love watching your videos, I have only become interested in the railways within the past year since commuting on them everyday to work. You have quite a few older videos so it's nice to see how ti once was
Yeah fair enough, electricity isn't massively clean in all areas but it is considerably cleaner than diesel. Also, the trains themselves are quietier and actually have quicker acceleration and top speeds.
For now. But in future then renewable sources could be used. Plus they use less energy than a diesel would (they are lighter because they don't carry their fuel or generator with them), and they are more powerful.
Unbelievable stupidity! The whole fucking point of electricity is you don't have to carry the power plant around with you, this makes an awful difference with a train where mass and size are key factors. Also a larger power station is much more efficient and cleaner than a smaller one. Grow up!
He has got a point though. Electric trains may be more efficient but it's not as if they still aren't causing pollution - the power does have to come from somewhere as rightly stated. Then you've also got to consider the substations that will have to step down the electricity, they cause pollution, noise and take up space.
@SPTSuperSprinter156 The substations get carried around with diesels. With regenerative braking the substations also feed back power to the grid. That goes for some dc substations, too. Electric is the way to go: Just our silly politicians who have stood in the way. They are the Private Schultz's of technology ("I know nothing").
Sigh, it is still economically and environmentally more efficient than having diesel engines inside the locomotives. Also, in the long term, electricity production will no doubt be the preserve of fission, fusion, and wind/solar energies - none of which produce carbon dioxide.
The Reason it put the brake's on is that a little further down the line, at Helpston, the wire's end on the line the 92 is on (Stamford Line) and there are point's where (to carry on north) it has to slow down to between 20-30 m.p.h (not quite sure what is is). Nice to see a 92 though, they're quite rare to see on the East Coast Main Line.

True, and electic powered trains are quieter as well. And they're cheaper and greener in the long run.

OLE = AWFUL! Why in G-ds name the Western region wants this crap I can't imagine!
eastindiaman 2 years ago
Probably because its more efficent, greener, faster, modern and electric trains have more power. Abit of a no-brainer realy!

Umm, and WHERE and HOW do you think these 'wonderful' 'green' electrics get thier power?
FROM BLOODY COAL AND OIL POWERED GENERATING STATIONS MORON!

@cjmillsnun but they havent got the tractive effort of a diesel, infact the class 70 uses less energy that the 92.

Class 92s are definately under used on the ECML. Much more powerful than 66s and 67s too.
