  • Why not use an A319 it goes the farthest out of the A320, A319, & A318

  • @FS98FSX A318 is the only one capable of taking off and landing on such a short runway. Even the A318 cant take off from LCY with full tanks. This is why they refuel at Shannon airport in Ireland.

  • @FlyBritishAirways the A318 has a maximum range of 3,100 nmi (5,741.20 km) - the flight distance from Heathrow to JFK is 5,555 km (3,000 nmi).

  • So how is the plane specially configured to fly such a long route for such a normally short-range jet? I know it refuels in Shannon, Ireland but that's still quite a flight for the A318. What gives it such capacity?

  • @rockymountainrandom It is an all-business class configuration therefore giving it economic viability, and the a318 has a maximum range of 5,700 km which is within the distance between London and new York :)

  • @rockymountainrandom Small size, large wings (the wingspan is actually longer than the fuselage), and powerful and efficient engines give the A318 a remarkable range.

  • what a bumpy Landing!

  • how many passengers can a a318 hold?

  • Busy flight!

  • My wifw and I travelled on the LCY to JFK leg in March 2011. It was excellent. 32 seats, but only 12 passengers. 3 cabin crew who looked after us really well. We ordered lunch between take off and SNN. We cleared US immigration and customs at SNN. We then ate a perfect lunch with lots of champers loaded at SNN. It was the best Irish steak too. When we arrived at JFK we were classed as a US domestic flight, so picked up or bags and left! There is a dedicated BA lounge at LCY for this flight!

  • 2:05 - 2:06 lol

  • very cleaver idea

  • do you still have the Boeing 737-400's?

  • @SuperFlight88 Yes, they are still the largest 747-400 operator. I'm not exactly sure of the reason they use an A318 for this flight.

  • I wish BA would fly to BFS

  • That man is one lucky dude, all alone in the plane with the pilots in the cockpit and him sat down with all these lovely female cabin crew :) LOL

  • The reason why it stops off at Shannon is because a fully-fuelled A318 is unable to take-off at London City airport due to the short runway. Its not a problem on the inbound as nearly all the fuel is burnt prior to landing!

  • Can I have one?

  • Heh, despite its tiny size, the A318 is the largest commercial aircraft certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency for steep approach operations (5.5 degrees rather than the usual 3 degrees) as required by airports such as LCY. AFAIK, there aren't any 737's certified for such operations atm.

  • how come the a318 doesn't stop at shannon on the way back?

  • good stuff, i've never flown with BA will definitely check it out some day

  • If you're A318s stop at Shannon, than cross the Atlantic to JFK, shouldn't they be fitted with long haul product?

  • @superjta59

The reason the stop at shannon is because the runway at London City is to short to be able to start out with full fuel. If it were to take off at heathrow then it wouldnt need to refuel at shannon

  • Is the interior shown business class or economy?

  • The A318 is capable of flying direct from London City Airport to New York JFK, by the runway at London City is too short so it has to carry less fuel to take off and make a stop at Shannon for fuel whereas from New York JFK to London City Airport it carries maximum fuel and does not make a stop.

  • that lucky man gets the whole cabin to himself ................... i hope the scheme goes down better than that but seriosly thats one nice seat

  • Busy flight by the looks of it! Would love to fly in this level of luxury at some point. I'v never been out of cattle-class!

  • I love how people don't understand this: Yes an a318 does have the range to fly from London to NYC. To fly from London City is impossible however, because the takeoff weight is too much. Therefore they put in enough fuel to fly from London City to Shannon and then fuel up there to it's max, and then fly to JFK. On the way back however there are no stops.

  • @Misteroriginalvideos In fact, another reason why they use SNN (Shannon) is the fact you can "pre-clear" US Customs and Immigration at Shannon before flying on the USA. Therefore, when you land in the USA, you avoid the long lines for Customs and Immigration at JFK and leave the airport quickly.

  • where can i get tickets for these flights?

  • @tacotown7330 the ba website

  • So is this route supposed to be the replacement for the Concorde route?

  • @garlex134 yessir

  • london city seriously need to do a madeira airport type construction!! business in and out of central london from the usa and europe?? billion pound business deals done, back home 6 hours later!!

  • Does the A319 And The A320 Do the same?

  • Honestly...do you people really think that this would be an official BA video if it weren't true?!?!

I have flown this flight a few times and it is the best business class experience I have had on any airline on any flight! And I have flown in J over 200 times...

    And it's an A318 not A319! A lovely little plane :-)

  • BA, How popular is this route?

  • I think personally that Concorde should do this flight. But with like, an extended runway at London City. :D

  • @Appleshaz as the runway at JFK is longer it is able to carry more fuel. It can easily do a flight from EGLC-KJFK but as LCY has a short runway the Airbus a318 is unable to carry it's maximum fuel payload.

  • What the hell? An A318 can't fly form London City to JFK

  • @SingaporeAirflyer It refuels at Shannon airport on the London City JFK sector.

  • @FlyBritishAirways It doesn't refuel because of range issues it can go london to new york too it just refuels because if it were to go direct from london city airport to jfk it wouldn't be able to take of on london city's short runway.

  • @FlyBritishAirways plus it's an all business class config. inside the aircraft so it's total wight is reduced thus it has a greater range.

