  • Jan Peerce did it MUCH better.More power.More exhilaration.

  • Beautiful!

  • This is a rare moment I see Placido singing with excitement and joy in his eyes, face and voice, Magnificent!!! I love his way of playing the role of Prof. Higgins especially in spanish.....Bravo, Mr. Placido Domingo....muchas gracias.

  • Hermoso

  • my favorite version of this!!! oHh YeahhH!

  • disgusting conductor licking his lips at 2:07. Gross.

  • @WorldCupSeoul Your comment made me LOL big time. But yeah, that was gross.

  • just awful. no sense of tempo. he's all over the place. and he's out of tune often. this is just horrible.

  • @WorldCupSeoul He is never out of tune during this rendition. What are you talking about? WHERE SPECIFICALLY is he out of tune? Maybe your ears are out of tune.

  • Stick to the spanish and it is perfect. I am 17 and if my friends knew I listened to opera I would never live it down. I love the perfection, the true beauty and the passion of the opera greats ( Pavarotti, domingo, kraus, bjoerling, and caruso.)

  • i WISH i WERE ON THAT STREET. SIGH...

  • Bravo Plácido. Olé, Olé y Olé.

  • Most romantic song ever... <3

Bravo Sr.Domingo!

What a detail! singing the melody in english, then in spanish. Bravo Sr. Domingo!

Sehr Nett!! Er singt englisch und dann auf spanisch. Wunderbahr Herr Domingo!!

  • Dear Placido. Singing is what you can do best. Why don't you just sing?

  • @das0448 Absolutely. And I was not saying that I prefer this version to the original rendition. The guy who sings this on the original Broadway cast album is wonderful. I was just saying that I like this rendition. Some people don't because they don't like Placido's pronunciation of the English or other aspects of it, but I like it, especially the Spanish version.

  • Visit my page to listen me singing this song!!!

  • Young people tend to love songs they can sing, or being accustomed to. Songs sung by tenors or sopranos are what they dislike, except those who appreciate the talents, the art of very high technical skills they simply cannot do.

  • @1515cc15 Although I certainly cannot sing this song or any any song as well as Placido Domingo, this song does not require a great voice to just casually sing while driving in the car, etc. So, the average singer or below average singer can sing this song. So why not like this song as well as, if not better than, "Happy Birthday to You", "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", etc.?

  • @ChicagoSouthDan It seems that you can sing pretty well yourself. Yes, this song does not require a great tenor voice to sing, somehow like Maria or Tonight. I think this song could be popular should it have been featured as a remade movie today, I believe, there are still young peoples who appreciate and love such romance.

  • @1515cc15 Actually, I'm young and I love this song and I do sing it even though I do not have an operatic voice, I can sing it just fine. I don't think the only options are being able to sing it and therefore like it, or not being able to sing it and subsequently dislike it. I simply love the lyrics and melody.

  • @EAlexandra73 You are right, there is no option being able to sing it or not once you love the lyrics and melody. That's why it's classic. The song survives decades and I hope it will last a century because the movie has been classic. We still love Madame Butterfly, and in a more tender mood, the Sound of Music for instance. You are young with good taste eventually.

  • BRAVO Senor Domingo!

  • This video illustrates one of the problems with youtube. It is viewed primarily by young people rather than older folks in their late 50s, like me. Therefore, Placido gets about 74,000 views, but the Miley Cyrus video ("Can't be Tamed" I think it's called) gets over 45,000,000 views. Oh well.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan

well said ' i remember this on TV many years ago and i'm a big opera and Domingo fan .Young folk have poor taste

  • @caldertkd I'm sure a lot of older folks felt the same way when they heard my friends and me listening to the Motown Sound of the 1960s. But in addition to listening to My Girl by the Temptations, I also listened to stuff like this.

  • @caldertkd Hey - some of us don't!

  • @tpsabres i didnt mean all young folk, my mistake for not making that clear. sorry if i caused any offence

  • Wonderful!!! What a great performance.

  • @kingsown88 YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

  • He looks much better without the beard.

  • @JuanMacready I bet you want to jump his bone

  • omg!! he is wonderful *.* placido went to my city and I didn´t care , what the hell I was thinking??

  • Yep, the spanish part is great!

  • with that voice and those sexy gestures he can actualy take any woman he likes to bed

  • Got to love how excited he is in telling his attachment to this tune. Started his career!

  • His accent makes the first part unconvincing but his spanish rendition is off the charts romantic.

