So did they change the show so that Sweeney slits Mrs. Lovett's throat at the end instead of pushing her in the oven? I'm just asking because of the whole red moment.
I saw it about a month ago, he doesn't say that. Lovett just says "He was clutching onto my dress but now he's finished" then Sweeney discovers the beggar woman. They just cut that "Open the doors!" line completely
Call me a snob, but I much prefer the theatre version to the movie, I think, with regards to the singing. I haven't had a chance to see the movie, but the clips I have heard sound a bit weak. Give me Angela & George any day!
the revival sounds like actors at a demo session

Yeah, the revival didn't have an oven. Or a barber chair for that matter. Very minimalistic. So Sweeney just stabs her multiple times with the razor.

If there was no chair then did Sweeney say something different from "No one's in the chair! Come on! Come on!" in Epiphany?
sdrhead 3 years ago
No, he said "No one's in the chair! Come on! Come on!". He still said it.

And what did she open when Sweeney said "OPEN THE DOORS I SAID!!!"?
I'd like to see it. I adore this. First was the movie, but it was very quickly overshadowed by the 1982 version.

I feel sorry for him too, but I really wish he could love Ms. Lovett too. Dammit...no one can be happy in a Sondheim musical.
