hi i was jus wondering if this is considered a past perfect...'When the above- mentioned had been captured and the rest had all disappeared, Mark and his companions we placed in safe custody" - How can i prove that this is a past perfect. I no that three actions took place, one individual was captured in the past, secondly the rest disappeared ..the last action is that mark and his ppl are in safe custody. How do i go about explaining that this sentence is past perfect. plz and thank u
I thank God that I am from an english speaking ethnicity. As I see how these foreigners struggle with their speech and with everyday sentences that we Americans and English speaking peoples take for granted, that makes me appreciate being from an english speaking background, which is an element of my life that I had never really weighed on the balances of life before now. Good luck people, English is one of the hardest languages to learn, or so I have been told.
Does the present perfect tense work differently in American English compared to all other ways of speaking English?.....I'm referring to the channel name!
@SauronsEye -- Good question. There are some slight differences in the choice of past participles. For example, Americans choose "gotten" and the British choose "got" as the past participle for "get." The pronunciation, of course, is different. The application of the present perfect tense should be about the same.
you have to go to his website, this videos are good but the website it has everything you need to learn english, he is so good i can't belive is free, thank you so much profesor.
Hi, these videos are very good for me. I´m from Slovakia, and I´m learning english. (But I´m interesting about american english:) ) But We have learned in the school this - Example: ,,She has ate breakfast.,, And here is ,,She has eaten breakfast" Why?
There are three possible uses for the present perfect: 1. to describe the passage of time from a moment in the past up to the present; 2. to describe something that happened many times in the past; 3. to describe something that happened in the past but without identifying exactly when the event occurred.
Yes, this is confusing, but the present perfect is one of the most important tenses to master. Go to my website for more practice (Yellow Level) I'm out of space here.
thanks

The form of this verb is not the challenge for learners, but rather when they should use it and why.

@bluerose922 - Hi. There both okay and just about the same. Using "in" might sound a little like a longer-term visit compared to "to."

Hi, Mr. Teacher. I have a question about the "FUTURE SI,PLE PERFECT" can you tell me if one or any of my sentences are wrong?
THE FILL WILL HAVE STARTED BY THE TIME WE GET THERE
THE FILL WON'T HAVE STARTED BY THE TIME WE GET THERE.
WILL THE FILM HAVE STARTED BY THE TIME WE GET THERE?
THE GUY WILL HAVE DIED IF WE DONT' GET THERE SOON.
THE COMPUTER WON'T HAVE CRASHED IF WE RUSH TO FIX IT.
WILL THE LIGHT Have COME BACK BY THE TIME WE GET HOME?
lokuazaz 1 year ago
@lokuazaz The first sentence is in the future perfect tense.
The second, also, is in the future perfect tense.
The third, a question, is future perfect, also.
The fourth, if it were constructed properly, would be a past perfect tense, "The guy would have died if we had not arrived when we did."
The fourth is past perfect.
The fifth is in the form of a question and is in the future tense.

when do we use this tense? Is it now or past?
tweetyist 2 years ago
generally we use this tense in 3 situations:
1: an action done in the past with NO definite time.
2: an action started in the past and this action is still happening in the present
3: an action finished recently and the result(s) of the action can be seen in the present

"She has ate breakfast" is totally wrong. "Ate" is the past tense form of "eat." You have to use the past participle: "eaten."

What about the time period for Present Perfect?
One website says the Present Perfect takes place between the past and now
This is confusing.
