I don't watch much TV, but when I do, I never watch these reality shows.

Haven't done so since The Real World in 1999 or so.

But even back then, the reality shows weren't always guaranteed to feature some sort of blatant assholishness. That was usually limited to one individual and even then, it wasn't encouraged. It kind of just happened.
