Awesome video. What effect will this have (if any) with legitimate games that give a blinking light all the time? I tried replacing the 72-pin connector and still get the blinking screen. I was hoping it's possibly a lockout chip malfunction, which this mod would hopefully help me bypass. Any thoughts? Thanks!
@bigun89 Thanks for the reply! I guess my question shouldn't have been whether or not this will mess up the NES. It should have been "is there a chance I could solve the blinking light/screen issue by performing the lockout chip mod?"
The reason I ask is because the new 72-pin connector didn't seem to do the trick. Also, did you really mean to say that you haven't run into any games that work with the lockout chip enabled, or that u haven't run into any games that had issues with the mod? TY
@usafjetdriver Then probably disabling the chip would be a pointless venture. HOWEVER, go ahead and take it apart anyway (can't make it work less than what it is already), and look for anything obvious (swollen capacitors, burnt fuses, etc.)
ive fixed many nes consoles. but there are a few i cant figure out. I replaced 72 pin cleaned motherboard and game. Works fine on some nes. Other times i still get a red screen. Some ive tried i have no power at all what so ever. So what iam thinking is there has to be a way to fix the RF switch inside the console. I just cant find any video on it. And i dont know what to start.
This is a good idea, tried this on my NES today. Unfortunately the 4th pin broke off after I had soldered the wires in place and were about the reassemble it. So I just have to live without the possibility to switch the lockout chip on and off.
I disabled the chip on one of my systems. I did not add the switch but i left the pin bent so i could solder it in the future if needed. I have another project im going to work on. Im going to attempt to install a USB copynes for development reasons. This is totaly uncharted territory for me. I was wondering if you have ever installed one or have done similar IC extraction and installation work.
Just cut pin # 4. That will disable it permanently and is much easier to do.

@usafjetdriver I haven't ran into any games that work with the lockout chip enabled, so in theory no harm should be done.

@usafjetdriver Err yeah, the games seem to work just fine without the chip enabled. Between the blinks, is the game working?

@bigun89 Nope. :(

im confused why you can't send them back. maybe the person that send it to you would actually want it fixed and would pay for the shipping back

Very clear and well documented...even for someone like me with the attention span of a gnat (pronounced `nat`) good stuff tanks!
