this is so true , i was so down at 1 point i tried to take my life away , so glad i held on , my life is so good , every morning is the moring of my new kife i have now , and see , it so different , xx
I can listen to this for hours on end....the lyrics are just breath taking. Watching the three of them moving in such precise sync with one another is a perfect example of why they have been so successful!
Such a beautiful song. It is hard to believe they wrote it when they were "little kids." So sophisticated and deep for little kids. They spent their lives making us all happy. So sad that Maurice is gone now. All their songs are gifts we treasure.
I've decided that this is perhaps one of the most beautifully written songs I have ever heard and what a lesson these men are to everyone.......to be able to work so well and so intricately together to bring this song to life! From the way they step up to the microphone to the blending of their voices. If only all of life could achieve this tremendous balance. Gosh, I just love these guys! True harmony exists, we have but to listen!
A Guitar, a keyboard and some surrounding... and three wonderful voices, what more can ypo ask for.if you want to hear such a heartwarming, extraordenary music. Without a lot of technical help.
THE BEE GEES! They sing, they are artists, perfect, only a few are able to make the world become a dream!
If that is"Catterwalling" then I'd like more,dragontooth81, you pretentious dick. I don't have to defend the Bee Gees, their next six generations don't have to work if they don't want to but gee whiz, I think they are swell! Wait, let me pick up all those names you dropped on the floor to make you sound hip. Okay, you're a Bee Gees hater. That's cool,so don't listen to them? Yes this is a waste of time replying and no, I don't have time to do this shit but I do.
OMG.. I'm falling asleap.. I'll never make this mistake again.. I only listened because I watched a faith no more video cover of a Bee Gees tune called.. "I started a joke" These guys sucked ass juice 30 years ago and now, I still cringe at their spine grating girly voices... How can anyone like guys that sound like chicks when they sing..... Devo put out better music than this tedious humdrum Barney the dinosour puddle of gooo
@dragontooth81 , You have no sense of what is good. The Bee Gees are the greatest group. Harmonizing, great lyrics and voices of angels. You shouldn't bother to listen to something that is too good for you and beyond your comprehension.
@kira8561 I listen to everything from Mozart and Paganini to Maria Callas singing Puccini's
"Oh mio babbino caro" or Mario Lanza singing "Vesti la Giubba" Listen to that if you want to hear what talent is! Barry White, Etta James, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Faith no more, Disturbed, The Melvins, etc.. I could go on for ever, but the Bee Gees was some of the worst catterwalling I ever heard affront my ears in my life time. I'd rather listen to Sined Oconnor squak than the Bee Gees giggling tunes.
If anyone care to know or remember, this song is taken from the movie" Melody Fair" released in 1971. Saw the Bee Gees twice, once in 1971 and 1973 in Kua Lumpur.
One of the greatest bands of all time but sadly since the demise of Maurice Gibb, the group has been inactive. Hope they will reform minus Marice sometime in the future.
This is such a beautiful song but it makes me think of my husband who passed away. He was only 40 and taken way to soon and unexpectedly. We had great respect for one another and a wonderful marriage. I guess this song reminds me of what I am missing. I loved and adored this man and I miss him even more. They say time heals, but then, they didn't know my husband.:( Maybe one day I can hear this and the sadness will be gone. I can only hope.
@Msdistarr I don't know you but my heart goes out to you, I only know one thing & that is that you will meet again. I'm not a churchy type person, but I had an experience after my father in law died & I can't explain it but he came through me to my wife & said they would meet again. I was afraid of dying up to that point in my life, but immediatly after that I had no fear. I hope this brings you some comfort all the best.
@engineers1969 Thank you. I sure hope your right. I don't know what to believe in any more. I went to church when I was younger, at my mom's request, but I am no longer an active member of the church and haven't been for some time. I was so angry at god for taking such a good person away from, not only from me, but from his friends and family. I wish I had the absolute faith that you seem to have. I just don't know how to find it. That would surely make this a little more bearable.
@emeraldfrog1 Thank you for taking the time to send a few words. Even though we have never met, it means a-lot to me. Crossing paths with a kind person, however that may be, helps me more than you know. Thanks again.
@Msdistarr Iam sorry to hear abot your husband I to lost mine at 47 and like you he was my world. The bee Gee's song's got me through the heartbreak of losing such a wonderful soul mate and this song I dedicated to him. The Bee Gees are wonderful together and always will mean so much to all their fans.I wish you the very best.
@libby5358 I am so truly sorry to hear of your loss. When you have married your best friend and had a great marriage, it makes it that much harder. And that, I completely understand. But it sounds like you have found your light at the end of that never-ending black tunnel. I know there will always be a part of you missing as they take a piece of us with them when they go. I stay hopeful. I wish for you, peace of heart and mind. Take good care.
saw the film in about 70 71 whilst at school and decided to skip school and watch SWALK Only recently realised that it was a BEE GEE song Great times Thanks for the post
Harmony at its best. It was like Breathing to them. It so sad at the death of Maurice. Still love the writing style and music. A talent that will never be duplicated. I was also glad to see them inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
never knew this song existed before today...i cannot stop listening...how does a 14 yr old know about shifting sands...barry is truly gifted...as are all the gibb children..R.I.P. maurice and andy...you are together again
I have loved this song since I first heard it on an Esther and Abbi Ofarim album my aunt gave to me when I was living in Germanyin the sixties. It still brings tears to my eyes.
Remarkable insight for boys so young as they were, 14 and 11, to write lyrics such as these.
It was one of my wife's favourite songs. Worse, last month, my 20-yr old son who's quite musical, took out his guitar and sang it. He was desperately upset to see me in tears.
It left me trying to explain the numinous power of music, the way it breaks right past all our conscious barriers and opens the deeper emotions we keep locked up inside.
It's good to have a damned good cry every so often.
@Limpandtotheleft So true and thank you for that personal experience...I believe that will hit home will millions of people in the world. If the experience happens to be caught on tape...please let me know or post it...I would love to share in the moment.

