The "private eye" is a reference to The Elephant Man, I think. Which is still weird because I think that his story is more of a tragedy than a horror story.
What I find funny is how a game this Japanese didn't even get released there. Oh sure, it was intended for Japanese release, and there were even prototype, but as far as official releases go it was U.S. only.
This game Planned to be a yery bloody and Gore game, what released in Japan and America and uses a lot of well known monster from movies.
but a the end, i got extreme censored, the japanese release was cancelled ( it exist japanise Beta for expensive prices ) and removed some monster because bandai dosn´t have the rights
Also it exist a group who tries to bring this US Game to his orginal Beta Form
Get this: Monster Party... was NOT released in Japan. It was supposed to be, and was even featured in Japanese magazines at the time. A prototype was found, but ended up being sold and is now missing again. It was originally called "Parody World Monster Party", which explains the game's... sensibilities.
this video provese that OBAMA HAS RUINED AMERICAS with libral spending on taxes budges stock market crashes he even gave MONEY TO THESE GAYS who are deestroying family with agendas and LIBERAL REDISSTRIBUSION OF WEALTH soon all families will be dead and obama wants no moms and dads according to shawn hannity STEM CELLS will be allowed and people can get extrar legs if they want it will be chaos VOTE NO FOR OBAMA also this video is fake
Good video, but your tolerance for Japanese weirdness is too low. This and "Momoko 120%" are normal compared to the likes of "Katamari Damacy" and "Parodius."; When playing games like those, the question isn't "Why?" the question is "Why not?" No offense, but you seem to know NOTHING about Japanese culture and humor.
BTW, the private eye turning into a elephant is a reference to the movie "Elephant Man"
@Dracomut It's true Momoko 120% isn't as strange, but I personally think Monster Party is far weirder than Katamari and Parodius.
It's also true I don't know a huge amount about Japanese culture (although saying I know NOTHING is pretty absurd) but I kind of look at these games from the perspective of a confused Westerner. Considering this game was released in North America and not Japan and was geared towards American audiences I think that's a fair perspective.
@WeirdVideoGames Thank you for clarifying your perspective, I agree that the reactions in this video would be one of a Westerner's first time playing "Monster Party" without any knowledge of it beforehand.
I apologize for assuming that you knew NOTHING about Japan's culture, that was very rude and unfair of me to say that.
@Dracomut There's a huge difference between Japanese culture and an Egyptian level filled with these kinds of bosses. That has NOTHING to do with Japanese culture.
@DerAlmighty I did not mean the levels themselves, but I was referring to the Japanese goofiness throughout the game. Japan has a very whimsical and random sense of humor and Monster Party shows it off perfectly.
Also, a few of the enemies in the game are loosely based off of monsters from Japanese mythology; most notably the umbrella bat.
@spartan117ak Though not anywhere near as weird as other media from Japan, Katamari is a very weird video game series. I personally think its weirder than Monster Party, though the King of All Cosmos is the main reason for that.
@spartan117ak I must say first game IS more tame compared to the later installments. The main characters seem to get more mentally unstable with each game...
@Dracomut Oh man. I was going to do a review on Katamari soon but now that I've read this comment, I now have to play all the Katamari sequels to be able to thoroughly examine the series. I figured the first game would have said it all.
But then that is a part of Katamari's charm, and it adds to the whimsical and simple gameplay. I highly recommend them, and I'm glad another one is being made.
A word of warning: the second game, "We Love Katamari", has some particularly frustrating levels mid-way through the game.
@spartan117ak Of course. Dracomut was just sharing his perspective. A lot of video makers out there are way too quick to jump down the throats of people who disagree with them. I welcome honest feedback.
@chriswrightmusic I only did the bad drawings (the wacky Japanese game developers, which are kind of a recurring gag). The rest were drawn by Ian at Vainglory dot CA. I highly recommend his awesome art style.
I'm playing this game, because is freaking wierd, and i like that
Well christmas is already close if you want to make a christmas weird game
But the only weird game about christmas that i play was the extrange santa game of genesis where you can0t turn into a bad santa by drink cofee ( i don't get that ) and you fight agaisnt frosty ( or jack frost i don't know )
Ps: i fight agains't constellation in contra hardcore of genesis ( the japanese version of course )
@WeirdVideoGames ty for the reply :D i feel special :D lol. Why havnt you done any newer games? (well, not specifically new, but, like. 2000?) or have you and i just missed it?
@WeirdVideoGames I saw this comment while the video was buffering and I started wondering why a random commenter was asking about your leg cramps or something.
I didn't enjoy this episode, due to the fact that you need to see this more as a joke than an actual horror. Plus how can't you see this as a joke with the silly dialogue? That's like giving Monty Python a deep analysis. "Why is there a documentary guy in medieval times" or "Why didn't the guy die when he got his arms and legs cut off" you get what I'm saying here?
@Brenman999 That's a valid point. I try not to review funny games for that reason. But for this one, I couldn't even be sure that it was supposed to be funny or why. It seems like they were trying to make a scary game but just gave up part-way through and turned it into a big joke and I can't wrap my head around why.
@WeirdVideoGames I agree with you. It really does seem like they were going for a scary game with a satirical twist. There's no way it was meant to be completely silly. I really enjoyed this review. Keep it up!
I love these videos immensely, and I've been a fan for a year. Only thing that could possibly make these videos better is a new HD camera you should get. Other than that, these are the best, and you should be getting a lot more views that you are right now.
