Thanks Rocket. My favourite Bopper track is 'Crazy Love', great western sound on that. J.P. could sing real nice when allowed to. I'm sure it's on the Tube somewhere.
I played the clickity-clackety Fenderbass on this. There's a double-bass on there too played by my old buddy, Kenny Lavish. Too much bass is just enough! Glad you like it.
Lots of others to thank for this effort- Jaymz Denning on lead vocals, Donal Donnelly on tenor sax, Richard Blanchard on piano, Paul Docherty on drums, Kenny Lavish on double bass, Shuie on Fenderbass.
Recorded at the wonderful Riverside studio in Blackpool (all ribbon mic's and valve equipment) with some dubs at Shu-Sonic (LOL)
Pity you're too young to know what a ribbon mic is. Oh, well.
ribbon mics always make music played from this era so much more authentic! i've got a buddy who plays in a rockabilly band and that's all they use to record! tell the lads that they did a smashing job on this one! the drums even sounds 50s-ish! :D
Jeff, those darn ribbons really are the key- figure8 pattern and so fragile. This song was played so quietly that you could have a polite conversation over the rocking mayhem! Those old records were played quietly- it's the micing that makes them sound loud and crunchy. Glad you enjoyed it!
yeah it's amazing how times have changed and the mentality is "louder is better" when it comes to studio stuff. i've played drums on a few sessions where i came out with "blisters on my fingers" as Ringo said. i often think they should've stopped advancing some recording technology in 1968 but maybe that's just my ears and my tastes in music?
Guys like Earl Palmer, Gene Ridgio, Jerry Allison, D.J. Fontana tickled in the studio. It takes more control, as I'm sure you know from experience, to pocket the pulse at a light touch. It sure is worth the effort though to try to get it. Play soft, overload the desk and for heaven's sake don't sneeze!!

We tried really hard to get the sound and the atmosphere as close as we could. Jaymes did a great job with the vocals, I think . So glad you like it.
