We have a form of fascism now. Major companies in bed with and getting bailed out by Government. Their incompetence is rewarded when people down the pecking order would do a far better sustainable job. It pays large companies to be inefficient, threaten job losses and make the profit on bail out money. At least the rich could go bust under Free Markets, they don't under Keynesianism, they just get richer via tax money instead of hard work! You just witnessed it with the bail out!!
I would like to embed a few of these in a blog to state why I think the president should be Dennis Kucinich, but it seems the embed is turned off. Is this a YouTube error?
that lady is off base with the protectionist comment. we are the biggest consumers in the world, if there was a backlash for protectionism we could absorb the hit
Now that we have a some time between the truth and the rhetorical smoke. The issue of how our government doesn't seem to have the ethical talent pool to follow the money and determine where the liars are in this.
Some how I really get the sense that gheitner is double dealing between us and china..to what end I ca not say, but there seems to be Hippocry everywhere and the truth is being obscured
It seems anymore Government intervention in the market doesn't work nor does market intervention within it self work either, there is more to this than meets the eye, I believe it is a combination of market greed and sending jobs overseas because these companies will do what is profitable for them not for America and inflation exceeding the truth wealth of the individual, along with energy costs and just trying to make ends meet and wars the fed, subprime mortgages promoted by our government.
Only about 10% of our economy is manufacturing; the other 90% is service which largely produces nothing but hot air. This is upside down; it should be the reverse. We need to learn how to compete effectively in the international market. We dont need to merely create more jobs, the jobs have to be about producing things efficiently which can be sold at a profit domestically and internationally.
why does Goldman sachs get a bail out but the auto industry does not? I don't think Goldman Sachs should get a bail out and I have no problem with critizising the auto industry. But don't give the Goldman Sachs a bailout from money (some of which comes from auto workers) and then not not bail out the auto industry.
In response to the HR 1207 comments, Dennis Kucinich is not yet supporting HR 1207 not because he wants the money supply to remain hidden but rather because HR 1207 is still being referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. Committees filter which bills and resolutions make it to the house floor in order to insure they don't waste time on useless laws. Ron Paul is on this Committee so he can take action on it, while Dennis Kucinich, who is not on the Committee, can not.
TL:DR Until the bill hits the house floor Kucinich can not take action on it, so quit your bitching and learn some legislative processes. Peace, one love.
There is no "FREE MARKET". Currency values are manipulated and controlled. There is nothing "Free" or good in the word "FREE Market". It just gives the Robber Corporations a license to steal!!! In a boxing match would you just drop your hands and let your opponent punch you in the face? And then Let him hit you again....YOU PROTECT YOURSELF and HIT BACK. We have been stymied by the propaganda about how bad Protectionism is. Of course we know in whos interest Free Trade is. Not in our interest.
When are you people going to wake up to the fact that these Fascist Corporations want to gut the US jobs base and ship it all overseas. Not mentioning the Depression of the past...the NEW Depression is right around the corner where our jobs are being shipped out of the country by greedy Corporations and Globalists. Think NOW! It is smart to ship your own or your neighbors jobs to China or Mexico? Of course not! The Media have most of you people snowed with doubts and propaganda!!!
He has his own bill introduced (HR 2424). It's similar, but some say weaker than Mr. Paul's bill. This might have been a test to see who could get more support since they're from different parties. Hopefully, since Mr. Paul's has bill has caught on like wildfire, Kucinich will sign on at the last minute. I haven't lost respect for him yet.
the problem is that you think anybody who doesnt come to the same conclusion as not only wrong but deliberately trying to mislead and harm us. Government is the reaction to problems and Kucinich and Paul are some of the only politicians trying to tell people the ugly truth people dont want 2 hear. But what 2 be done about it they come up with different conclusions, does that mean one of them is being a back stabber? NO. their both independents only one leans right and the other leans left.
nah this proves my point, their both independents and they both actually want to do what they think is the best and they'll overlap on some things because they dont care what their part thinks. i was just saying ron leans right and dennis leans left but neither of them are stuck their. I like ron on a lot of things but i disagree with him on some things and if he was in a position to get elected i vote for him and i hope its the same for dennis with yu. At least these guys arent just sittin back
Sooner or later, the US will realise what the reality is behind all this «free market» propaganda: the rich getting richer and everyone else getting poorer, 1920's-style.
It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning.
Henry Ford
Call your states senator and congressman.Ask them to audit the FED by supporting the following bills.
In congress Ron Pauls-HR 1207
In the senate Bernie sanders S-604
Call & tell them know how you feel about the war, torture, nafta, the patriot act etc.
I'm always surprised at the civil and rational discussions that Rep. Kucinich has on FBN. And where better to have a democrat on TV than in a place that will typically be a counterpoint to republicans?
