Ok so i cant change the visual effects from "none". it keeps saying that the effects can not be changed. could this be because i do not have a graphics card??

yes. my desktop doesnt have a graphics card either, so i cant change it there, but my laptop has ati hd radeon 3200, which is integrated graphics, and it works well with the "extra" visual effects

do you know what graphics chipset you have you have?
Intel and ati should be supported out of the box, for nvidia you need to run system->administration->"hardware drivers" and install the nvidia drivers. Any other gfx chipset is probably does not support 3D, but 2D and videos will work fine.

yeah i figured. it is integrated. the computer is a 2002 HP so.... lol im gutting my whole computer soon so it doesnt matter. thanks though

@Sc0ttTay every PC needs a Graphics card of some sort to function. it's what your Monitor plugs into.

thanks a lot .. new here and first thing i did was delete my lower panel ... had to do alt+tab to find minimized windows for some time before i saw this :) .. tried all ur tricks after that .. Windows+tab is cool as well

how do you get 4 workspaces. all i can get is 2. and how much different is it getting 3D desktop on 9.10 than 9.04

Right click on the multiple desktop applet, and select preferences.
9.10 is very identical to 9.04, but intel drivers and ati drivers are faster. ATI drivers also crash a little bit less but still crash.
If you have a nividia nothing changed.
9.10 changed some icons and startup animations but nothing big.
