1. government could potentially block other content, which is legal;
2. it slows down internet speed.
If 1st scenario I mentioned were to happen, people would notice it really fast and would not let that continue. So only thing in question is, if it really does slow down the internet speed. That is Conroy's word against that other guy's. Simple test period would solve that problem. I don't get why so many are so upset.

I don't get it. Only two reasons why this could be bad:
1. government could potentially block other content, which is legal;
2. it slows down internet speed.
If 1st scenario I mentioned were to happen, people would notice it really fast and would not let that continue. So only thing in question is, if it really does slow down the internet speed. That is Conroy's word against that other guy's. Simple test period would solve that problem. I don't get why so many are so upset.

I stopped watching TV a while back, and I gotta say I'm impressed with TEN. I don't remember them ever giving this much in-depth attention to the issues of the day when I gave up on the box.
I think Conroy does raise some legitimate concerns. I'm not sure about the method in which he's dealing with them, but I'm contacting him with my own suggestions.

Instead of using a golden wall around australia 'protecting australia from child pornography' and such, i think it would be a more realistic metaphor to use a simple wooden sheep fence. One that you can go through if you want to put in a little effort, and one you can jump right over if you're up to it - not the hardest thing. More of a suitable metaphor to what is supposedly 'blocking' us from these nasties on the internet, when it's really just a miniature speed bump.

I just love that he says that the system is 100% accurate through the filter. That is simply BULLSHIT. The DET filter internet(which even blocks youtube) still has pr0n.
He also has apparently never heard of latency, this filter will murder online gaming (a few milliseconds of latency fucks with online gaming and with latency already averaging 50-100ms, any more and the games will be unplayable. And they are excluding high traffic websites.....fuck net neutrality.

If "high-traffic" websites are given priority, it means that highly influenced and managed, professional websites will be secure and given priority.

It will eventually grow to stop people that say "offensive" things about the government and members of parliament. And before we know it, we'll be like a slightly less intense version of China. But the government wont give the public the sites that are blacklisted? There is no harm in listing the sites for us if they are blocked, if anything it would encourage those wanting these RC/X to create a new site, hence if the filter is indeed working. will block these sites also.
