Bassai-Dai - Kawasoe Sensei (former JKA 6th Dan)

I dont pretend to be any form of expert in karate even though ive studied traditional jka shotakan karate for over 35 years. I still strive to achieve this form of hara, an unbelievable center of balance and realaxation when needed. Its taken me years and still striving to perfect the true fundaments of karate, i.e some books will refer to has and call karate basics, though this is a black belt kata, the basics for me are so strong and enhanced through Sensei Kawasoe's kata. Toatal perfection.

Very well done kata, I'm ok at it still need alot of practice, but Idid use it to place

2nd at the ISKF U.S. National Tournament.

Any tips you could give me? I'm a bit unbalanced in the kata.

Don't doit like this guy his kata lacks in many different areas. He lacks fluidity, balance and strength in some places when his heel comes up. Not overly bad but not anything you want to try to be like, look up Kanawaza he's got a good Bassai.

@fartface0469 Kawasoe was Kanazawa's kohai in JKA, also assisted when Kanazawa was in England (before Kanazawa split).

I used to use this for my tournament kata, however I never had good balance, so I switched to an okinawan kenpo kata. This guy does it like its so easy. I'm envious....

hey guys im receiving this first dan certificate tomorrow at a JKA england course, but im sorta unsure about what im supposed to do:( from what i can remember you go up bow shake hand get certificate then bow again then leave and sit down. but i just wanted to know if im right.

Itrained with him when he first arrived in England, 1975 I think. He was amazing. I have good memories of Sensei Tomita as well. Thanks for posting this

1000MOSHT, yes it is a good kata, but he is a Japanese instructor. You would have said great even if he had fallen down twice during the kata. Right?
