I owned this amp. It plays nicely but it has its own character. For me the drive channel sounded better than clean. Few days ago arrived my new Blackstar HT 50. I won´t change in next few years. Greetings from Slovakia!
leaving the amp on the brink so soft picking cleans up and harder causes it to break up. but the only reason i know that is that i could never get enough headroom on my blackstar 1w and if i was playing heavy handed it would go into full blown crunch
I really like the sound of the Dual El34 Head, but on the other hand I wonder whether 50 watts are enough to gig... My first amp was a Harley Benton 60 Watt combo and I've made the experience that the amp sounds worse if you crank up the volume . At the moment I play a Fender 60s Strat through a Marshall MG 100 (100 Watts, transistor), but actually I don't like the tone. So should I sell the Marshall and buy me a statesman?
@restlesswildfree the staesman el34 is great. 50 watts should be enough for giging (this amp is loud!) at bigger gigs you have to mic it but i has to be big.
@1Guug Thank you very much for your quick answer. I think I'm going to buy me this one cause the sound is just amazing. It's gonna be my first tube amp.
@restlesswildfree defenetly get the stateman, what you describe is quite typicall of a SOLID STATE amp, solid state amp typically sound harsh and thin when crank up, kind of farts and really high volume, thats why you need high wattage for solid state amps to retain that nice tone you hear at lower volumes... on the other hand tube amps like this stateman do the complete opposite at a volume were solid states like your marshall and harley benton would fart out is where typical tube amp SHINE
@marc85guitar and get that nice sweet tube tone, thats why you see a lot of players use lower wattage tube amps, because tube amps need to be crank to get that nice power tube natural saturation/// for most gigs, depending on style, 15-50watts is plenty for a tube amp.... i recommend also looking at the tubemeister 18
Respond to this video... also keep in mind especially if this is your first tube amp, the more you crank it the more power tube saturation you will get, so naturaly the more you crank up the volume you have to roll back and adjust the gain to accommodate for the extra gain your getting from the power tube section.... after you play around with gain and volume you'll eventually find that "sweet spot"
Very good amp. Bought it a good half a year back and haven't regretted the buy one bit. Very versatile, great punch, great sound. If this is going to be your first real tube amp, consider buying one. Playing this over a 2x12" inch homemade open back cabinet and it gives me that great fat seventies rock n roll sound that one would normally seeks in the bigger priced section. Crank it up and 50W is more than enough for gigging. Clean sounds warm and pure. An excellent choice when on a budget.
@bgstrat62 that's the reason why he is the official Fender "Europe Strat King" ;) he's awesome as hell, saw him a few times live and he is amazing... and in time ;)
@bgstrat62 this man is perfect blues strat player ..actualy one of the best I ve heard.. his note timing is the part od his blues feeling. Metronome is for freaking lifeless german trance music
Hi, I am really interested in buying the Hughes & Kettner Statesman 6l6, but I can't find a good review on this particular combo.....does it sound like the head version, the overdrive channel is nice?
And is the amp playable at low volumes (with a good sound), as the head is?
@ZKDanika I agree! I played Marshall exclusively for 20 years, and as time went on the newer amps got rather disappointing. Hughes and Kettner does a better Marshall sound, than Marshall! Bought me an Edition Tube combo and was floored at how good their smallest amp sounded. The statesman head soon followed. Why did I wait so long to try H&K?! Now I'm Hughes and Kettner and nothing else!
easily the best amps of the 21st century , the new models marshalls/fenders just dont cut it compared to hughes and kettner! I own a Fender hotrod Deville 410 combo, and it has great clean tones , but its od channel is very dry and uninspiring , causing me to have to use tons of pedals , which i HATE doing , because when i buy an amp i usually like to really like both channels and use them ecsclusivley , should i try and get a used H&K, or should i get a H&K and trade in my fender?
Great demo, thanks Thomas. I own the Dual 6L6 and love it. A friend of mine came to a show this summer and heard me playing through this amp, and he was blown away - so much so, that he just bought one as well!
I don't know if this Thomas Blug is the secret master of rolling back the volume, but this just blew me away. Haven't heard a more subtly overdriven clean channel, and transparent distortion channel on the same amp. Absolutely stunning!

you have to keep in mind that it was played by Thomas Blug with his 62s Strat.
Damn good player damn good strat.

his finger and Guitar is 70% of that sound but the statesman is still a damn good amp xD

naaa it is a really good amp!
watch other videos with Tomas Blug he sounds 10-20% diffrent xD
This H&K is the best stock amp Ive ever owned, the clean is a bit to modern to me but the overdrive is just sick!

IMO, this is a great amp head for Jazz and hard core Texas Blues. Very SRVish. The Statesman amp head is the way to go.

Thats Thomas's original song from his "Electric Gallery Album"
All of his albums are very tasteful music..
Thomas is one of the most underrated master blues guitarists that ever lived.
Hopefully that will change soon as more and more people are exposed to this wonderful musician.
