hi mate i was wondering if you could help me.ive got a transit n reg which ive just put another engine out of a w reg and my van has immobilised itself how do i wire it to bypass as it turns over but wont start unless i spray easy start....hope you can help
Don't know how i've only manages to see this now it's savage. has it gone into a van by this stage? Just finally got hold of another sierra 1.8td the other day after abotu 4 years of a wait. Has what i think is a T4 on it (not actually properly checked it out.)
hi, you just maybe the man to help me! in the next week I’m swapping the engine out of a 95 transit with the banana non turbo engine to a 99 turbo engine!! now will it be more or less straight forward swap or will it be a pain in the arse? some1 has said something about it needing a ECU conversion as-well as the intercooler & oil cooler! the oil & intercooler i can deal with if needs but not sure about the ECU bit, do i need to sort this?
@carswesty Your easiest option is to bin the ECU and Lucas injection pump. Use the Bosch injection pump and pipes from the banana engine and use the rest of the gear from the turbo engine which includes the oil cooler. Most of them did not have an intercooler. The EGR butterfly flap should be held open with a cable tie.
@rsturbojet thanks! do i have to swap injector pump just because 1 is better than the other or do i need to do it to get rid of the ECU? has believe it or not the turbo engine is brand spanking new with only 1200 miles on it,been in a garage since 1999 on a pallet but its just complete engine on other bit so i have to souce them!!!
@jaggass Yes so long as the timing belt is changed regularly and you are not relying on the Lucas EPIC injection pump, they are rock solid. There is a rare differential with better gearing
@jaggass I think it's a reliability thing, since all the components are heavier, this Di block is gonna be pushed to the limit, to 6000rpm or more. The TD is quieter because of the lower compression and the turbo quietens it a bit more
@m98m99 The engine number on later models is to the left of the oil filter or on the exhaust side at the front near the timing belt cover for earlier models

Overall it's pretty straight forward

oh i see. The 2.5 DI/TDI is highly reliable engine. The 2.5tdi tranny is quick but the gearing limits its speed.

I dont understand why manufactuers limit the rpm of a diesel. Even at full rpm its uses less fuel than a petrol engine.

In the van the 2.5TDI its much quiter than the di.

I removed the LDA lever, removed the governor spring and max fuel increased

What did you do to the injection pump? :P
