In my city we trust 16year old to guard lives but you can't be a cashier and handle money until you are 18. A little skewed? In my opinion 16year olds do not have the maturity and understanding to be lifeguards. I was a lifeguard at 16 but I had great teachers/coworkers who corrected my bad habits. You're not just getting a tan or sitting there doing nothing...you are guarding lives and lives can be lost if you don't pay attention or know how to respond to an emergency.