Burntonion, you might want to ask why the other networks are NOT having Kucinich on their shows. Dennis is merely taking the media opportunities that are presented to him, not the other way around.
Beautiful example of our globalist media "spinning" treason. We buy a 60% share of GM(fascism) and send the jobs to China and Fox endorses it! They attack Kucinich as an isolationist because he says we should keep the jobs in the US.... This is a good example of why I turned off my TV. Paul/Kucinich 2012.
kucinich is often right! He and ron paul are the only ones who are {for the american people.... why are 90% of americans so silly? Ever since I was a kid I wonder why people let gov. stick it toUmm
Kucinich is proving himself to be a COWARD. His true colors are showing with his failure to challenge THE ROOT OF EVIL in this country...THE CENTRAL BANK and FIAT CURRENCY.
Kucinich has not been there for Paul in this battle and has refused to join HR 1207 and help the American people audit the fed.
This is indeed disturbing. Do you have some documents for us to look at? Perhaps a speech Paul gave making racist remarks? Or must we take your word on this one, anonymous youtube poster?
The KKK will be upset to find Dr. Paul has been teaching black high school kids about the Constitution and liberty.
Read Ron Paul's bigoted newsletters from the early 90's. Do you even do the most simplistic research into the politicians you support, anonymous youtube poster?
The KKK loves the Constitution. The KKK, white nationalists, and national socialists are STAUNCH nationalists. That's why they love Paul.
lol. sorry bout the rant. blame it on the alcohol. Kucinich came through on HR 1207 after all (just like I knew he would. lol.) I take back anything mean I ever said about him. The guy is obviously not a coward and never has been. furthest thing from in fact. I was just blowing off steam. always liked him, just wondered why he wasn't behind that bill. YAY KUCINICH.
What great interview skills. They don't ask what he believes. They state what it is, then grill him the whole time on why they think he is wrong. How does this fucking channel stay on tv? Why do they even need guests?
Oh thats right... So Bill-O can have them murderred for disagreeing.
I can't believe a sentence that starts with "the government" qualifies as an argument among adults. In the US there is no major corporate media outlet that's not controlled by the CIA.
We should never have given GM 50 billion to begin with. Then there wouldnt be any question about "sending jobs overseas" Private investor would have come in, bought up assets and GM debts would have been discharged. Some workers would have lost jobs, some would be rehired by new employer. Assets dont just disappear into thin air in bankruptcy. The result would be a more effective use of GM's resources without government intervention and control.
Gotta love (hate) Fox News, they never miss an opportunity to throw in a partisan loaded question, specifically the last one where the host says, talking about some of the bailouts,"...Isn't this proof positive that government intervention in the markets doesn't work?" Nice catch-all phrase there. Remember that deregulation (less intervention in the markets by the government) is ONE of the causes of this mess in the first place. What we need is a responsible balance.
we had a great opportunity to save america by not bailing out the banks. instead of bailing out our butchers we should have bailed out our producers, namely automakers, farmers etc.
If you don't have dispairity of wealth then it is more difficult for the rich to be snooty and disdainful, which is the natural order of "snooter reality". But then the only way things can be brought back to sanity would be to take the money away from the rich. It would become necessary to get them to release their grasping grips by "bus'ing up their hands" so to speak. Centralization might be good for control, but builds in social instability. Rich folks keep poisoning the well.
fuck all these car companies.. they put out crap!! ALL of the car companies !!! the cars aren't working for us!! we are working for them!thats why they dont want an increese in miles per gallon.they get paid from selling the gas.and they get paid on the tax per gallon on the gas. they then scoop up all of that money! and then use it against you by buying up the land. with the banks.and when the banks fail.they steal even more money.and buy up even more land.and kick the people out of their homes
having industry is a national security issue. i agree with you on the quality of the vehicles. BUT, they are virtually the last industry we have left thanks to NAFTA, GAT and the other globalist trade agreements.
why dont we just say to the people working for the car companies and say, hey this is war.. we are going to keep this up until there is only 1 car company left.. its a fight to the death.. fuck working together to make a better tommorow.. lets kill off eachother instead.
that would destroy the economics of my area and that will be the domino. so thanks for thinking of the men and women who will be destitute by this.ask yourself how does the pope own 51%of gm and just where in the hell do your church donations go? wake up it aint getting to the poor is it now?tesla started this shit!! thanks for haarp right>?
oops my bad im a typing terrorist!! because im the one stealing everything and selling it off to china and slicing up our country to the uk and others abroad they are dividing their spoils all the more power to them .enjoy them savor them cause the one thing you want you can never have.
