Michigan's Maize-Out doesn't look intimidating like Penn State's White Out does. It actually reminds me of a lazy late summer day when the leaves are starting to change and has somewhat of a calming effect. Unless that's what Michigan's going for, a calming effect that makes the visiting team feel a little too at ease, some other stadium wide color-out should be done, like maybe a Code Blue with that dark Michigan blue. It would almost look like a Black Out.

I don't think the white out is exactly calming. It looks more like the blinding snowstorms on Cresson Mountain in nearby Altoona, Pennsylvania. It looks like the opposing team is about to be buried in a blizzard or avalanche.

But the maize out doesn't look intimidating. It looks to me like the trees and the grass on a bright fall morning. I think you should think about a Code Blue, since Michigan Blue looks more like black and it might have the effect of Iowa's blackout.

A "blue out" is a terrible idea -- in fact, the Michigan AD tried this throughout '05 (since the student football shirts were blue that year), and the student section just looked like the alumni section without anybody wearing maize.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree about the white out being intimidating, as well. No offense. The color thing is really just to show fan solidarity. Nobody is intimidated by it.

The white out's intimidating factor is that all that white can be a little blinding, like driving through a snowstorm on the mountain. It can help the atmosphere. But the most important thing is that the students are LOUD and ROWDY. On two ends of the spectrum you have guys like PSU who are loud and noisy, and Stanford who sit still and say nothing, and only give light applause at the end, like they're in church or something. Michigan isn't like Stanford, but not like PSU or OSU either that way.

Penn State has only used the white out once against Michigan, so I don't really think that's a fair question. Michigan so far is 1-0 against the white out, but in 2008 it should be 1-1. But it almost beat Michigan in 2006. The score was 17-10 and Penn State was one or two plays away from winning. I expect the 2008 PSU-MICH game to look like the 2007 PSU-IOWA game. But I admit that the 2006 game was pure home field advantage. In Ann Arbor it'd have looked more like the 27-0 thrashing in 1998.