  • Totally n Love XXX

    Jo

  • Bravo Bravo Bravissimo

  • Marvelous!!!

  • Far better than Bill Shirley's version.

  • Me encanta. Muy bueno. ¡Cómo canta este hombre!

  • Nat King Cole and Dean Martin have great versions too.

  • glorious! particularly the spanish!

  • the best ever singer of this song was,,,,my old dad.rip Tommy

  • Bravo, Señor Placido. Bella interpretacion!! Beautiful interpretation of this beautiful song from my youth.

  • I love this:) He's so charming and adorable!!!!

  • How could you not love this rendition of a powerful song by one of the greatest tenors of all time?

  • @KENZOWAL Mario Lanza was greater.

  • I'm an opera lover. Of course I love Domingo.

Is he the "best" person to sing "On the Street Where You Live?"

    Not necessarily.

But he is so charming, and his intimate, conversational approach is so interesting, especially with his Spanish rendition, it's marvellous.

  • MAGNIFICO!

  • ONLY FAIR LADY ON MY STREET IS ME LOL!

  • Love this song. <3

  • I love this. Wonderful. Tom

  • Domingo is so lovely, and this concert is fantastic have you got more from it?

The other song from this concert Bella enamorada is marvellous too, I wish I'd be there!!!

  • He is adorable. What a charmer!

  • Madame butterfly

  • What?

  • Ah, Si! Soy Madame Butterfly, La Senora Mariposa. : )

  • Realmente extraordinario....

  • i was writing all sorts of judgemental crap... then the spanish hit :D

  • I am singing this song in my jazz choir and was wondering if someone could give me some advise I got a duet.....need advise lol

  • why is he constantly looking down? Lyrics not memorized?

He sang it better in Spanish, less clowning around.

Still, the orchestra just seemed to play on it's own, with no dynamic changes, like a broken record.

No, not worth attending to this concert.

    Mario!

    Hey Mario!

    Wherever you are!

Please, come and teach this man how to PERFORM this song!

  • Yes, I wish he had sung it all in Spanish. He says it's a return to his youth, and that's probably the language he sang it in then, right?

  • wow...one of my favorites sung by Domingo. Thanks for posting.

  • Am I wrong or am I right? Most of the time the singing is not in pace with the orchestra?

  • you're wrong :)

  • I understand what you're saying. however if you listen to the movie version of the song it seems like that too :)

  • This song is all about the singer. The singer can take his time if he likes.

  • I LOVE this song, and I LOVE how he sings it!!!!

  • What a talent. He is certainly a pleasure to hear.

  • Ah! I would love to have the Spanish lyrics for this. But I can't find them anywhere.

  • I know the whole song in Spanish

  • Verdad? Dame!

  • What an amazing voice he has.

  • Ilove the song. It's heart warming. Thank you for posting it.

  • omg... amazing!

  • Tempo was a bit too fast and a few of his vowels were wrong, not too mention his forte was a bit to sharp, but besides that, it was wonderful!

  • Mr.GrammerMan I think you mean "not TO mention"

and please listen to the super exceptional voice forget about accent defects . . .

  • Hahaha lol. Domingo bashing? I agree A7madeus. Big deal if he has an accent. I personally think the accent makes it sound even sweeter on top of the amazing voice.

  • what are you talking about?

do you realy know who Placido Domingo was?

  • I love Domingo. He really knows how to sing. If there was a Spanish recording of "My Fair Lady" made, He should be in it

  • I love the song from My Fair Lady, but Placido makes it sound all the sweeter. Spanish and Italian are great languages for songs like that.

  • Absolutely brilliant! What I would have given to have witnessed that audition! Just to have seen the faces of the auditioners would have been wonderful.

A lovely song which means a lot to me and Placido chose it for his first operatic audition! Bravisima!!

Thank you so much for psting this.

  • Does anyone have the Spanish Lyrics to this song or know where to get them? I'd love to sing this in Spanish.

    ....

    ....y llego a su balcón

Es el corazón quien me trae aquí

ES aquí donde vive mi amor

Por primera vez me parece ver

que los árboles florecen en invierno así

Al llegar aquí ha salido el sol

Es aquí donde vive mi amor

    Sentir...

  • Thank you for posting these.

  • Sing, Placido. You are perfect.

  • He good !

  • A tape with this concert was one of my first tapes with Placido - so it is sweet to see it again :-) Thank you!