GO TO NOW,YE RICH MEN:WEEP AND HOWL IN YOUR MISERIES,WHICH SHALL COME UPON YOU. YOUR RICHES ARE CORRUPTED:AND YOUR GARMENTS ARE MOTH EATEN. YOUR GOLD AND SILVER IS CANKERED:AND THE RUST FROM THEM WILL BE FOR A TESTIMONY AGAINST YOU,AND SHALL EAT UP YOUR FLESH LIKE FIRE.YOU HAVE STORED UP TO YOURSELVES WRATH AGAINST THE LAST DAYS.
All the perplexities, confusion and distress in America arise, not from defects in their Constitution or Confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit and circulation.
John Adams
Just follow the US constitution so the folks on the globe don't have to live through what buddy's talking about.
Start turning some of your savings into gold, silver, goods for trade. You haven't seen anything yet, the majority out there don't even think there's a problem. Its going to get at least 30 times worst than the debacle after the Vietnam war.
No its called being realistic and to do some "Positive" things to protect yourself from the printing press.
The US dollar is going to 0, do you go into stand by mode and watch your wealth turn into toilet paper or do you go for quality. Some that's not a promise to pay, but paid in full.
Silver is the better deal, food will be like gold. Nothing wrong with havin a 3 month supply is there. Just in case...
To late ,The federal reserve owes the chinese 1.3 trillion why not pay china with a american company!!!!!
if the taxpayers own 60% of GM the american people should pay 60% LESS for each car if they are coming from china!!!! BOYCOTT GM PRODUCTS AT ALL COST!!!
Wake up people the private federal reserve is giving your country away!! YOU ARE LETTING THEM STEAL AMERICA!!!!!!
Thats it ! next election do not re-elect anyone bring in new faces new party members libertarians ,constitutionalists , Independents, anything but the dems, republis, they are bringing this great country down and selling it out from our feet. they way they are going now our children will need to speak chinese!
I heard this before and nobody would listen to him the first time around. God bless Ross Perot. He was right and Clinton was wrong. Ross's only mistake was picking his vice-president.
Ross Perot - Looks like he was for free markets so look what you ended up with. Bill Clinton running endless war, endless welfare, endless government spending, then you get a War Criminal, endless war, endless government spending, endless corruption, endless welfare...1776 USA more like Orwell's 1984.
I'm talking free markets here (Domestic), Fair Trade with other countries. Raw materials, stuff you can't make yourself. But I would suggest a free people, combined with innovative industrial capacity can't be touched on a global market. That's why they destroyed it on purpose. Softens the sheople up, subvert the US constitution. The idiots are after control and the Liberty of individuals. Gold, silver only right, Obama swears an oath to the constitution but breaks his word. A tragedy...
Boots I think we're on the same side on some points. I feel we need to fix our own house first, and then help our neighbors out. For example would you buy vegetables from your neighbor if you can grow them yourself, especially if you can't afford them?
If the house is made out of paper and its on fire do you learn from the tragic event and build a new house with gold, so it doesn't burn down. Or do you stick with the paper again for your new house. The house is called the US Constitution it recommends gold expert advice from the architects of freedom. It recommends never build it on foreign soil without We the people's consent.Obama swears an oath to defend, but looks like he's at the competitors called corruption.
I speak like a socialist? What are you talking about? You mean workers owning the means of production of the government intervening in the economy? You are the one agreeing that the government should block its citizens from trading with people from other nations. That is authortarian. I am an a free market anarchist.
Look all Im saying is that 2000 dealerships, 12 plants plus the countlest business's that will be effected by this. PRotect these Jobs, business's etc. from going over-seas.. Its AMericans that are being effected our fellow humans, friends, family etc that get hurt.. thats all. K.I.S.S. oh and I take it back ur not a socialist..
From reading some of overmind25's comments, it would be fair to guess that he/she is not a socialist. Socialist believe in government control of the means of production with a promotion of greater equality. If you check out his/her response to my previous suggestion to nationalize some of the banks/car industry, you will see that he/she disagrees with my socialist position.
I don't condier you a socialist either. A socialist is for the workers controling the means of production, not the state. A state is an aggressive violent monopoly of certain services over land not tied to labor. It is a coercive violent insitution. Equality by aggresive violence is not equality. Only with anarchism can one have socialism or a free market. Economic systems are fine as long as they are volutnary.
"Isn't this proof positive that government intervention in the markets doesn't work?" No, it isn't. It may be proof, however, that bailouts don't work. If we had taken over these companies rather than just hand them money, we may have seen different results. In fact, you could make the argument that what we actually need is greater government intervention to limit bonuses and not allow for the outsourcing of American jobs.