Question... sorry if this has been answered... too many pages. lol I was recently at a David Gray concert and he did this song. I had never heard it before and was blown away. Who is the original performer of this... anyone know??

Please, somebody bring all this talent and beauty back. We need this kind of peaceful music in our lives to calm us, to take our minds off of this world we live in. . . . . .
@aiken1: I miss Maurice and Andy also. sometimes tragedies happen in life. But that doesn't make sense of the pain. I pray for the other brothers. They contributed so much.
You would have to be out of your mind not to love this song! Wow, This is pure talent at its best. A guitar and three fantastic singers. Thanks gferdin for uploading this ..the sound is incredible. I have my 18 year old daughter listen to this song everyday hoping she'll eventually get off her rap kick.
Don't worry, she'll come around eventually. I went through similar phases before at 25, coming to appreciate the music of my parents'. To be truthful, the Bee Gees are about the best harmonic trio out there. I hate making contemporary comparisons, but people who appreciate Rascal Flatts will find the Bee Gees to be a quick love (perhaps vice-a-versa). There is little more lovely than the harmonic voices of brothers singing together. Trust me, she'll realize this one day.
@1933goudey try the version of david gray, kt tunstal and ray lamontage, it will blow your mind as well... and it much better,, it always brings me to a different place when iam listening to their version
Hola, apenas hace tres horas estaba viendo y escuchando otra vez este concierto. Fué y es extraordinario. Interpretaron las melodías mas famosas y hermosas y..............Andy estuvo también con ellos.
@ReadeRomke JUST RIGHT !! ( from holland too) fck to al that crap programs the broadcast on mtv and tmf. bee gees, golden earring and mucis like that !
I felt the same way too. It was one of the very few unknown films which have an impact on so many of us. It was very popular in Asia and South America.
WOW ... what a cool song .. I had no idea they wrote this when they were kids. Y'all are right when you say that God gave them such beautiful talent even as kids.
so nice harmony!

1933goudey 2 years ago 60
Don't worry, she'll come around eventually. I went through similar phases before at 25, coming to appreciate the music of my parents'. To be truthful, the Bee Gees are about the best harmonic trio out there. I hate making contemporary comparisons, but people who appreciate Rascal Flatts will find the Bee Gees to be a quick love (perhaps vice-a-versa). There is little more lovely than the harmonic voices of brothers singing together. Trust me, she'll realize this one day.

@1933goudey try the version of david gray, kt tunstal and ray lamontage, it will blow your mind as well... and it much better,, it always brings me to a different place when iam listening to their version
idilali 1 year ago
@idilali It's a nice version but not better than the Brothers Gibb version.

@1933goudey
maybe you should try the 'new york mining desaster'... it fits better to rap

This song is included in the '70s film Melody (SWALK) along with other heartfelt melodies that haunted me long after I'd watched the film

Very good memory Wolf. I saw the movie so many times I can remember the dialogue by heart. The movie sure left an impression that one keeps forever.

I felt the same way too. It was one of the very few unknown films which have an impact on so many of us. It was very popular in Asia and South America.

WOW ... what a cool song .. I had no idea they wrote this when they were kids. Y'all are right when you say that God gave them such beautiful talent even as kids.
