This is one of the very best Soundgarden songs. The way the "wanna make you right" part repeats and builds from 3:40 to 4:25 is one of the most intense sections of music I've ever heard. Soundgarden were/are something else.
One of my favorite songs in high school and still remains to be a song I happily DO NOT skip on my MP3 player 15+ years later. Soundgarden is awesome.
This album definitely isn't their best; there is no denying Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are better than Down on the Upside. . . but there is just something about Down on the Upside that makes me love it far more than any other Soundgarden album; it's hard to describe, but it sounds more pure, I suppose. I just wish I could listen to this album for the first time one more time. . .
@Wtfpwned90 Chris also said this was his favorite album & time with Soundgarden. I have to agree oviously we have our own opinions. This album is a hidden gem as well as Eurphoria Morning!.
Whatever metal I'm into I can always go back to the nineties for inspiration and satisfaction from hard rock. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Tool, STP, and so many more. All brilliant and all timeless. Why can't bands of today pull at your soul like they did?
My former band, Before The Fall, covered this song. We wrote our own stuff, but Soundgarden guided us as a group. Every time we played this, You could feel, breathe, the intensity through the room. This song transcends the player and listener.
Connection to the Beatles? What? I wouldn't ever connect Soundgarden or Chris Cornell to the Beatles. They are the one of the greatest bands to come out of Seattle and the Beatles are the greatest bands to come out of Liverpool. What is the connection???
@kiscaly They do love the beatles - Kim bought the same amp and used the same settings from some Beatles track (can't remember which) for Black Hole Sun, that shimmery sound. Plus they covered Helter Skelter and Come Together, but aye, totally, this song has nothing in common with the beatles and in my opinion, SG shit on the beatles. From a very great height. With a smile on their faces.
@LewisGreenhow while soungarden are better than the beatles (just my oppinion, I know some people rage and hate at the very sight of sayings like that), you can't forget that Cornell was basically a Beatles fanboy and all that :D
I don't hear the Beatles connection either. I hear the the key the song's in and the notes but they're phrased entirely different. It's all about context within the song.
I am a black guy who didnt realize Soundgarden is so dam good until last year. They totally sound like Black Sabbath and the Beatles rapped up in one with a deeper darker side.
@TheEricroberson SAME KIND OF VIBE AS THE LET IT BE CONCERT... THAT SOUND... THAT MOMENT... I CAN HEAR WHAT YOUR SAYING AS I HAVE LONG THOUGHT THAT....
@dead168 Thanks there aren't many bands that have great guitar players who play in anternate tunning with that middle eastern sound mixed in with blues and old Sabbath
definitivamente la mejor cancion de Down on the upside... no traigo nada contra las demas, solo que esta en mi opinion es mi favorita, pero todas estan bien vergaaaaaaas
y SOUNDGARDEN VA A VOLVER, ALA VERGAAAAAAAAAAAAA :D
@freshtendrills People these days find it hard to like good music my friend. But as long as people like me and you appreciate it, then it''ll never die. (like your name by the way, great song!)

Drink it down and swallow hard and gaze
Hold the potion up
Stare your shadow down
Remember to forget and then rename your shame"