Yes because a monopoly (the state) will create great results. The government is part of the involuntary hierarchy that protects monopolies in land, money, ideas, and production. Protectionism is economic tribalism. It leads to higher prices and protects unproductive jobs compared to tother producers.
I never argued that the government should have a monopoly. We should only take over the failing companies that we are giving money to anyway. This would leave other car companies and banks to create competition. These car manufacturing jobs are only "unproductive" as you called them because the workers here are being paid a living wage unlike in other countries. What we are in now is a race to the bottom.
Need does not equal production. I am not saying workers are not abused in the system but the government taking them over is not solving the problem. We should not bail any of them out.
The government should not intervene anywhere in the economy. We should address the theft of the four monopolies land, money, patent, and tariff instead of advoacting more theft. Those workers should form their own factories. They are not entilled to a guarnteed wage. The government does not have economic magic powers. There is no free lunch. It is has to steal to prop up someone else.
The problem is that the large companies are already stealing from the workers by keeping the profits from surplus labor. I do believe that Everyone is entitled to a living wage. It sounds as though we might just have different values. You seem to value economic freedom and efficiency, while I value equality and helping those in need. I am curious though, what do you mean by "We should address the theft of the four monopolies land, money, patent, and tariff"?
The companies are illegitimate because they got a charter from the state known as a corporate charter. I just value freedom. From there people can make their own values and form communities with others. No political system should be forced on another. But ignoring that important point about GM being a corporate charter, the workers are not entitled to the means of production unless they form the facts themselves.
I meant that we should go after the involuntary actions done by businesses with government that hurt workers and others instead of advocating more theft, land not tied to labor, Money ie means of exchange monopolized over a given area, patent ie monopolizing an idea, and tariff/corporate charter/subsidies.
exactly. It is amazing the people buy into the protectionist economic mysticism like religion instead of looking at the accual injustices of the system. Protectionism is NOT a solution. It is economic sucide.
China has enough man power to produce every single car, TV, Ipod, toast, washer etc for the entire globe.
What's the use of having a country inhabited by unemployed skate boarders with nothing to do but sign up for the meat grinder in the sandboxes. Globalize is kinda hard if you're into being a free person. Protectionism not a solution ? Either protect your market or turn into a 3rd world dung heap. Sound Money or kiss your azz good-bye.
If China has the manpower and the best production capacity with low externalieis like polution then they should produce those items. You have done nothing to address how protectionism does not solve the problems. Those workers should go into the services industry or another industry which they specialize in compared to others. Sound money is a good idea protectionism is retarded and leads to higher prices and mal investment.
Mal Investment , not if your on a gold standard. Right now people would be turning their paper into gold and it would stop the government in its tracks.
Protectionism is to protect the standard of living of the US citizens. Let China deal with their mob, US citizens should be #1, not #0. The US standard of living is going down several notches, ever visit a 3rd world country. They suck azz.
Yes and protectionism retards growth over the long run. It does not encourage it because it increase production in inefficent areas. The gold standard is ok but it should not be the currency in the US. There should be no monopoly in currcency. US should be whatever its citizens can produce compared to others. It cannot get a free ride like you seem to think with protectionism.
Protectionism will make the nation poorer in the long run because other nations that do not have it will specialize in what they are good at prouducing.
Its got to be fair trade too, if you accept goods made by slave labor you're undermining your own market. What choice does an American have if he wants to buy made in the USA.
He doesn't worry about price if he's prosperous himself.
Industry made the USA was it was, the sleeping dragon.
Free trade has killed the dragon in his sleep. Its surreal to witness, not much pride when your country doesn't make stuff.
Notice how Denis waves out the national security talking points line to advance his retarded policy. Anytime one invokes "national security" they usually do not have accual reasons/ evidence to support their proposals.
Yea.. well when people find out that ET's are our ancestors there will be no more need for bailouts or struggling to save a broken economy... we an move into an Age of Enlightenment
I prefer to call it taking care of the folks at home.
China has sent over toys covered with lead paint. You want to support a country that wants to do your children in.
What's the US borrowing Trillions of dollars from a communist nation ? What's wrong with made in the USA, at least they won't poison the children on purpose.
Put forward any label you want. It is still tribalism. You are threatening pointing a gun at anyone that trades with the Chinese because a few of the companies sent over lead paint (and China executed their health inspector). Whoever can make the product people want at the cheapest price with low externalities is who should win out.
What you are advocating will increase the cost of American buyers. I am not for the banking monopolies protected by both the Chinese and US governments. China is not a communist nation but is more state capitalist like the US. I support neither state since they are both coercive.
Except it should not be made in the US if it can be made better somewhere else and people want it over the made in US. If protectionism was economically sound why not protect your state or your city from "losing jobs" to another business outside of the state or city? Why not be consistent if it works? The reason is because it is economically retarded.
