  • Jim Al Khalili is good music to my ears

  • POR FAVOR TRADUZCAN AL ESPAÑOL ÉSTOS VIDEOS DEL PROFESOR KHALILI GRACIAS MAESTRA CARLOTA SALCIDO

  • For anyone who wants to see the documentary: look on youtube for "Science and Islam: Part 1: The Language of Science". It's 3 parts.

If you are interested also in modern science, I highly recommend his series on the atom and the current view we have of the universe (ie that we most likely come from exploding stars). Search for "Atoms: Clash of the titans".

Or look for "Self Organization of Life - part 1 - pattern formation in nature" where he talks about structure emerging from simple systems.

  • it's true, we even use Arabic numerals today, Latin and Greek numerals were

very difficult and awkward to use. Both Arabic culture and ancient India contributed while Europe was in dark ages.

  • Its sad how the western institutions completely ignore any reference to muslim scolars who they know very well layed the foundations for many of our sciences today, so even in terms of academic honesty and integrity, these names should be mentioned in some form or the other where its relevant but when you mention Greek scholars and ignore more than a thousand years of civilisation it means there is something fundamentally wrong with the intentions of these institutions.

  • @Thetruthisone maybe if the islamic world didnt extinguish itself, it would be a story worth telling.

  • i tribute all creator irrespective religion... so thanks to emphasis some scientist of medieval time......

  • They have islam citizens that want me to be in poverty just so that they can pull my boyfriend, parterns, just so that i am alone for christmas and my birthday. that is how islam treats the messiah

  • I read his book on Quantum Physics and was amazing!

  • This is what the west fears most: that muslims will develop an interest in science and technology.

they know muslims are better as they have been in the past before they wiped our print on science.

the west wants muslims and their children to be kept locked in an eternal darkness of wars and especially fear because a fearfull mind can never learn anything.

  • @Berialavrenti The west was not the downfall of science and reason in the islamic world. Religion was, and still is. What the west wants is for muslims to drop their dogmatic beliefs and join the 21st century. Sadly though, here in America, a large portion of the public strives to be as scientifically illiterate as many muslims. What this shows is that ideologies are a global problem, not specific to a particular group or tribe.

  • @Darwin42ME

you have no idea how wrong you are! Islam is not like christianity, islam never fought but always encouraged science! "seek knowledge, even if you have to go to china" was the prophets motto.

People who speak like you are just the same racist old folk that hang blacks 40 years ago and are now using different words with the same meaning.

Muslims want nothing from america but one thing; Get the hell out of our countries and leave us alone! we dont want any relation with the USA!

  • @Berialavrenti Wow, racist? LOL. I took your advice and looked up the "peaceful" history of islam: Byzantine–Arab Wars: 634–750, Conquest of Persia and Iraq: 633–651, Conquest of Transoxiana: 662–709, Conquest of Sindh: 664–712, Conquest of Hispania: 711–718 and Septimania 719–720, Conquest of the Caucasus: 711–750, Conquest of Nubia: 700–1606, Incursions into southern Italy: 831–902, Conquest of Anatolia: 1060–1360, Byzantine-Ottoman Wars: 1299–1453, Further conquests: 1200–1800.

  • @Darwin42ME

all short wars, none of them directed at annihilating a race or a people from the face of the earth like the crusades, inquisition, conversion of the americas the world wars, slavery, colonialism and post colonialism wars.

You bastard: the wars your mention are in no comparison to the west's wars of atom bombs and napalm and carpet bombing!

i can make a list 10 times longer than yours, you son of a whore!

  • @Berialavrenti you reject evolution. evolution is science.

im sorry, you are talking utter bullshit.

  • @Darwin42ME If we're asking Muslims to drop their dogma, I hope we're asking them in a peaceful & kind way, instead of a cruel & violent way. The achievement will come a lot better that way. And hopefully drop the rude shouting- and especially violent attacking- by the fringe extremists of each side! A curse on both the fringe sides!

  • @Psychedelicircus

unfortunately you can't, the forces of the west have succeeded in destroying a 6000 year old civilization with hunger and bombs in just two decades. Two generations have been completely wiped out in iraq.

and now they are doing the same with north korea and are planning to do with iran.

as if doing business with dictators is completely against the morals of the west.

  • peace

  • Namaste (The light in me; honors the light in you)

  • amazing and informative explanation ...thanks for posting !

  • well done, great video to educate people about the contribution of Iraqi scientists to the world

  • I was aware of the Arabian connection to Europe's awaking by way of the Arab city in Spain ,that back then ,had a healthy community of Jew traders that lived peaceably with the Arab rulers, they traded Arab copies Greek books, that they re-copied into Latin and Greek ,to Monks that spread the knowledge back to Europe.

  • Thank you for posting this clip. How can we reach Jim Al-Khalili? What is his real first name? He mentioned being involved in making a movie about Arab and Moslem sciences/scientists by traveling to Egypt, Syria, Spain, but not IRAQ, which is the MOST important country in terms of contributions to sciences, literature and philosophy. Does he need footage from IRAQ if he can not travel there himself? We could help provide him with footage. I hope you let him write to us. Thanks again.

  • Al-Khalili mentions that al-Bayruni was a Persian, but does not mention that Ibnul Haytham (his role model scientist) was an Arab, instead he labels him as an Iraqi (which is true), but with the same train of thoughts he should have labled al-Bayruni as an Iranian. Al-Bayruni was born in Kath, Khwarazm (today's Kazakhistan), so how can he be Persian? Did he write and speak in Persian? Were both his mother and father Persians?

  • @INEAS

khalili shows in this his european upbringing.

even scientists from medieval islamic spain or sicily are put outside european history. its the same european racism that puts a country like palestine before in 1948 in the oriental sphere and after that as a solid part of europe.

  • Very nice ..many thanks for the effort .. I hope the message is delivered !!

  • Thank you so much for this good effort

  • You have mentioned in this video that you've visited some parts of the Islamic world like Syria, Egypt and some more, but you didn't mention visiting Baghdad the core of this documentary. Really this burned my heart. I don't blame you, because your safety is first, but I blame the occupation and the bad security that turned my beloved city Baghdad into dangerous spot
