You're suppose to clinch at the top of the head, not the base of the neck. And you're suppose to keep your elbows tight so you can control their head. totally wrong advice! the idea of a clinch is to pull ur opponent's head downwards towards your chest to plant a knee into the chin/face. let anyone get a free hold your neck without trying to win back a hold of your own will guarantee your demise. you can throw the elbow when the opponent closes in for a clinch and have yet to establish it, but then, it might be the opponent is closing in for his own elbow shot.

I don't know if it's just me but throwing elbows are pretty effective in most street fights people will never expect you to throw elbows plus it beats throwing a punch if you are up close to a person you won't be able to get a full extention on the arm if you throw a punch in compared to throwing an elbow

I'm taught when clinching up to not only sinch those elbows down in the clavicle, but also use your head as leverage against their head - keeps them tight + no room for those upswings. Sound right?

if someone forgets to do that to me, i'll think about this though! haha. Unfortunately, amateur MMA fights don't allow elbows or knees to the face (maybe that's actually fortunate lol).

You would not be able to throw any sort of elbow...just in case anyone is wondering, i fought pro full rules muay thai for 21 years,, 93 fights in total. MMA fight, you can lock your fingers, I only recommend it though when your opponent is very tired and you can easily throw them around with interlocked fingers.

if you lock your fingers you're likely to get them broken. either from the force of you kneeing them in the head or if they try to break your hold. like one of the horizontal elbows you just seen.

they are if they are driven forward as well as up. think of a rising palm strike to the chin, similar idea. your correct tho, those uppercut elbows needed to be thrown forward, but this was a demo so maybe they know that. they proabably should have mentioned it if they did