You will be making people pay more for products that could be produced by another more cheaply which means they have less to spend on other items they need/want and/or to save. That is no way to fix an economic depression. Dennis is nothing short of an economic charlatan/presit in this video.
He addresses none of the problems (land monopolies ie land not tied to labor, patents ie idea monopoly, tariff ie protecting domestic business at the expense of foreign producers and domestic buyers, banking monopolies ie forcing a specific currency over a given area etc) and gives terrible policies.
The average american needs to accually address the problems of the system which includes the four monopolies of land, patent, tariff/corporate charter/corporate subside, and currency. Then they need to specialize in what they are good at doing compared to others. Drugs should be legal and Nixon has nothing to do with this.
How about following the US Constitution - "Law of the Land".
Nixon (a war criminal, and crook) was pardoned. He should have been shot and or hung.
World Reserve currency as pure fiat ? Not one world leader insisted on gold backing right, that means THEY ALL ARE IN ON FLEECING THE SHEOPLE. Its a hundred year agenda of subversion. They took out JFK just for introducing hard currency into the system. The Fed doesn't like competition.
There should be no monopoly of law over land not tied to labor. Nixon was a criminal but that has nothing to do with how protectionism is economically retarted. I am not for nation state currency monopolies so I am sure as hell not for a one world currency monopoly.
"I am sure as hell not for a one world currency monopoly".
What do ya think the fckers in power are going to be offering us peasants when the US dollar goes to zero.
Gordon Brown sold half the UK's gold reserves at bottom of the market, there hasn't been an audit on Fort Knox since 1950. I wish I was more flexible so I could kiss my azz good-bye. The Fed is designed to fail and take out the whole fiat money system.
What does this have to do with what we are dicussing? I oppose all of this. You are shifting the goal post. I do not support any governmental state because they are aggressive violent monopolies of certain services over land not tied to labor.
Boots why are you repeating this? Like I said I do not support fiat currency. You are not addressing my points on how protectionism is not economically sound. Why not have protectionism for cities and states if it leads to wealth creation? What stop at a nation. Also, money can be backed up by anything. It doesn't have to be gold or silver. There is no inherent value to gold or silver.
Protectionism ensures the free people's market is sound.
If you don't protect the market the middle class gets wiped out.
Its taken the free trade deals to do this. USA is exactly where 1923 Germany is. Industry out (Free Trade) pump trillions in Bailouts, Wars, Welfare, Gov. Spending
Its a disaster beyond measurement what's coming down.
Gold , Silver is so you turn in the paper for the metal when the g-idiots start counterfeiting. Happened in 1971, Nixon had to close, US paper for gold.
Boot you have not answered my question. If blocking off other productive markets creates wealth why not do it at the city/state level? Protectionism leads to higher prices to the vast majority who purchase the good and only helps a few workers and businesses. It is corporate welfare. Bailouts is not f ree trade and neither is war (a government monopoly) welfare or state spending.
Gold and Silver have no inherent value. They are just one way a currency can be backed. There are many other ways. No currency should have a monopoly over land not tied to labor.
You don't understand what I am saying. Gold and silver have no inherent value. It is a human created value. Any other human created value can be used to back currency. There is nothing magically about gold or silver. There should be competting currencies. There should not be a state granted banking monopoly on currency like their is now.
Gold and Silver , in the last 6,000 years can you point out when the value of gold and silver went to 0. Paper money backed by nothing (fiat - faith in government) has gone to 0 many times. Isn't our time on the planet worth gold and silver instead of a paper promise. People making a min wage paid in gold at least would have shelter and food.
Look whats happening now, who wants to work for paper that doesn't buy anything. Sound Money or 3rd world living, your choice.
You idiot listen to me. I already said I was against fiat currency. I am just saying gold and silver is not the only item one can use to back currency. You can use any item. There is nothing magically about gold or silver. I am for competting currencies.
Gold and Silver is the best (6,000 years of testing), I agree when the Zimbabwe dollar imploded they were using gas ration coupons. Gold and Silver is civilized , you want to get into barter (looks like we peasants aren't going to get much of choice) anything of value will do. What would you suggest ?
I'm all for competing currencies also, anything that isn't backed by a "promise to pay". You don't know how toast we are do you ? You think there's hope the peasants on the planet are doomed.
