I am not being ungrateful for bill gates giving away billions of dollars, but really is it that hard to give away 2 billion when you have 60 billion in the bank? What difference has it made to his life?

I propose that Bill Gates donates two billion to the Free Software Foundation, starts lobbying for repeal of DMCA and software patent laws, and takes an active anti-monopolism stance. The Electronic Frontier Foundation could use some money as well. Surely a humanity loving philanthropist like Bill wouldn't mind investing his money into these noble causes? We pay all that money for Microsoft products, so he knows we are standing by his side, paying it all with him. Long live Bill. (and Steve)

I'm all for that myself but being a Table Manufacturer, I believe you need to get paid for what you do. Does a artist not have a Family? Does a Author not have a family? Does a Common Joe need food on his table? We should support the Software Manufacturers of America because they are the true geniuses of our time! Without them,we'd have NO WINDOWS NO MACINTOSH and certainly NO LINUX! Also the artists like Em who are struggling to make ends meet,I'm running out of room but that's my piece.

tovara22, ah, well Free Software means "free as in freedom", not "free as in beer".

Financially, the best way to make money with Free Software is with support contracts. This model is employed by the GNU/Linux business/distribution "Red Hat".

Making ends meet is just the way the world works, yeah. But, as you'll notice, Youtube itself runs on "Apache" server software, which has a 'free' license. Free Software is everywhere already, generating revenue for businesses.
