I also agree with our distinguished German colleague Mr. Einwegspritze's comments " schwarzer Seele!" Einfach super!!! " - I think that this speaks for us all.. . :)
@ty3165 Certainly not him singing. He never could quite lose that white middle class English inflection! For me, like John Mayall he was a great ambassador for the blues, rather than a great performer in his own right.
@PAULOcbi I'm simply saying that this is a blues staple which practically every blues band had/has in their repertoire inc. Van Morrison. So you (and others) start making a list. What's your point?
@andydemp evryone is aware of this ,but you go around acting like this piece of info is lost on evryone else ,I simply mentionen Van `cos his version is quite good, yes I know thers millions of versions ,so does evryone else ,(and not from looking at wiki either, lol) g`day
what a number! agreed this is a GEM alright. first heard in on an old decca records lp titled "Hard Up Heroes" some 30 years ago! unfortunately i lost it a few years later. never thought i'd be able to hear it again....blues at its best! thanks once again....you've amde my day!!!
I got an R n B compilation with Cyril Davies Allstars playing Someday Baby . . . . . its tidy, he played with Lord Sutch's Savages and had Long John Baldry in the line up . . . .
The EP you mention was called The Sound of Cyril Davies, issued 1964. It included the tracks Country Line Special, Chicago Calling, Preachin' the Blues, and Sweet Mary. Someone has already posted the first two tracks from a 45. Still waiting for the other two tracks....
1st track on "R&B at the Marquee" released 1962 at 21 shillings !
Dick Heckstall Smith on tenor sax, Cyril Davies on vocals & harmonica, Alexis Korner guitar, Graham Burbidge drums,Spike Heatley bass, Keith Scott piano.
@jofrad - Outstanding version, havn't heard it for 48 years. A question, was that Lonnie Donegan guesting on vocals for this track? It doesn't sound like Cyril. Lonnie used to drop in frequently. Was this released on the Pye Golden Guinea Records label (later Marble Arch Records)?
@Georgie2047, Definitely Cyril Davies on vocals, (check out the other tracks) I bought it on Decca's Ace of Clubs.