What would probably be a good way to go, is have individuals run bio mass operations, and then use methane and precursors to base currency upon. It can be stored as a gas underground, and would always be worth as much as keeping warm and getting from point to point would be worth. Plus it is clean energy to boot and is far more usable than any other fuel, because of modern technology. Plus people could generate clean electricity at home and save the heat for later use.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"Gold and Silver have no inherent value."
lololololololol ohhhhhh lolololol my golly thanks for the laugh friend.
gold is resistant to corrosion, malleable, ductile, dense, with very low melting point.
works of art. NASA space helmets.
in fact,
"The unique properties of gold at the nanoscale lead to its use in a growing number of applications including colloids for biomedical marking and catalysts in chemical processing and pollution control."
That is not what the gold is used for when it is stored to back currency. I mean their is no inhernt worth to gold when it comes to backing a currency.
you are confused. those properties are precisely the reason gold was chosen as money in the marketplace. don't be a silly moron. people didn't choose gold and silver by throwing darts at the periodic table. these elements were chosen because they have unique characteristics making them ideally suited to be money.
Of course not but there still is no inhernt value in the items. It is just a value humans placed on the items. Most people do not use gold or silver for some of the reasons you stated earlier. What they really want is a means of exchange. Pretty much any item can be used. The important part is that money supply is managed well. When there are competing currencies and when one is managed badly people can transfer to another one.
you are very wrong. of course, it is a given that people make different personal value judgments.
but, unlike imaginary fiat credits from the Federal Reserve, precious metals DO have inherent value. They are real things with real properties that can be used to accomplish real tasks, create real products, and perform real services. such is the definition of inherent value.
I trust Mother Nature to manage my money supply. Not Greenspan, Bernanke, the King, the Emperor, or any other mortal.
Because you don't want to hurt your own domestic market, that would be silly. What product can't the US people make for themselves ? Protecting the domestic market means you care about the citizens. All free trade does is transfer wealth from the middle class to the wealthy. What a disaster, what are those middle class people going to do for work ? Fast Food or Fast Drugs, idle hands are the devil's workshop. Its Made in the USA first (to protect the middle class).
But a city is a domestic market. So you admit that protectionism for local economies damages the market for the city. Doing it at the national level does as well because you make your citizens PAY HIGHER PRICES for that product that could be produced elsewhere cheaper. Now the more productive US citizens have less to spend and save due to the irrational policies of protectionism.
Protectionism means you hate the citizens. You want them to pay higher prices for monopolized US products at their expense and at the benefit of a few businesses and workers. Free trade allows people to specialize in what they are good at producing instead of taking from others against their consent. Protectionism helps the domestic rich at the expense of the mass buyers in a given area.
they took the money and shipped american jobs abroad anyway.
this was just another joke played at the expense of the american people.

He has his own bill introduced (HR 2424). It's similar, but some say weaker than Mr. Paul's bill. This might have been a test to see who could get more support since they're from different parties. The result would be a more effective use of GM's resources without government intervention and control.
medliberty 2 years ago
Gotta love (hate) Fox News, they never miss an opportunity to throw in a partisan loaded question, specifically the last one where the host says, talking about some of the bailouts,"...Isn't this proof positive that government intervention in the markets doesn't work?" Nice catch-all phrase there. Remember that deregulation (less intervention in the markets by the government) is ONE of the causes of this mess in the first place. What we need is a responsible balance.

Rich folks keep poisoning the well.

smartgirl63 2 years ago

In fact, you could make the argument that what we actually need is greater government intervention to limit bonuses and not allow for the outsourcing of American jobs.
smartgirl63 2 years ago
Yes because a monopoly (the state) will create great results. The government is part of the involuntary hierarchy that protects monopolies in land, money, ideas, and production. Protectionism is economic tribalism. It leads to higher prices and protects unproductive jobs compared to tother producers.
overmind25 2 years ago
I never argued that the government should have a monopoly. We should only take over the failing companies that we are giving money to anyway. This would leave other car companies and banks to create competition. These car manufacturing jobs are only "unproductive" as you called them because the workers here are being paid a living wage unlike in other countries. What we are in now is a race to the bottom.
smartgirl63 2 years ago
Need does not equal production. I am not saying workers are not abused in the system but the government taking them over is not solving the problem. We should not bail any of them out.
overmind25 2 years ago
The government should not intervene anywhere in the economy. We should address the theft of the four monopolies land, money, patent, and tariff instead of advoacting more theft. Those workers should form their own factories. They are not entilled to a guarnteed wage. The government does not have economic magic powers. There is no free lunch. It is has to steal to prop up someone else.
overmind25 2 years ago
The problem is that the large companies are already stealing from the workers by keeping the profits from surplus labor. I do believe that Everyone is entitled to a living wage. It sounds as though we might just have different values. You seem to value economic freedom and efficiency, while I value equality and helping those in need. I am curious though, what do you mean by "We should address the theft of the four monopolies land, money, patent, and tariff"?
smartgirl63 2 years ago
The companies are illegitimate because they got a charter from the state known as a corporate charter. I just value freedom. From there people can make their own values and form communities with others. No political system should be forced on another. But ignoring that important point about GM being a corporate charter, the workers are not entitled to the means of production unless they form the facts themselves.
overmind25 2 years ago
I meant that we should go after the involuntary actions done by businesses with government that hurt workers and others instead of advocating more theft, land not tied to labor, Money ie means of exchange monopolized over a given area, patent ie monopolizing an idea, and tariff/corporate charter/subsidies.

