The secondary air pump is not unnecessary. on a cold start it adds oxygen from air to the exhaust causing the oxygen sensor to compensate by adding fuel which heats up the catalytic converter quickly. You would probably buy a new converter every year without this innovation.Your air pump also reduces the dispersal of excess hydrocarbons during specific drive cycle occasions.
If you are talking about how long it takes for the check engine light to turn off after re-attaching a hose that fell off or what not, you either have to just drive for a good week and hopefully it will check and see that its fixed and turn off the light, or you can use special tools to reset the cars computer and the light will go off, and eventually the car will test again to see if its fixed or not
im having the same code come up one my 2001 A4 1.8T.
I found a vaccuum hose not attached to my kombi valve. fixed it. Not the issue. Found another cracked hose. Fixed, Not the issue. Im trying to have a look at my air pump but its not as easily accessible being underneith the car lol. I know it isnt very important other than emmissions. but im trying to sell the car. and who wants to buy an audi with a check engine light on? If anyone has the same issue with there audi, advice would be nice! :)
thank you so much for this video...my check engine light goes on and off and a smog check guy recently showed me that my air pump bracket broke and the hose was loose...we taped the hose and will see about fixing the bracket...your video helped me not worry so much about this unneeded part!!!! (I was freaking out a little!!)
Pick one up on Ebay for 80 bucks like I just did a week ago. It was highly recommended by someone at VW to not blow 500 bucks on a new one, and try to find a used working one if I could. I'm putting mine in tomorrow.
i have a 02 vw passat 2l patrol and that has code always shows up. nothing is wrong with me car except that. and secondary air pump not working when i start engine i checked the secondary pump by afferent power it was working i checked all fuses and relay but i think the is no power in the air pump wire please help me thank you.
While this is a very common problem for the check engine light on these cars, i would also say take your car to autozone, they can use a "scan tool" to check your engine codes and tell you exactly what the problem is.
i have a 01 vw jetta vr6 and that has code always shows up. nothing is wrong with me car except that. lol ive located it i believe but wow..... i think the people who worked on it, when i had problems with it before, might have knocked it around and caused the car to send the code.
IF only more people were to sahre info like this, not that I have this problem or anything, is just that whnever you look around in the internet there is sometimes no info whatsoever.
yea those mounts are a bitch....mine broke too and caused the secondary air pump engine code

@nesgael1 Good to know, i am no expert on the matter thats for sure, i had just heard from a few other videos that its role wasn't that important.
rxmarccall 2 months ago
@nesgael1 if it was necessary, it would be on every vw model that happens to have one. however, it's not. secondary air pump is not necessary.
