  • Gothic200ad. NO GOOD. Are you tone deaf? Barbra is so nasal. Eddie's voice is clear and bell perfect.

  • No one better...no one!

  • I am sorry but Barbra sings this song so MUCH BETTER....NO WAY EYDIE good try but no good sorry

  • This lady could really deliver, an amazing voice

  • Auditons closed......sorry Barbara.....Eydie is simply the best.

  • She's just great. Too much band.

  • This woman has always been so underrated!

  • This and If He Walked Into My Life Today ( a grammy award winner ) are from the Don't Go To Strangers album. A brilliant, moving album . Eydie sings the the way Streisand used to sing before Streisand opted for Hollywood stardom and the mainstream....stream lining each note and losing the impact and meaning of the feelings behind the words of the song.

  • Barbra AND Eydie are both fine, thank you. Just give them props and stop the name calling.

  • My parents played her albums all the time I grew up in the 50s and 60s. She and her husband Steve Lawrence were the young singing couple on the old "Tonight Show" with Steve Allen WAY before Johnny Carson.

Her best song is "I wanna be around (...to pick up the pieces)" Amy Winehouse was so similar to Miss Gorme. Too bad that Amy ended it all with alcohol poisoning. A great loss!

  • This is a perfect example of the 'double climax' show-stopper. Only the greatest of the 'belters' could do it and not make it seem like they were 'overworking' the song.

  • @poetcomic1 I have the album of her greatest hits and I get the chills every time when I listen to this song.

  • Damn!!!

  • It is excellent. The sound is amazingly good for such an old TV show! Digitally cleaned up?

  • @willwjl - Well, if the show was originally recorded on 2" videotape like this was, the audio is 15ips studio mastering quality. It got "dumbed down" substantially when it was broadcast through the transmitters, but the sound straight off the tapes is excellent.

  • This IS singing! Pure vocal - pure magic!

  • Now THAT, boys and girls, is what singing is. Flawless.

  • Possibly the greatest American female singer of our time - and this performance proves it - Happy Birthday Eydie!

  • @535Duke I love Ms. Streisand too (worshipped her in the 60's as a child). But "administering a sacrament" is well put. Definitely see what you mean!

  • See, this is what Celine Dion and many of the songstresses of today just can't do.

  • Wow, wow, wow! The greatest!

  • A JEWISH PRINCESS!!! GREAT VOICE AND OUT OF THIS WORLD TALENT!!!

  • This is what a great talented voice sounds like.

  • One of the to ten performances I have seen in my lifetime.

  • SHE IS BRILLIANT. Love the fast tempo.

  • Sorry Eydie but even in 1966 there was only ONE Babs and you sure ain't her!

  • @mrspatrickcampbell Eydie's version is much more effective than Streisand. Burton Lane (who wrote the music) came to my college in 1981 and said he really, really disliked the Streisand version. That she pulled apart the classical musical structure he built into the song. It's fine to love Barbara (I do too), but not everything she did "tops" other versions in my view.

  • @mrspatrickcampbell sorry, BARBRA. (Silly me!)

  • This is the SECOND gleaming, glorious Gorme GEM that I swiped from your treasure chest tonight, Philo T. Count me as your newest subscriber!

  • this is great but the band is way too loud. I'm sure she was pissed, you can hear her really pushing in spots.

  • I love her. And this clip right here is my favorite song she does. I think she is better than Streisand. Streisand is all technical. Edyie is well Eydie. I fell like she has something emotionally invested in her songs. Streisand might as well be filing her nails while singing. BTW I have this song in Mp3. I converted it so I could have it on my Ipod so if anyone wants it in Mp3 let me know. Thanks for posting this.

  • She could kick ass with the best....Streisand, Shirley Bassey, even Carol Burnett...

  • She's sooo good!!

  • a true musical artist

  • Only the best my children.

  • There may be some fine talent introduced on these prime time talent shows,

but back in those days at least you knew what you were tuning into when

    you turned on the TV.