All spelled out in the US constitution.
boots920 2 years ago
If China has the manpower and the best production capacity with low externalieis like polution then they should produce those items. You have done nothing to address how protectionism does not solve the problems. Those workers should go into the services industry or another industry which they specialize in compared to others. Sound money is a good idea protectionism is retarded and leads to higher prices and mal investment.
overmind25 2 years ago
Mal Investment , not if your on a gold standard. Right now people would be turning their paper into gold and it would stop the government in its tracks.
Protectionism is to protect the standard of living of the US citizens. Let China deal with their mob, US citizens should be #1, not #0. The US standard of living is going down several notches, ever visit a 3rd world country. They suck azz.
boots920 2 years ago
Yes and protectionism retards growth over the long run. It does not encourage it because it increase production in inefficent areas. The gold standard is ok but it should not be the currency in the US. There should be no monopoly in currcency. US should be whatever its citizens can produce compared to others. It cannot get a free ride like you seem to think with protectionism.
overmind25 2 years ago
Protectionism will make the nation poorer in the long run because other nations that do not have it will specialize in what they are good at prouducing.
overmind25 2 years ago

Except it should not be made in the US if it can be made better somewhere else and people want it over the made in US. If protectionism was economically sound why not protect your state or your city from "losing jobs" to another business outside of the state or city? Why not be consistent if it works? The reason is because it is economically retarded.
overmind25 2 years ago
You will be making people pay more for products that could be produced by another more cheaply which means they have less to spend on other items they need/want and/or to save. That is no way to fix an economic depression. Dennis is nothing short of an economic charlatan/presit in this video.

He addresses none of the problems (land monopolies ie land not tied to labor, patents ie idea monopoly, tariff ie protecting domestic business at the expense of foreign producers and domestic buyers, banking monopolies ie forcing a specific currency over a given area etc) and gives terrible policies.

What's a average american citizen suppose to do for work, flip burgers or sell drugs on the street corner.
1971, Nixon closed the gold window but said "No big deal as long as the American people keep buying made in the USA.
Now look at industry in the states , its been purposely destroyed.
boots920 2 years ago
The average american needs to accually address the problems of the system which includes the four monopolies of land, patent, tariff/corporate charter/corporate subside, and currency. Then they need to specialize in what they are good at doing compared to others. Drugs should be legal and Nixon has nothing to do with this.
overmind25 2 years ago
How about following the US Constitution - "Law of the Land".
Nixon (a war criminal, and crook) was pardoned. He should have been shot and or hung.
World Reserve currency as pure fiat ? Not one world leader insisted on gold backing right, that means THEY ALL ARE IN ON FLEECING THE SHEOPLE. Its a hundred year agenda of subversion. They took out JFK just for introducing hard currency into the system. The Fed doesn't like competition.
boots920 2 years ago

The Fed is designed to fail and take out the whole fiat money system.
boots920 2 years ago
What does this have to do with what we are dicussing? I oppose all of this. You are shifting the goal post. I do not support any governmental state because they are aggressive violent monopolies of certain services over land not tied to labor.
overmind25 2 years ago
Goal Post for Government (Control)
Goal Post for Free People (Liberty)
Fiat Money (US Fed Note = Control)
Sound Money (Gold, Silver) it can't be counterfeited into oblivion, like they're doing right now.
boots920 2 years ago
Boots why are you repeating this? Like I said I do not support fiat currency. You are not addressing my points on how protectionism is not economically sound. Why not have protectionism for cities and states if it leads to wealth creation? What stop at a nation. Also, money can be backed up by anything. It doesn't have to be gold or silver. There is no inherent value to gold or silver.
overmind25 2 years ago
Protectionism ensures the free people's market is sound.
If you don't protect the market the middle class gets wiped out.
Its taken the free trade deals to do this. USA is exactly where 1923 Germany is. Industry out (Free Trade) pump trillions in Bailouts, Wars, Welfare, Gov. Spending
Its a disaster beyond measurement what's coming down.
