I mean, you could infer that there was no time to get Raticate to the hospital, and thus it died, hence Gary's presence at Lavender Town, but it's insinuating a lot. Pokemon was ballsy to bring up the topic of death and such, but not THAT ballsy.

Although it doesn't ever happen to the main character (except in nuzlockes) pokemon do die. in black and White for example, alder lost his pokemon to illness. The only reason it doesn't happen to your character is because it would be irrelevant.

This may be pointless to say either way what happened wasnt Red's fault that Blue 's Raticate die. Blue could've just left you alone on the S.S.Anne but instead he used poor judgement to pick a fight at that moment that caused his Raticate to perish. In retrospect Blue is repsonisible for his own actions and thats why his grandfather scolded him because he didnt treat his pokemon well. Though its just a game and shouldnt be thought through just wanted to get a point in. Sides...Blue was an ass

@acau77 1st of all, Red doesn't know about Gary's existence because they are in seperate universes but he is familiar with Blue. 2nd of all, why do you think 3rd gen doesnt have Mt. Silver? Because after Gold beats him, he disappears. You know what that means? He probably killed himself after murdering his rival's pokemon and losing his title. He does come back after you beat Kanto's elite 4 again so you fight the ghost of Red. Gold is the one responsible for killing the best trainer ever.
