We have these guys out here in AZ too. They look similar, but not nearly as chubby. They're usually in a pair, but I've had up to a group of 6. When they get spooked, they run away and make this "whooooooooo" noise, but always come back.

Wow, I live here in the US and have never been lucky enough to see a quail. I'm so happy there are some left! They are so cute, I like how the feather sticks out of their head. You are fortunate to live there, thanks for sharing!