Gold , Silver is so you turn in the paper for the metal when the g-idiots start counterfeiting. Happened in 1971, Nixon had to close, US paper for gold.
boots920 2 years ago
Boot you have not answered my question. If blocking off other productive markets creates wealth why not do it at the city/state level? Protectionism leads to higher prices to the vast majority who purchase the good and only helps a few workers and businesses. It is corporate welfare. Bailouts is not f ree trade and neither is war (a government monopoly) welfare or state spending.
overmind25 2 years ago
Gold and Silver have no inherent value. They are just one way a currency can be backed. There are many other ways. No currency should have a monopoly over land not tied to labor.
overmind25 2 years ago
Gold is cool, silver is way more cool. Investment, (coins, industrial and medical properties).
No inherent value ?
Ever see a $20 gold piece , its a piece of art. Its in the US constitution, gold silver only no bills of credit (fiat money).
Pretty basic stuff, now ask yourself why the US has a central bank counterfeiting YOUR savings into oblivion.
Gold , Silver Standard - keeps the G-idiots in line, how many people understand what's going on right now. Maybe 5% of world population.
boots920 2 years ago
You don't understand what I am saying. Gold and silver have no inherent value. It is a human created value. Any other human created value can be used to back currency. There is nothing magically about gold or silver. There should be competting currencies. There should not be a state granted banking monopoly on currency like their is now.
overmind25 2 years ago
Gold and Silver , in the last 6,000 years can you point out when the value of gold and silver went to 0. Paper money backed by nothing (fiat - faith in government) has gone to 0 many times. Isn't our time on the planet worth gold and silver instead of a paper promise. People making a min wage paid in gold at least would have shelter and food.
Look whats happening now, who wants to work for paper that doesn't buy anything. Sound Money or 3rd world living, your choice.
boots920 2 years ago
You idiot listen to me. I already said I was against fiat currency. I am just saying gold and silver is not the only item one can use to back currency. You can use any item. There is nothing magically about gold or silver. I am for competting currencies.
overmind25 2 years ago
Gold and Silver is the best (6,000 years of testing), I agree when the Zimbabwe dollar imploded they were using gas ration coupons. Gold and Silver is civilized , you want to get into barter (looks like we peasants aren't going to get much of choice) anything of value will do. What would you suggest ?
I'm all for competing currencies also, anything that isn't backed by a "promise to pay". You don't know how toast we are do you ? You think there's hope the peasants on the planet are doomed.
boots920 2 years ago
What would probably be a good way to go, is have individuals run bio mass operations, and then use methane and precursors to base currency upon. It can be stored as a gas underground, and would always be worth as much as keeping warm and getting from point to point would be worth. Plus it is clean energy to boot and is far more usable than any other fuel, because of modern technology. Plus people could generate clean electricity at home and save the heat for later use.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
"Gold and Silver have no inherent value."
lololololololol ohhhhhh lolololol my golly thanks for the laugh friend.
gold is resistant to corrosion, malleable, ductile, dense, with very low melting point.
works of art. NASA space helmets.
in fact,
"The unique properties of gold at the nanoscale lead to its use in a growing number of applications including colloids for biomedical marking and catalysts in chemical processing and pollution control."
Now imaginary credits on the other hand...
zamiman 2 years ago
That is not what the gold is used for when it is stored to back currency. I mean their is no inhernt worth to gold when it comes to backing a currency.
overmind25 2 years ago
you are confused. those properties are precisely the reason gold was chosen as money in the marketplace. don't be a silly moron. people didn't choose gold and silver by throwing darts at the periodic table. these elements were chosen because they have unique characteristics making them ideally suited to be money.
zamiman 2 years ago
Of course not but there still is no inhernt value in the items. It is just a value humans placed on the items. Most people do not use gold or silver for some of the reasons you stated earlier. What they really want is a means of exchange. Pretty much any item can be used. The important part is that money supply is managed well. When there are competing currencies and when one is managed badly people can transfer to another one.
overmind25 2 years ago
you are very wrong. of course, it is a given that people make different personal value judgments.
but, unlike imaginary fiat credits from the Federal Reserve, precious metals DO have inherent value.

Its Made in the USA first (to protect the middle class).
boots920 2 years ago
But a city is a domestic market. So you admit that protectionism for local economies damages the market for the city. Doing it at the national level does as well because you make your citizens PAY HIGHER PRICES for that product that could be produced elsewhere cheaper. Now the more productive US citizens have less to spend and save due to the irrational policies of protectionism.
overmind25 2 years ago
Protectionism means you hate the citizens. You want them to pay higher prices for monopolized US products at their expense and at the benefit of a few businesses and workers. Free trade allows people to specialize in what they are good at producing instead of taking from others against their consent. Protectionism helps the domestic rich at the expense of the mass buyers in a given area.
overmind25 2 years ago
Ron Paul knows about this why don't you? He is not for protectionism because he knows it is economically retarded.
