Concerning the movement(s) in Japan, if you or any of other readers should have any info, please leave a comment with contact info. (はい確かに私はいくつかの日本語を知っている).
I also know that the Burakumin (部落民) are also suffering something horrible in regard to societal rejection and discrimination.
The name sounds familiar, David Oaks. I might have met him along with some other activists to whose names have long escaped me.in Cambridge with the MPLF group back in 1976 proper. (I lived at that time for a short time on Medford St. in Somerville, if that should jog ones memory).
Now, I practically shouted "So desu ka!" when I heard there is also a movement in JAPAN! Being part Japanese myself, and also knowing of our society which is so conformist (though polite, and civil) .
Mad also means angry about this abominable situtaion, don't forget the righteous anger aspect of mad. I don't like the association mad with legitimately dangerous or unproductively bizarre actions, even endangering the author of them. This video is good and well-done, thanks David. More good stuff to come. Recovery is not only possible but even likely or inevitable as one plumbs the depth of resources available, like nutritional regeneration of healthy brain function, outdoor activity, etc
Nice one, David. Just because someone puts a label of "crazy" on us does not make us less human, and therefore does not remove our rights as humans. Preaching to the choir, I know, but we need a louder choir!
I don't see anything to be proud of in having had panic attacks. The mental health system is startlingly abusive and exploitative, that much is obvious. M/h organisations are mostly shity but suffering is shity too.
Yes, thyroid disfunction can cause "mental illness" symptoms, so can many, many other physical conditions!!!! Nutrition, exercise, sleep, rest, pollution, gmo-foods, junk-food, caffeine, stress, noise, all can play a part in "mental illness." Nobody in the "INDUSTRY" will bother asking you about all these things. They just want you to be their slave!
GO DAVID OAKS! "Mental illness" is a lie. I was diagnosed schizophrenic and i had a spirochete infection creating MS symptoms. i NEEDED ANTIBIOTICS not antipsychotics.
Do you believe in physical illness? You may have a rationally constructed case for rejecting the concept of mental illness while perhaps accepting neurological illness. One could argue that there is no such thin as illness of any sort, that they everything is naturally occuring. The issue of pathologizing and non-pathologizing viewpoints is important.
Good point. Physical Illness, like say migrane's Is considered an illness. However a Dr. cannot force someone with a migrane into an institution against their will. a Dr. also cannot force them to take drugs/meds. And why would they? A person with migrane does not threaten the social order. Anyone with any kind of nonconformist behavior can be labeled "mentally Ill"
some types of contradictions are positive others are negative...some are neutral...contradiction are just a natural aspect of reality...someone may contradict themselves...but it doesnt contradict their principle...some times a person may seem to contradict themselves...but they may actually discussing aspects of reality that operate under different contexts or share similar characteristics to a certain degree..Good Job David Oaks!
Listen to the man. One moment he tells us we're not just chemicals and electricity. Next moment psychiatric drugs are just fine so long as one "chooses" them. A total contradiction. Oaks promotes a lash up of meaningless jibberish that ignores the fundamental lie of "mental illness".
I think David is trying to be diplomatic. But I agree with you, the concept of mental illness is lie. Or i should say an invention, a tool to be used for social control
your voices and delusions are not a "mental Illness" And why are you using the psych terms voices and delusions. Try saying I hear things other people don't hear. I believe things that are considered unusual. Just changing the way we talk about these issues can change the way we think about them.
There is an unofficial Mad Pride in Brazil.

I've underestimated David Oaks; my life circumstances
do confirm the unexpected risks of oppression anyone with even
a slight diagnosis has in his medical record.
