scene - Ive heard it was one of the best times to be out clubbin - I love that era of music - Technotronic, Nenah Cherry, Madchester, raves, etc. It must have been something to hae lived though.
LOVE THESE LOADS! not many people know of them, holy crap theyre missing out on amazing music ey!!!! only know this is how it feels because of the song they sing to manchester city!
@misswinkywinkybumbum not many people know of them? Are you kidding!!!! These are the Inspiral Carpets for fuck sake, where have you and these people been?

oh my god there is nothing better than the inspirals...tom is just the best xxxx i was totally obsessed when i was in my late teens am close to 40 now!! as hard as that is to admit...lol
One of my favourite songs ever. I remember being obsessed with it when I first heard about it about 10 years ago and looking for their CDs all over my trips to Italy. I finally did get an album as a present, but this song is by far the best I have heard.
BEST manchester band EVER. Vocals, Guitar, Energetic Live. LOVE these guy! I remember when featured "Commercial Rain" on 120 Minutes... hooked me i an instant. Where are they now? They should release new material!
@GelGsound Honestly, I never thought the Happy Mondays were as good as Inspiral Carpets. Hard to compare The Smiths, I mean I was talking about later acts when I mentioned best "manchester band", guess I should have said of the 90's...; ) No doubt The Smiths would be the BEST Manchester band (of all time)
these guys are class always was, back in the early 1990's all the so called cool people didnt like em, they we all Stone Roses or whatever, but they were great!!!
Brilliant! Part of the 80's casual scene, along with: depeche mode, new order, half man half biscuit, joy division, david bowie, the specials, the smiths, the doves, primal scream, the clash, happy mondays. and many others. Notice that all the Bands/Artists from then have become LEGENDS, todays era's got nothing on it!, Coming from a 13year old!!
I remember the first time i saw them on some obscure Glasgow cable channel in 89 and they blew me away...i'd already got into the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays.....great days to be 19...the young now have nothing in comparrison......fuckin X Factor ha !!!!
Only really got into this band after seeing the lasers and drum majorettes spectacular that was their headline appearance at Reading 1990. Was sufficiently impressed to see them again at my local sports centre the folowing April, a gig at which one of their roadies was that Mancunian bloke with the big eyebrows, little did I know at the time of course, or that he would name his band after said venue.
Great video. I love the way they float around in an orangey space and there's a drum floating around with them too, but it doesn't hit any of them. Pretty amazing video effects.
"It's just this fear, the fear I have to go about you" TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP Tune. Love it. Bad bad bad image though.... can't remember it looking so bad back then... maybe the nights at the Oak and Skyrack in Headingley may have somehow affected my perception.... :-) - Ooh, those were the bad mad days of Polytechnic life in the late 1980's early 1990's.
Well sed MG3AEH. Clint Boon once sed that the inspiral Carpets went around the world 6 times and sold millions of records worldwide but would never be as gud as the roses. They were far too modest.
Argubaly the best band of the Madchester era, although they never had the celebrated hedonsitic glory days like there contempories, the Roses, or the Mondays; they never failed to deliver a bad tune. While Ryder and co were coking it up down at the HAC, these guys were grafting there nuts off in the studio or touring relentlessly, the inspirals never got the recogniction they deserved.!

What an amazing blast from the past. Great, great song from a great, great band who definitly didn't get the recognition they deserved.

What's "nonce" and "murk"? Are the Inspiral Carpets popular in the UK? I've been a fan since 1990; many great bands are not appreciated in the US.
