Pete, I wore out three sets of T-poles before I figured they simply are not needed for hiking. Hiking/backpacking makes you stronger and the poles are a lot of hassel to use or lay aside when you want to do something. Plus, as you indicated, they cost a chunk of change. I see them as being more helpful to the seller of them than to hiking. Still, I have no problem with others that use them. I once was addicted, too. Idaho is my favorite state to hike in, though, I live in Utah. Go figure.

I used to live in idaho, But I moved to kentucky, I go back about every other summer to hike. I miss the beauty so bad.
