I have tried Siri (iphone 4), Iris, Vlingo, and Edwin. I think that they all need some work some more than other. I think when the Iphone 5 comes out Vlingo with talk back. And the others will be better if not just as good as Siri

Edwin has been around since early 2010 - Siri was just introduced 2 weeks ago, nearly 1.5 YEARS after Android had such an app. It's using the default Pico text-to-speech voice included with Android, but you can install additional voices. I use the Ivona one called Amy and it's a British female voice, very sweet and far more understandable than Siri's default voice. Stop being so ignorant - Apple didn't get their first, yet one more time.

@br0adband Siri has been around much longer than Edwin. Don't be foolish. Apple acquired Siri over a year ago. Here, please watch this. And don't make excuses. You still have a point, just don't be wildly inaccurate.

Google: "TR Intelligent Software Assistant", click and read the first sentence.

The Siri group got patents on all of their semantic recognition for a reason so its not surprising if Apple picked them up and would protect them.

@lceus It's using Pico, the default (two-year-old) TTS voice. Other voices such as Loquendo sound much better and are compatible with Edwin and can be installed from the Android Market like any other app.

OMG. I just installed this and it's amazing. Make sure you install the extended text to speech on your phone and SpeechSynthesis data installer for it to work perfectly.

@lj78uk Load up Edwin and hit the question mark (help) button the lower right. Go to the first section of "Help and Tips". In that section you will see "Not hearing speech" with two links below. Alternatively, you can open the Market app and do a search for both.