  • I have loved this song since I was a teenager! I found this on an album at my grandmothers house, and played it raw! Thanks so much for the post!

  • Girl's got some pipes, huh? MAGNIFICENT !

  • I have chills. And do you think young people today have this experience with the crap that's out there like Justin Beiber or Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake? These kids should be parkng cars or working the counter at Denny's. They don't deserve to be in the same profession as someone like Eydie Gorme. What a gift!

  • I just watched this video again and I still get goosebumps hearing Edie hit those notes!

    Brava Edie Brava !!!!!

  • @mapdrm2 One of the all time greats right up there with Judy

  • thanks Robert

  • Nobody did this great song from "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" like Eydie. Sammy Davis came closest, and even then was a big difference.

Eydie's vocal, coupled with Don Costa's arrangement, is more than a performance. It's almost a religious experience.

  • Now THIS is a REAL live performance!! Plain and simple, they don't make singers like this anymore . . . . it's a shame! And it's a shame that there are no good musical arrangements anymore either.

  • This is a superb live performance from Eydie Gorme! Can't really find any singers these days who can perform a powerful live performance like Eydie and other performers in her time. Eydie has such a powerful voice and I love the powerful musical arrangement that backed her up. There was a comment that someone wrote which said, "She most certainly does know how to build to a big finish." I agree, she most certainly does!

  • @MusicLoverBrian1 I can't say it any better you did, please just allow me to agree with every word you've stated here. Thank you, a fan of Eydie...

  • Etdie's amazing ... very few singers can express emotion and command a power arrangement like she can. Love her.

  • Love Eydie but that band was brutel

  • Great stuff :-)

    Saskia

  • Amazing voice. One of the very best ! Wow !

  • What an incredible voice. I heard Edie sing this on the radio 25 years ago while I was walking through a store. I never heard it before. I feel in love with it and Edie!! Does anyone know how Edie and Steve are doing?

  • @mapdrm2 Steve still performs but Edie is retired.

  • A Pro - plus the orchestra knew what they were doing too.

  • Eydie Gorme is great! I think she is somehow related to Neil Sedaka.

  • Definitive. Perfect.

  • Go get 'em, Eydie baby!!

  • Ever see a home run land in the upper deck? That's what Edie did here.

  • Wow!! Now that's singin'. Thank you for posting this video.

  • This seems to look like the Ed Sullivan Show.. I wish they would put that show along with the Hollywood Palace on DVD. Ed Sullivan has retro shows on dvd but they cut out alot of the singers and comedians actd to fit in the time frame. I like to see a singer sing or a comedian telling a joke from start to finish.. Eydie Is one hell of a singer..

  • I often wondered how awesome it would have been if Judy Sang this song. Eydie is a great singer Id like to know if they still tour.

  • @NFitalianGuy Ms. Garland likely would have belted it out as she did so well with many others, true to her fashion and like unto Eydie's. But this is a good song to imagine for Judy.

  • @CarrionBag I agree with you that a couple of Eydie songs would have been fantastic for Judy to sing. I just turned 42 June 5th I 1st heard judy sing Stevie Wonder's hit of "For once in my life" I was 31 but when I heard Judy's version from her last concert, she made it her own.Its rare that a singer can do that. i.e. Sinatra with NY NY,Elvis & My Way. So I am sure she would have shredded some of Eydie's songs because Eydie was also a "belter" Too bad she didnt guest on TJGS. :)

  • @NFitalianGuy Ms. Garland likely would have belted this one out true to her fashion and like unto Eydie's. This is a great song to imagine for Judy.

  • Was this from "The Hollywood Palace"?

  • What's better than the best? Simple ---Eydie, of course!

  • て、天性の歌姫!!!!!!

  • English translation:

    natural songstress!!!!!!

  • I tear up every time I see this. One of the best pop vocals ever recorded. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • She most certainly does know how to build to a big finish :)

  • womenz just don't know how to sing anymore. Since the 60s, crooners and big bands have pretty much disappeard.