  • @FlyBritishAirways I saw it taxing at JFK and was like, wait a minute, that's a tiny plane. I later found out it's an all business class decked plane.

  • @SingaporeAirflyer Okey. But I thinks this is a bad aircraft to travel to JFK with.

  • @SingaporeAirflyer it's in all Business class configuration. It creates a "private plane" feeling...

  • @SingaporeAirflyer It actually can, with the reduced weight due to the 32 seats, and the small size of the plane make it flyable across the atlantic.

  • @SingaporeAirflyer of yourse it can... A318 is maybe one of the most underestimated planes. it could even fly nonstop from london to JFK, it only needs to refuel at shannon because of the short runway at london city.

from heathrow it could go non-stop to JFK.

  • Is this plane still flying to Newyork DIRECTLY from London? Man, it looks so impossible!

  • @JeanRobin20 nope, it stops in Shannon, Ireland for some more fuel and US Customs and stuff.

  • very cosy looking seats lolz :]

  • wow he's the only guy on the whole flight lol jk

  • how long is the lhr-nyc in a318?

  • @pio909 It is actually flys LCY-JFK and the route is about 7-7.5 hours

  • @pio909 *JFK

  • how long runway needed for the Airbus A318 at the time of takeoff and landing..

    thanks before..

  • it doesnt have to refuel it has a range of 3600 nautical miles

  • @boeingfan882 But London-City's airport is too short, so they carry less fuel = lighter aircraft. They don't do it on the JFK-LCY sector because JFK's runways are long

  • I really dont like the Exterior view of the A318, its so tiny...

  • WOW what a nice cabin for a A318!

  • @kekecom yes, it's British Airways new all bussiness class cabin service from London City Airport to JFK. bloody expensive though!

  • does it have personal tvs????

  • @mike1998ish Yes it has.

  • that's really cool

  • what the hell an A319 can fly all the way to JFK isnt it too small wudnt it run out of fual?

  • @charlieiscool1000 It refuels at Shannon airport on the outbound flight (London City to New York JFK)

  • @FlyBritishAirways does it refuel at shannon on inbound flight too?

  • @Hisyer as far as i am aware, no, because of the gulf stream giving a strong tail wind all the way back

  • @FlyBritishAirways Isn'y that only for safety reasons before crossing the Atlantic? It would actually be able to make it from London City to JFK without refueling right? :)

    Cheers

    -Tim

  • @7thcavalary

It would not be able to make it from London City to JFK, because it is not possible to start an a318 with full tanks at London City. The runway is to short. This is why it only has to refuel on the outbound flight. JFk's runway is long enough.

    Cheers from germany

  • @FlyBritishAirways Does it not have extra fuel tanks as well?

  • I was thinking that.....seems a heck of a long way to go...where is Shannon?

  • @charlieiscool1000 its actually an a318 much smaller than a319..

  • @charlieiscool1000 It's an A318

  • @charlieiscool1000 it's not an airbus A319.

  • @charlieiscool1000 A 737NG could easily do this flight , for example heathrow - JFK can be accomplished. the A318 like wise. It has to stop to refuall in shannon on the way to JFK because the plane needs less fuel in order to make it out of LCY without overshooting the runway. Its a full non-stop flight from JFK - LCY. hope that helps! :D

  • i still cant believe that the a318 can fly to jfk from the UK

  • damn i did not know the a318 could fly that far

  • me neither...

to me it still sounds strange, that they fly a long distance with the SMALLEST Airbus. ;)

    I know, just buisness class...

  • hardly any seats and passengers 33 2 be exact i coldnt believe it you can get it in business class 2( buy the plane)

  • its modified

  • Weird, creepy video showing a disastrous load factor. When I flew this service, the thing was full, and the product is sensational. It justifies the use of Concorde's flight numbers (BA1 and 3 out, 2 and 4 home).

So why the terrible video? I can see some fanboy making this, but BA? Wowee.

  • lol, looks like there's only 1 passenger aboard this flight.

  • I think i rather fly on the normal club class seats on the normal planes from Heathrow and use the lounge there, Whats the price?

  • ONLY £2623 one way, £5,245.20 return!!!! I'd still stick to Economy class!

  • I hope theese A318's arent over worked

  • They refuel at SNN.

  • where??

  • SHANNON

  • i didnt know that A318'S Could Fly that Far

  • Well with only 32pax and a shitload of fuel its not too difficult.

  • They refuel at ORK.

  • SNN

  • NO - shannon

  • Very noiice. :D

  • How sexy are british flight attendants?

  • they should make seats like those standard on all passenger airlines. I feel cramped when I fly for long hours.

  • A318 CAN FLY UP2 6-7HOURS :O

  • Hello!Nice videofilm of British Airways to JFK!=)Give you 5 star for the nice film!=)

    Greeting TheCARRE74.=)

  • i dont see seatback tvs

  • no - they are give IFE touchscreens after takeoff that can be hand-held, or clipped to a pull-out stand on the seat.

  • Nicely done but wish it showed more of the cabin service and JFK experience. Good luck with this new endeavor!

  • Nice, I'm planning to use this service next year, I absoloutly can not wait! At least some airline are doing this properly ulike some *Ryanair cough*

  • looking good BA!

  • Great job British Airways! Your liverie looks very nice on the A318 and I like the all buisness class layout!

  • great video =)
